inspiration where artists and emerging talents create extraordinary work and where young
people can grow creatively as individuals. We believe in the power of creativity to change

By giving young people aged 11-25 the chance to engage with the arts through music, new
media and performance projects, we inspire them to reach further, dream bigger, and
achieve more.

Working under the Programmes Director and in close collaboration with the Artistic Director
this role is key to the development of our artistic programme. The role will have a direct
impact on our offer to young people, as well our artistic vision and commercial viability.

MAIN PURPOSE OF POSITION


To lead the performing arts team, working strategically and commercially to develop,
programme and produce an agenda setting artistic offer that reflects the world about us; a
programme that is interesting and engaging across a range of performing arts productions
and commissions and that takes place in the Roundhouse spaces and for touring, as agreed
with the Artistic and Programmes Directors.

To support the performing arts team to develop a diverse, imaginative, engaging, high profile
and dynamic range of artistic programmes annually for and with 11-25s (both artists,
participants and audiences) and to ensure exceptional opportunities for young people to
participate and perform at all scales under the direction of the Programmes Director.
The Head of Performing arts is a member of the Senior Management Team and will be
expected to contribute at both a strategic and operational level.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Performing Arts Programme


To develop contacts with national and international artists, producers, promoters, directors
and other collaborators that contribute to the development of high profile, high quality artistic
productions for the main space and studio theatre

To lead the development and production of a dynamic and coherent range of work, as
agreed with the Artistic Director, and support the producing team to deliver the same

To ensure the artistic programme meets Roundhouse objectives around participation


opportunities for young people, maximising audience engagement, digital innovation and
diversity as agreed with Programmes Director

To work with the performing arts team to establish and develop strategic artistic
collaborations, partnerships and joint projects and develop long-term strategic relationships
with partners to extend our reach

To ensure exceptional opportunities for young people to participate and perform in all the
available Roundhouse spaces and to encourage and contract, where possible, artists
performing at the Roundhouse to work with young people

To act as lead producer on specifically identified productions and initiatives

To lead on the development of commercial distribution models for Roundhouse produced


work both nationally and internationally

To develop work with both associate and non-associate artists to develop productions for
Roundhouse spaces and beyond

To oversee the Street Circus Programme to ensure the development and growth of a
ground-breaking circus programme for young people that is integrated with the wider
Roundhouse circus offer

To oversee the production of detailed and accurate show information for the organisation, on
all performing arts events under the remit of the producing team

Administration and Finance


To lead, motivate and manage the performing arts team; to ensure that appropriate
management and administrative systems are in place for the efficient management of
department – recruitment, performance appraisal, Health & Safety, contracting, meetings etc.

To ensure the Performing arts team liaise with all Roundhouse departments to ensure
accurate information is distributed for the successful delivery of the performing arts
programme

To oversee the development and negotiation of production and commission agreements and
manage the contracts process to ensure that all performing arts events are contracted in a
timely fashion in order to maintain the best interests of the Roundhouse
To set appropriate financial targets, with the Programmes Director, and manage budgets in
order to achieve these.

Marketing and Communication


Work with the marketing team to deliver audiences and press coverage for all performing
arts related activity

To work with the Roundhouse’s Marketing and Press team on the delivery of marketing and
press campaigns for the performing arts programme.

To supply up to date information to the Marketing team for use on all marketing and press
materials.

To ensure the performing arts programme achieves a high profile through flagging up
potential creative campaign ideas to the Marketing department.

To ensure effective on sales through providing all necessary information to the Marketing
department in a timely fashion.

To monitor ticket sales and ensure that all holds are correct and released as necessary.

Fundraising
To work with the development team, to raise funding for the Roundhouse programmes from
the public sector, corporate sponsors, individuals and campaigns.

Support the development team with the completion of funding applications and all relevant
reports for Arts Council and other funders.

Evaluation
To lead on the evaluation of all programmes, projects for 11-25s, in conjunction with the
Head of Youth Policy & Engagement and the relevant programme managers.

General
To advocate for the 11-25s, Resident artists and community projects within the Roundhouse
and ensure both a good understanding, and clear integration into wider Roundhouse
processes and procedures, of all programmes

As a member of the Programmes team, play an active role in organisation-wide activities,


including attending and supporting Roundhouse events

To be committed to putting young people at the heart of everything we do

To promote and comply with current legislation and the Roundhouses policies on Equality,
Diversity and Health & Safety both in the delivery of services and the treatment of others

To promote, develop and comply with our policies and practices to lessen the environmental
impact of the Roundhouse

To be responsible for identifying and undertaking own training and personal development to
meet business needs
To undertake any other reasonable duties, commensurate with the level of the post so as to
ensure the smooth running of the Roundhouse.

This job information cannot be all encompassing. It is inevitable over time that the emphasis
of the job will change without changing the general character of the job or the level of duties
and responsibilities entailed. Consequently, this information will be periodically reviewed,
revised and updated in consultation with the post holder to reflect appropriate changes

Conditions

Hours 40 hours per week. This post may entail unsociable hours

Annual Leave The annual leave period runs from April to March and you will be
entitled to 25 days holiday per year plus Bank Holidays

Notice Period 3 months (after successful completion of the probationary period)
