Figure 1- 1 IS 1893: 2002 Response Spectrum

The Design Base Shear is given by

V b =Z /2×I /R×S a /g×W

Sa / g is the normalized Response Spectrum value for the structure which is the function of the fundamental
time period of vibration of the structure and the type of the founding soil.

W is the Seismic Weight of the building, which will be calculated in accordance with the relevant clause in
the IS1893: 2002.

Since the structure is a R.C.C. structure, a damping value of 5% will be considered.

Model analysis / Space frame analysis of the structure will be carried out using Response Spectrum
method

Assumptions:
Importance factor, I = 1.0
Response Reduction Factor, R = 5
Soil Type = Type I (Hard soil)

Wind loads

Wind loads will be calculated in accordance with IS 875: Part 3.

Design wind speed
V Z =V b ×k 1 ×k 2 ×k 3
For Tower

Vb Basic wind velocity = 47 m/s

k1 Risk coefficient for a design life of 50 years = 1.0

k2 Terrain category 3, class B for 10 m height = 1

k3 Topography factor = 1.0

Based on the above,

Design wind speed (VZ) = 47 m/s2

Design wind pressure Pz = 0.6 x Vz2

Wind force due to Gust effect

Necessary calculations for the Gust effect due to wind will be calculated as per IS 875 (part 3)-
1987.

When wind forces are resisted, then a 33 % increase in the allowable pile capacities will be
allowed.

Soil loads on retaining walls

For the purpose of design of retaining structures such as underground water tank, STP, retaining wall to
sustain level differences, the following parameters will be considered.

Assumed Soil Properties:

Angle of shearing resistance  = 30 degree
(considered for soil filling behind retaining wall)

Loads on soil
General Surcharge on the soil retained q = 15 KN./sq.m

Density of soil (dry) ∂ = 18 KN/cu.m

Density of soil (saturated) ‫ץ‬s = 20 KN/cu.m

Separation / Expansion Joints

Considering the size and configuration of the structure, separation/expansion joint are required and
planned for this structure.

Proposed Approach to Structural Analysis

The building will be predominantly planned with a structural system involving R.C.C slabs, beams, columns
having moment resistant frames as a RCC framed structure.

After preliminary sizing of various structural members, a computer model of the structural frame of the
building will be generated for carrying out computer analysis for the effects of vertical and lateral load that
are likely to be imposed on the structure.

The building structure will be analyzed ETABS software which is thoroughly tested, validated and
recognized internationally by several organizations and is well suited for the analysis of R.C.C building
systems.

The analysis problem will be modeled using geometrical dimensions, member properties and member-
node connectivity. The relevant eccentricities in member connectivity will also be modeled in the analysis
problem as may be necessary. Variation in material grades (since concrete of different grades being used)
will also be considered while modeling.

Wind load derivations will be carried out using coefficients / factors in accordance with the relevant codes.

The seismic loads will be derived from the results of analysis of the structure in accordance with the
Indian Code IS: 1893-2002.
The permissible values of the load factors and stresses will be utilized within the purview of the above-
mentioned Standards.

Analysis Method adopted for ETABS model

Floor geometry shall be developed for building as per final GA drawings.

Vertical members will be connected from floor to floor to assemble and complete the space frame.

Preliminary sectional properties will be assigned to all the structural elements.

Connection eccentricities will be introduced whenever necessary.

All columns will be treated as fixed at the foundation level.

The floor slabs will be modeled/ introduced as horizontal diaphragms using appropriate methods.

Appropriate torsion / moment releases will be given wherever required.

Appropriate grades of concrete as mentioned in the parameters in this report will be assigned.

Gravity loads (Dead load and Live load) will be applied to all the respective areas as per the location and
occupancy. Allowances in terms of Live-Load reductions as per no. of floors shall be duly considered strictly
in accordance with the codes.

Wind load analysis will be carried out using procedures mentioned in IS: 875 (Part-3).

Seismic analysis will be carried out independently using STATIC analysis procedures mentioned in IS
-1893:2002

The computer analysis will evaluate individual internal member forces, reactions at foundation level and
deflection pattern of the entire structure. It will also evaluate the deflection pattern of the individual
members.

This data generated using this analysis model, will then be used to verify adequacy of the member sizes
adopted and after further iterations arrive at the most appropriate reinforcement design of the structural
members. Some re-runs of the analysis program will be required for arriving at the optimum structural
space frame characteristics that satisfy the strength and stability criteria in all respects. The architects and
the services consultants will be duly informed of any schematic changes required to be carried out for
making the structural system fully compatible with the wind/earthquake codes, so that they can
accommodate the changes in the overall planning of the building.

Space frame analysis will be carried out for gravity loads, wind loads, seismic loads and all combinations
thereof.

2.6.Beam and Column Design
Reinforcement output from ETABS2016 and manual calculation for beam and columns are attached in
Annex.

2.7.Foundation Design
Based on bearing capacity of soil, foundation sizes and reinforcement were calculated in separate Excel
sheet, which is attached in Annex.

2.8.Slab Design
Slab design was prepared separately in MS-Excel and also checked with the SAFE 2014 result. Manual
design is attached in Annex.

3. Conclusion and Recommendation

Analysis and design of the public building was prepared based on IS Codes. For analysis and design ETABS
2016 software was used. Whenever was necessary to check ETABS result, manual calculations were also
performed. M25 grade of concrete and Fe500 grade rebar were used for analysis and design. Seismic
analysis and design was performed based on IS 1893: 2000 for concrete. For detailing of reinforcement SP
34 and Ductile Detailing Code IS 13920 were used. The building was designed to meet the required
performance level expected by of IS Code for residential building purpose.

We greatly recommend to use standard quality of construction materials and regular supervision during
construction by the qualified Engineer.

For welded sheeted roof trusses, self weight is given approximately by

Design of Foundation

Design Condition
Material Properties
Characteristic Strength of concrete, fck (adopt) = 25 MPa
Characteristic strength of rebars, fy (adopt) = 500 MPa
Allowable bearing pressure on soil = 125 kN/m2
Required depth of footing bottom below ground level = 1.5 m
Unit Weight of soil below backfill = 18 kN/m3

Column Base Plate

Column width as per design = 200 mm
A base plate of 500 x 500 x 25 mm shall be used.
Allowable bearing pressure on the pedestal = 2.25 N/mm2

Development Length of Anchor Bolts
Anchor bolts are placed at an offset of 60 mm from the face of column.
Then,
Total Tension in the anchor bolts = 96.97 kN
If a total
6 - 25 mm-φ bolts be used, then,
of
Tension in each bolt = 32.32 kN
Net area of a 25 mm-φ bolt = 368 mm2

Stress in steel in limit state of collapse = 131.70 N/mm2

So,
Development length required = 850 mm

Embed the anchor bolts 850 mm in the concrete.

Design of Pedestal
m shall be
pedestal 0.60 x 0.60 x 1.00
used.
