PINJORE GARDENS: A garden abandoned because of a strange
rumour situated in panchukula district of Haryana.
A brief story about the grand gardens in India established during the
ruling of babar(Mughal dynasty).He held samarkhand,also called
concept of Charbagh made a profound impression on him. Later he
created many gardens and one of the popular Ram bagh in agra was
by him.
After many centuries passed, fidai khan koka, the foster brother of
aurangazeb was appointed the governor of Punjab. Due to its
enchanting beauty and his artistic sensibility, he was lured to the hills
of the location .He visualised the potential of this location with
springs. He planned a terrace gardens amidst that the springs might
flow giving the feel of never ending music of its waterfalls and
fountains. There is an instance when 40 alamgiri maunds of roses
were sent from Pinjore gardens to make attar.This tradition was later
followed by Patiala maharajas. However the retreat of fidai khan
alarmed the neighbouring hill rajas “for they feared that they might
lose this precious water which irrigated the country”. They came up
with a rumour/idea/plan that the air and water there was spreading
goitre and they soon made fidai khan to vacate the region.
Later it fell into the hands of Patiala kings who developed and in the
19 century it became popular because of its location in the Ambala-
shimla route.
