Digital technology has significantly impacted society in several areas: Business - ICT has lowered barriers to entry and dramatically increased productivity through tools like social media marketing. Jobs - Digital transformation is replacing some jobs but also creating new employment opportunities through technologies and online job platforms. Health - Digitalization presents both new health risks like technology overuse and benefits through electronic medical records and telehealth services. Education - ICT is changing education delivery globally by enhancing access to information and supporting open learning models that develop student autonomy.

1.

Discuss how digital technology change society in the area of:

a. Business = The impact of ICT on business is particularly significant. It empowers
people to share knowledge and advice instantaneously and set up an online shop or
website at a low cost, dramatically lowering the barriers to starting a business. As such,
ICT maturity is closely linked to economic growth. Businesses in today’s life have
promoted a lot with the coming of ICT. Its impact cannot be over emphasized. For
example, ICT helps to increase productivity in business with the use of social Media
platforms for marketing and promotion.
b. Job = The digital transformation has the potential to generate substantial changes in
the composition of the labor market as jobs that require certain skillsets are replaced by
a combination of technology and higher skilled labor, or even completely automated. At
the same time, digitalization yields opportunities by creating employment in new and
existing industries, with greater job-to-job mobility facilitated by online job search tools.
c. Health = Digitalization can affect people’s health status through the emergence of
new physical and mental health risks and through its impact on the health-care delivery
system. Health risks associated with the digital transformations include mental health
problems associated with the extreme use of digital technologies, especially among
children and teenagers and the crowding out of other activities such as physical
exercise. Health-care delivery is also affected by new digital technologies, such as
electronic records, new treatment options, telecare, and teleconsultation.
d. Lifestyle = Over the years, technology has revolutionized our world and daily lives.
Technology has created amazing tools and resources, putting useful information at our
fingertips. Modern technology has paved the way for multi-functional devices like the
smartwatch and the smartphone. Computers are increasingly faster, more portable, and
higher-powered than ever before. With all of these revolutions, technology has also
made our lives easier, faster, better, and more fun.
e. Entertainment = The technology has impacted entertainment in recent years. This
has happened so fast that the entertainment industry looks completely different from
what it was 20 years ago. We have been transported through time and now we live in a
world of technology. Television came to most of the US households in the 1950s and it
sent a wave of fire in the entertainment industry. It changed how people used to see or
experience entertainment. Kids could watch cartoons, cowboy shows, and the adults
could watch soap operas and entertainment news at night. After that, the cable TV was
established and now everyone was able to watch the show of their choice. Movies,
reality TV, sports channels, etc. made the life of people much easier.

f. Education = It is changing the way of the education delivery system in the world by
enhancing access to information for all. It also ensures effective and inclusive
education. ICT supports the concept of open learning where the thrust is upon
enhanced student access and the development of student autonomy.

2. Differentiate Technological Determinism and Social Constructivism. Elaborate

and give concrete examples.
=Technological determinism is a reductionist doctrine that a society’s technology
determines its cultural values, social structure, or history. It is the theory which strongly
believe that technology shapes the culture, values, social structures of a society. The
main reason why society progresses is because of the kind technology the society has.
Technological innovation is the cause of the social progress. The technology has the
control over the society - over human actions, culture and values. While the Social
construction of technology (also referred to as SCOT) is a theory within the field of
Science and Technology Studies (or Technology and society). Advocates of SCOT that
is, social constructivists argue that technology does not determine human action, but
that rather, human action shapes technology. They also argue that the ways in which a
technology is used cannot be understood without understanding how that technology is
embedded in its social context. SCOT is a response to technological determinism and is
sometimes known as technological constructivism.

3. Describe the process of technological change. How technological evolution

takes place?

= In economics, a technological change is an increase in the efficiency of a product or

process that results in an increase in output, without an increase in input. In other
words, someone invents or improves a product or process, which is then used to get a
bigger reward for the same amount of work. The telephone is an example of a product
that has undergone a technological change. It has undergone many different changes
over the years that have made it more efficient. Processes or products, such as the
telephone, move through technological change in three stages:

Invention - the creation of a new product or process

Innovation - the application of the invention for the first time

Diffusion - how fast others begin to adopt the innovation
