2. Aims of hospital pharmacy inventory control


• Reduce costs and improve operational efficiency.
• Provide patients with the most appropriate medication when it is most needed.
• Ensure there is an adequate stock of medications and supplies.
• Increase the profitability of the hospital pharmacy.
• Minimization of the inventory investment.
• Determination of the right level of customer service.
• Balance of supply and demand.
• Minimization of procurement costs and carrying costs.
• Maintenance of an up-to-date inventory control system.

3. Roles of pharmacists in pharmacy management and control


• Responsible for procurement, distribution, and control of all pharmaceuticals
used within the institution.
• Management of personnel within the pharmacy department.
• Procure, distribute, and control medications and supervise support staff for
these activities.
• Maintain a list of names, address, and telephone numbers of drug
manufacturers, wholesalers, and their representatives.
• Prepare detailed specifications of drugs, chemicals, and biological.
• Prepare request for purchase forms.
• Identify quality and care issues that can strengthen the purchasing and
inventory control system.
