SECTION 3C PRE-CAST CONCRETE GRILLE

3C.1 Scope. This section includes pre-cast decorative grilles for wall, pre-
cast tubular frames and decorative grilles, complete.

3C.2 General . The work in this section shall be in accordance with the
applicable requirements of Section: Cast-In-Place Concrete and as specified herein.

3C.3 Materials . Materials shall be new, of quality and sizes specified or


shown on the drawings.

3C.3.1 Portland cement shall conform to PNS 07, type 1.

3C.3.2 Coarse Aggregates shall be crushed gravel approximately 10 mm in


diameter, conforming to PNS 18, type 2.

3C.3.3 Fine aggregates shall conform to PNS 18, type 2.

3C.3.4 Tubular frames shall be gauge 14 galvanized, sizes as shown.

3C.3.5 Reinforcement for decorative grille 20 mm and 16 mm square bars


shall be structural grade.

3C.3.6 Casting form work shall be 5-mm marine plywood, gauge 26 plain
sheets, plastic sheets or any suitable material to be formed to sizes as indicated.
Provide proper anchoring materials to ensure rigidity during pouring of concrete or
mortars. Use oil on all form works to achieve smooth finish.

3C.3.6 Cement Modifier shall be “Elastomark,” water white and of best


commercial standard.

3C.4 Installation

3C.4.1 Decorative pre-cast grille. Pre-cast grille shall be made from Class A
concrete conforming to Section: Cast-In-Place Concrete, using 10 mm nominal-size
coarse aggregate reinforced with no less than 20 mm bar and as specified herein.
Pre-cast grill shall be reinforced for full unit length. Splices in a grille unit will not
be permitted. In mixing the concrete use “Elastomark” Cement Modifier in lieu of
water to provide a strong concrete bond to steel. For wall ap plication weld 16 mm
bar by 100 mm for concrete column at tachment. Allow one end of pre-cast unit free
concrete for attachment to wall. For belfry application pre-casting of decora tive
units shall be done only after all welded joint connections have been completed.

3C.4.2 Pre-cast tabular frames. Pre-cast frames shall be made from mortar
cement; 1 part cement and 2 parts graded sand by weight. In mixing the mortar, use
“Elastomark” Cement Modifier in lieu of water to provide a strong mortar cement
bond to tubular steel frames. Tubular frames shall be gauge 14 galvanized, sizes as
indicated. All joint connections shall be fully welded, cleaned, free from oil and
greases prior to application of mortar.

3C.4.3 Pointing and cleaning. After removal of forms, all damaged portions
shall be pointed and repaired. Excess mortar shall be removed and care shall be
taken to prevent damage while on the curing period.
