Sled Dog Team
Dogs have been used to pull sleds through arctic climates for over a thousand years, especially
in Iceland and Alaska. Picking out a sled dog team is not just a matter of finding the most athletic dogs.
Each has a specific place on the team based on what it excels at.

The most important dogs on the team are the leader dogs. Placed at the front of the harness,
they respond to the musher’s commands. They also set the team’s pace. Lead dogs must be alert,
confident and intelligent.

The swing dogs are positioned directly behind the lead dogs. They direct the team around turns
and curves. Swing dogs possess the perfect mixture of speed, endurance and athleticism.

The wheel dogs are placed at the back of the formation. They are usually the largest of the dog’s
and have the strongest legs because they are the first to take on the weight of the load being pulled,
especially during the starts and climbs. Wheel dogs should also be even-tempered as they must
withstand the constant slamming of the sled runners behind them.

Choose no more than 3 words/or a number from the text for each answer.

Using Smartphones at Night
When you go to bed each night, do you take your smartphone with you? Most people do. It might
seem like perfect opportunity to check your email, play a little Candy Crush, view your friends’ activities
on social media or check the next day’s weather forecast.
A lot of research has been done on the effects of night-time phone use. Evidence from these

weight gain, depression and anxiety.
Thirdly, it can increase the risk of cancer. In addition to regulating your sleep cycle, melatonin is a
powerful antioxidant that your body needs to fight against cancer. When your melatonin levels are cut
off, your risk of cancer and other ailments increase.
Using your phone at night can pose a serious risk to health. So, you must take good care of your
health. Keep your phone at least one metre away from your body. The greater the distance, the weaker
the effects of electromagnetic radiation. If you use your phone as an alarm, you should place it further
away. This will force you to get up to turn the alarm off in the morning.
