The Lich Queen Solyana rules with an iron fist, crushing any who stand against her.

The elven wodes

were burned, the few survivors taking uneasy refuge in human cities. The dwarves have retreated
deeper into their mines, a dwindling population surviving on the meager crops they can grow without
sunlight. Most townships have surrendered, tearing down their churches and paying exorbitant tribute.

You are Knights of the Obsidian Tower, powerful warriors and mages charged with enforcing the
Queen's rule. You have total authority over the untitled peasantry, but you are expected to act with
dignity appropriate to your station. Your job is to ensure loyalty, not sow dissent.

There are rumors of conspiracy among the coastal villages, dissenters and cultists spreading treasonous
whispers. The queen has called upon you, four of her deadliest Knights, to travel from your domains,
find the traitors and make an example of them.

Buy In
You serve the Lich Queen. Did you join her to fulfill your own ambition? Are you a former hero
reanimated by dark magic? Do you truly believe that her cruel order is preferable to chaos?
Your character is evil. This adventure is about bad people doing bad things. That's not going to be
fun for everyone. Don't join this campaign just because it's an opportunity to play D&D.
Your character is a villain. You're not some random jerk, you're a high fantasy villain. Let’s see some
new twists on classic archetypes like the evil wizard, mad scientist, and fallen paladin.
Your character is still a character. You can be tropey, but you shouldn't be one-dimensional. What
motivates you to behave the way you do? Is your callousness the result of a hard life on the streets
or a privileged life above the rabble? Are you driven by emotion or by cold calculation?
Player conflict and PvP combat. We'll discuss what everyone's preferences are for PvP. My default
would be no petty antagonism or murdering people in their sleep, but a big betrayal or dramatic
showdown in the final session sounds sweet.
Player safety. We want this to be about fantastical villainy, not real-world horrors. I'll send out a
survey for people to fill out what things they would prefer not to see in the game. For example,
sexual violence will not appear in any capacity, including implications/backstory.

Mechanics
Characters are 9th level. Go wild with whatever subclasses, spells, and optional features you want.
Some munchkinry is fine, but it should be in service of your character concept.
Gear. Everyone will start with the following:

● Starting gear for your class and background.

● Any two objects worth up to 1500 GP. This could be plate mail, spell components like a
diamond or crystal ball, or even simple magic items like a +1 longsword.
● One unique magic item. Give me a description of the item in-universe and I'll design it.
● 250 GP to keep in reserve or spend on whatever.
