A DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN TEACHING SCIENCE IN ELEMENTARY GRADES

DIFFERENT KINDS OF LANDFORMS

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson the leraners expected to:
a. Identify the all kinds of landforms.
b. Illustrate the different kinds of landforms.
c. Appreciate the importance of different kinds of landforms.

II. Subject Matter

Topic : Different kinds of Landforms
Materials : Power point presentation, pictures
Reference : https://examples.yourdictionary.com/examples-of-
landforms.html

III. Procedure

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

A. Preparation
a. Opening Prayer
The teacher will start the class with a
prayer.

b. Checking of attendance
Is there any absent today?
Good Morning Sir.
Good morning class!

Before we start our lesson kindly pick up

the pieces of paper under your chair and
throw it in the proper trash bin. The learners will follow the instruction.

B. Motivation

The teacher will show pictures to the .

class and in return the learners are going
to try guessing what the picture
represents. (The learners will observe and answer)
Class, what can you see in this picture?

Very good!

C. Presentation
Landforms - are natural physical
features of the Earth's surface. As an
element of topography, a landform is
defined by its shape, location and how it
was formed.
Mountains and hills
So class who can give me an example of
landform? Anyone? Yes, ms. ____

Great! Mountains and hills is kind of Desert and Volcano

landform. Last one who can give an
example? Yes Mr. ______

Yes, Desert and Volcano is one of the

kind of landform.

Mountain - are major landforms with higher

elevation than the land around them. They have
steep slopes and a summit, which is the highest
point of elevation.
Mountains are formed when tectonic plates
collide and push land upwards over millions of
years, and shaped by wind and water erosion.
Other mountains are actually dormant volcanoes
that have not erupted in a very long time.

Mount fuji is one of the example of mountains,

it's has a 12,389 ft.

Hills - are smaller landforms than mountains, but

they share many of the same characteristics, Like
mountains.
Hills have a higher elevation than the land
around them, and are often formed by tectonic
activity and erosion. But hills are generally
smaller (elevation is typically under 3,000 ft.)
and not as steep as mountains. Foothills
Pen Hill (Somerset, England) - 1,001 ft

Plateaus - are raised areas of wide, flat terrain.

They are formed by volcanic activity and erosion,
like mountains, but don’t have a summit.

Armenian Highlands (Armenia) - 150,000 square

miles

Plains - are a major landform known for their

sea-level elevation and wide expanses. They are
found between mountain ranges and are usually
formed by erosion or deposits of water and lava.
The total amount of land covered by plains is
over 19 million square miles – more than one-
third of the total land surface area on Earth.

Australian Plains (Australia) - 2,966,200 square

miles.

Desert biome - are often known as “Aeolian

landforms” named for Aeolus, the Greek god of
wind. They are formed by either the erosive or
constructive action of the wind. As the wind
erodes the land it has the effect of sandblasting
the surface of rocks or other geological features.

Barchan - a convex-shaped sand dune with a

gentle slope up the side of the wind direction
and a 30-35 degree slip face that faces away
from the wind.
Canyon - is a narrow, deep, steep-walled, V-
shaped valley cut by a river through resistant
rock. Such valleys often occur in the upper
courses of rivers, where the stream has a strong,
swift current that digs its valley relatively rapidly.
Smaller valleys of similar appearance are called
gorges.

Valley - is a type of landform. A valley is a lower

part in the land, between two higher parts which
might be hills or mountains.

Volcano - is a landform created during an event

where lava comes out from the Earth's crust.
While volcanoes erupting, molten lava pushes
the ground upwards until it goes out of the
volcanoes vent. Continuous eruption leaves
layers of lava and makes the volcano higher or
wider.
Island - is any piece of subcontinental land that
is surrounded by water. Very small islands such
as emergent land features on atolls can be called
islets, skerries, cays or keys.

Cave - is a hollow space below the ground or

inside a mountain or other elevated landform.

Glacial landforms - created by the action of

glaciers. Most of today's glacial landforms were
created by the movement of large ice sheets
during the Quaternary glaciations

D. Activity
Identify the given picture below.

1.
2.

3.

4.

5.

E. Evaluation
Draw a kind of landform in your
notebook and explain why it is
important.

F. Assignment
Search the different kinds of water
forms.
