Lesson Plan 1 - Sentence Structure
I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, 70% of the students are expected to:
a. Identify the four kinds of sentence structure
b. Classify sentences according to structure
c. Construct sentences using simple, compound, complex, and compound-complex
sentences

A. Preliminary Activities
1. Prayer
2. Checking of Attendance
3. Review of past lesson
B. Lesson Proper
1. Preparation/Motivation
The teacher will show sentences to the students randomly, then
students will be asked to read the sentences.
Read the following sentences:
We went to the beach.
We were in Toronto when we went to the beach.
This is the new pen which I bought yesterday.
Later on, the teacher will ask the students to guess the topic for the meeting.
2. Presentation
The teacher will present the lesson “Kinds of sentences according to
structure”
3. Discussion
First, the teacher will define what is a clause and discuss about main
clause and subordinate clause with given examples. Then, the teacher will
introduce to the students the four types of sentences according to structure.
Each type will be defined and discuss along the corresponding examples.
Clause – group of words that can include subject and a verb

To sum up the discussion, the teacher will ask a question:

Divide the students into four groups. With the given sentences,
classify each according to sentence structure.
(Do this on a ¼ sheet of paper.)
1. I saw my friend.
2. Joe went to the store.
3. It was raining but I did not have any umbrella.
4. She got a good grade for she studied hard.
5. This is the new pen which I bought yesterday.
6. When I saw my daddy, I was very glad.
7. Jane was working and Annie was shopping when their mom
arrived.
8. Because I paid attention, I got an A on the test and I was very
happy.
6. Evaluation
A. Identify the types of clauses by underlining independent clause
one and dependent clause twice. Then indicate which type of
sentences each one is.

On a 1 whole sheet of paper, write an essay about your likes and
dislikes using the sentence structure.
