PLMCC, Jssate-Step, Noida 1 of 7

The document discusses the design methodology for 3D CAD modeling. It describes the basic steps of selecting a plane or reference element, creating a sketch, using sketch-based features to add or remove material, and then adding fillets, chamfers or other dress-up features. It emphasizes keeping the sketch and model simple, fully constraining sketches, and using symmetry, patterns and other techniques. The document also provides overviews of the design workbench, part design toolbar, specification tree, sketcher tools, and miscellaneous symbols used in 3D CAD modeling.

1.1 Design Methodology

Use default geometrical set
Select / Create PLANE or create reference element

Draw Sketch Introducing Sketcher

Using Sketched Based Features

Add or Remove material (Pad, Shaft, Rib, Loft)

NO
Finish

YES
Add Fillet / Chamfer etc. Go for Dress-up Features

Add Mirror / Pattern Using Transformation Features

Tip to be remembered
Don’t try to make the specification tree as short as possible.

Make sketch as simple as possible without any fillet/chamfer…

Ensure sketch is fully constrained after every modification

It’s not possible to draw a sketch on curved surface

Use geometrical sets to create skeleton, surface

Use symmetry of parts

Use patterns

Think well before starting modeling of a part
