Finishing of Patterns

Patterns ready for production should contain all


the necessary information and symbols which helps in fabric cutting
and garment construction. Finishing of patterns means adding
these information and markings to the patterns.

Pattern Information on Industrial Blocks


• Style number
• Name of each piece
• Size of the pattern
• Number of pieces to be cut
• Symbols (Folding symbol etc.)
• Seam allowance
• Construction lines
• Grain lines
• Notches (Marks that are needed to help assemble garment
sections correctly).
• Direction of Fabrics (For fabrics which have designs in one
direction such as floral print, stripes etc.).

Pattern Symbols
These are some symbols used in patterns which
give information such a position for placing buttons, pleats etc,
cutting line , seam line etc.

BP Bust Point
SS Side Seam
SH Shoulder
CH W Chest Width
FL Full Length
WL Waist Length
Sl. L Sleeve Length
AH Arm Hole
X-B Across Back
X-F Across Front
X-SH Across Shoulder

Plkt Placket
CB L Center Back Length
CF L Centre Front Length
NK Neck
CLR Collar
SH L Shoulder Length
