Introduction:
Boiling point evaluation refers to when the boiling point of a solution rises
above the boiling point of a pure solvent. The identity of the solvent and the
concentration of solute particles affects boiling point elevation, but not the
identity of the solute, which boiling point of a liquid affects its temperature,
atmospheric pressure, and vapor pressure. The amount that the boiling point
increases in the presence of solute can be calculated by using the boiling point
elevation constant and the molality of the solution.
With the given values of solution effects of boiling points on its varying
molality’s will be observed. Different apparatuses will be used in the laboratory
(e.g., beaker, thermometer, magnetic stirrer etc.) to perform the experiment and
in gathering the data. With the help of the data and solving it using the
mathematical approach the final results will be obtained.
Objective:
• This laboratory activity aims to study the variables involving the boiling
point evaluation of a solution.
• To assess density of water, volume of water, mass of water, B pt water, Kb
water, mass solute through measuring and observation.
• To evaluate the values of b pt soln, ∆Tb, m, MM of solute using a
mathematical approach.
