I. Brief Description
The core unit of instructional design is a learning activity; it organizes a unit of time, in or
out of class, to address a subset of course learning outcomes. Learning activities vary
widely, from the delivery of knowledge (lecture) to the development of student learning skills
(problem solving). Activity design is most effective when it produces a guide for the instructor
that includes pre-planning, a plan for presentation and facilitation, and a plan for assessment
of the learning (Wasserman,2020).
The developed Learning activity sheets (LAS) in Science for Research I which caters
the special program of Science Technology and Engineering (STE) for grade nine learners
entitled Research I (Q2 – Lesson 8) Bibliographic Format intended for week 8 for quarter 2.
This LAS contains description of different Bibliographic Formats such as APA Style, Chicago
Citation Style and MLA Citation Style. Learning competencies and objectives are also
specified to help students understand what to expect after they complete the learning activity
sheets. Furthermore, the learning activity sheets provide research-based and MELC-based
tasks that students must perform on a specified schedule set by the teacher. In addition, the
learning activity sheet includes reflection activities to help them harness their learning as well
as tests to help them track their progress after they have completed the activity sheets.
Students may also use the given response keys to double-check their answers.
II. Background/Rationale
An activity sheet is commonly a piece of paper with questions or activities. Students
can either place their answers or perform the specific activity. In addition to that, the activity
sheet is also used to record the activities done by a person, a group of people, a family, or
an organization (Gacusan, 2020). The Learning Activity Sheets (LAS) for the upcoming
School Year 2020-2021 will be focused on the Most Important Learning Competencies
(MELC) issued by the Central Office, as part of the implementation of the new normal. While
waiting for the complete Alternative Delivery Modules to be released, the Division of
Mabalacat City, through the Office of Curriculum and Implementation Division (CID), adopted
the guidance given by the Department of Education in drafting the Learning Activity Sheet
(LAS) for the School Year 2020-2021. Learners can use the Learning Activity Sheet (LAS)
during their home learning sessions as part of the Modular Distance Learning Modality.

Learners can use the Learning Activity Sheet (LAS) during home learning sessions
under the Modular Distance Learning Modality. This learning resource materials aims at
achieving the following:
a. assess students’ knowledge Scientific Literature review and how to write it.
b. enhance understanding of concepts Scientific Literature review and explain the
importance of writing a good review of related literature through Learning Activity Sheets;
c. enhance students’ research writing skills;
d. encourage students to explore and learn on their own; and
e. assist/guide teachers in integrating engaging experiences into the teaching-learning
process.
III.Procedures
Phase 1 – Research (Analysis & Design)
Various printed and online references were gathered after the conceptualization of
making Learning Activity Sheet in Research I to have enough ideas about how to make
learning activity sheet for learners in grade 9 STE. Online strategic intervention content in
science was also viewed to get more ideas about how to construct engaging experiences.
STE teachers were also consulted to decide which tasks should be included in the LAS.
During the research process, it was established that the subject of Scientific
Literature Reviews and how to write them is covered in K to 12 curricula for Grade 9 STE, as
stated in the Department of Education's Most Important Learning Competencies for Special
Programs.
Searching for basic concepts in a learning activity sheet; defining learners' learning
styles; collecting online clip arts and photographs to be used; and gathering reference
resources such as books and journals were all part of this process.
The following were the procedures done in making the learning activity sheet:
Microsoft Word software was used in creating the design or template of the pages of the
LAS. Contents are mostly came from education websites such as
https://guides.lib.monash.edu and others. Since the student takes a more active part in the
exercises, they are considered active learning activities. Active learning activities provide
opportunities for students to practice skills and apply experience learned through didactic
activities in some cases. In other instances, they are opportunities to learn new things or
construct information that hasn't been discussed before.
The learning competencies were focused on the newly released Most Essential Learning
Competencies for Special Science Program (Research I), while the objectives were based
on the unpacked MELCs.
The activities are organized in order of difficulty. It adheres to the LAS's aims and tracks the
students' progress in completing the learning activity sheet. The exercises are intended to
help students develop their higher-order thinking skills as well as other science-related skills.
This section of the LAS aids in the intellectual comprehension as well as the retention of the
lesson by the students.
Since the response keys are given at the end of the learning activity sheet, students will be
able to check their own progress.
Results:
The Learning Activity Sheets for Research I entitled LEARNING ACTIVITY SHEET
Research I (Q2 – Lesson 8) Bibliographic Format was completely developed and undergone
quality assurance from the team. It followed the process as stipulated in the timeline given
by the Division. This developed LAS was used by the Grade 9 learners taking the Special
Science Programs in all Science and Technology and Engineering Schools in the Division of
Mabalacat City.
