CERTIFIED SAFETY PROFESSIONAL

CERTIFICATION
Awarded by the Board of Certified Safety
Professionals (BCSP), the Certified Safety
Professional (CSP) is an accredited safety
certification, recognized as the “Gold Standard”
for over 45 years. Most CSPs work at an executive
level to assess potential issues in safety,
health and environment.
This brochure provides a quick overview of the CSP
certification process. We encourage you to download

STEPS TO
BECOMING
A CSP

1 DETERMINE ELIGIBILITY
Education:
Will have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in any field or
an associate in safety, health, or the environment. The
associate degree must meet the requirements as outlined
at www.bcsp.org/CSP. Degrees have to be accredited by a
recognized accrediting body via the Council for Higher
Education Accreditation (CHEA) and/or the U.S.
Department of Education.

Work Experience:
Will have at least four years of work experience
where safety duties count at least 50% being preventative
at professional level with breadth
and depth of safety practice.

Qualifying Credential*:
Will hold one of the following credentials: ASP, GSP, CIH,
CMIOSH, CRSP, MISPN, SISO, NEBOSH National
or International Diploma in Occupational Health
and Safety, or a Diploma/Certificate in Industrial Safety, as
issued by the State Government Departments/Boards of
Technical Education, Government of India.
*Must meet all current CSP requirements.

2 APPLY ONLINE
Create an account by clicking on “My Profile” at
BCSP.ORG. Select “Apply for Certification” and follow
the instructions. After submitting your application,
BCSP will evaluate your application and notify you
if you are eligible to take the exam.
3 PURCHASE YOUR EXAM
Once you receive BCSP’s approval to move on to
the examination stage, you have one year of eligibility
to purchase the exam at BCSP.ORG and schedule
it with Pearson VUE. For more information on the
examination process, please download the Pearson
VUE brochure on the certification webpage under
“Examination Information.”

4 PASS THE EXAM


BCSP’s examinations are delivered at Pearson VUE’s
test centers located around the world. After you
receive a passing score, you will be awarded
the CSP certification.

5 MAINTAIN YOUR CERTIFICATION


To ensure continuous professional development,
BCSP requires CSPs to submit 25 recertification
points to demonstrate up-to-date competency every
five years. Please download the Recertification Guide
at BCSP.ORG/CSP for more details. You must also
pay an annual renewal fee.
