A Detailed Lesson Plan in Science

Okay, class. Let's pack up and get ready for our next subject. For homework, I'd like you to review the key points we discussed about global warming. In particular, think about the causes and effects of global warming and ways we can help prevent further climate change. Being good stewards of our planet is so important. You all did a great job learning today.

A Detailed Lesson Plan in Science

I. Objectives

At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:

A. Identify the meaning of global warming and as to what causes it.

B. Learn how to protect the earth from global warming
C. Know the reasons why global warming is bad and why do we need to do something to
avoid it.

II. Subject Matter

Topic: Global Warming

Reference: https://www.slideshare.net/AbinoDavid/global-warming-14620613
Materials: visual aids, PowerPoint presentation
Values: Develop love for our Mother Earth.

III. Procedure

Teacher’s Activity Students’ Activity

A.

1. Greetings
Good Morning, Class! Good Morning, Ma’am!

2. Prayer
Before anything else, let us pray first. Let us all stand, close our eyes and bow our
Class President, kindly lead the heads.
prayer. ‘’Dear Lord and father of all. Thank you for
today. Thank you for ways in which you
provide for us, for you protection and love.
Guide us by your eternal light as we discover
more about the world around us. We ask all
this in the name of Jesus. Amen.’’

3. Checking of Attendance
Who is not present today? (Students will tell who is not present today.)

4. Classroom Management
Class, kindly align your chairs properly (Students align their chairs and then pick up
and pick up the pieces of paper under all the pieces of paper/trash)
it.

5. Review

Class, before we proceed to our lesson, let It was about Climate Change, ma’am!
us have a recapitulation of our past
lesson. Our past lesson was all about?

Alright, what is Climate Change? It is a change in the average conditions –

such as temperature and rainfall – in a
region over a long period of time.
Very good, class! Since you clearly
remembered our past lesson. Let us now
proceed to our topic for today.

B. NEW LESSON

Motivation

Okay so, I’m going to let you watch some Okay, ma’am!
video clips about ‘global warming’. Make
sure to watch it carefully because I’m
going to ask you some questions about it
regarding our lesson.

6. Lesson Proper

Our lesson for today is all about Global (Someone will recite and state what’s
Warming. Can someone tell me what his/her definition of global warming)
global warming is?

Clever mind! Okay class, global warming is

the unusually rapid increase in Earth’s
average surface temperature over the
past century primarily due to the
greenhouse gases released by people
burning fossil fuels.

Most of the observed temperature

increase is caused by increased
concentration of greenhouse gases.

Now, class do you have any idea on what (Students will raise their hand and tell their
are greenhouse gases? point about greenhouse gases.)
Very good, guys.

Greenhouse gases are gases contribute to

the greenhouse effect by absorbing
infrared radiation, for example, carbon
dioxide and chlorofluorocarbons.

Now, let’s move on to the causes of (Students will raise their hand to recite
Global Warming. Have you encountered about the causes of global warming)
this before? Can anyone give me some
causes of global warming?

Nicely done, you guys have a lot of prior

knowledge on this lesson.

These are the causes of global warming:

1. Emission of greenhouse gases like

carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous
oxide, etc. into the atmosphere.
2. The major source is carbon dioxide
(80%)
3. 20% by methane and nitrous oxide.

Now let’s talk about Carbon Dioxide

Can anyone tell me something about Ma’am, I know that Carbon Dioxide is the
CO2? reciprocal of Oxygen, we inhale oxygen and
we exhale Carbon Dioxide. And also, CO2 is
needed for photosynthesis and respiration.

Very good!

• The major source of carbon dioxide are

the power plants.
• Burning of fossil fuels for the purpose of
electricity generation.
• About twenty percent of carbon dioxide
emitted in the atmosphere comes from
burning of gasoline in the engines of the
vehicles.

(Teacher will explain further so that the

students will understand)

Now, let’s move on to Methane.

Anyone who has an idea about Methane? Ma’am, as far as I know, Methane is a
colorless and odorless gas that occurs
abundantly in nature and as a product of
certain human activities.
Wow, it seems that you guys researched a
lot about this topic. Very good!

• Methane is more than 20 times as

effectual as Carbon Dioxide entrapping
heat in the atmosphere.
• Methane is obtained from resources
such as rice paddies, bovine flatulence,
bacteria in bogs and fossil fuel
manufacture.

(Teacher will explain further)

And lastly, Nitrous Oxide.

Okay, what is Nitrous Oxide, anyone? Ma’am, I’ve watched a documentary about it
and I learned that it is commonly used for
sedation and pain relief, but is also used by
people to feel intoxicated or high.

Nice one! Very clever answer!

• The main sources of nitrous oxide

include nylon and nitric acid production,
cars with catalytic converters, the use of
fertilizers in agriculture and the burning of
organic matter.
(Teacher will explain further)

Is that clear, class? Yes, ma’am!

If there were causes of global warming, of

course there would be some
consequences to it. There are effects of
global warming.

1. It increases the average temperature

of the earth.
2. Alterations in the ecology, including
an increasing sea level and modifying
the quantity and pattern of rainfall.
3. Boost the occurrence and
concentration of severe climate
events, such as floods, famines, heat
waves, tornados, and twisters.
4. Glacier melting, lesser summer
stream flows, genus extinctions and
rise in the ranges of disease vectors.
5. Various new diseases have emerged.
6. The global warming is extending the
distribution of mosquitoes due to the
increase in humidity levels and their
frequent growth in warmer
atmosphere.
7. Effects the marine life.

There are also ways to reduce global

warming:

• Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

• Use less heat and air conditioning
• Change a light bulb by CFL
• Drive less and Drive smart
• Buy energy-efficient products
• Use less hot water
• Use the ‘off’ switch.
• Plant trees
• Encourage others to conserve.

Those are the things that prevents Global Okay, teacher!

Warming so class, you need to remember
all of those.

Valuing

What do you think might happen to our We might die, ma’am.

planet if we continue to release Carbon
Dioxide and other atmospheric gases?

Exactly! Now that we’ve learn the effects Ma’am, we just need to educate ourselves
of human activities towards our planet, As about it. Use alternative sources of energy
students, how can you help protect our such as wind and solar power. Use fuel
planet? efficient cars and compact fluorescent.

Wow, that’s very brilliant! Well said.

GENERALIZATION

Now class, let’s see if you remember (Student will tell their learnings on what is
something about our lesson. Again what is global warming, cause and effect of it, and
global warming? What are the causes and ways to prevent Global Warming.
effects of it? How are we going to prevent
it?

EVALUATION

Directions: Multiple Choice. Encircle the letter of the correct answer.

ASSIGNMENT

Before leaving the classroom, group them into 5 and ask them to make a play about Global Warming.
It’s their choice if it would just be cause and effect play, ways to prevent global warming or maybe they
can just put it all. The play should be 2 minutes long to be played next meeting.
