This specification describes Black Start Philosophy for Trains 6 and 7 for the RASGAS ONSHORE
EXPANSION PROJECT PHASE 2 (TRAIN 6&7 EPC).
No “black start” power generation or new emergency power generation system will be provided for
RasGas Train-6 & 7.
“Black Start” power required for starting the GTG’s in Train 6 and 7 will be supplied from the
RasGas grid utilizing the 132/34.5 kV step down transformer connection to the 33 kV buss in the
respective Main Substations (SS-04 or SS-05).
The connection between the RasGas grid and Substations SS-04 and SS-05 is always monitored
and controlled by the RasGas ELICS Power Management system.
Once Trains 6 and 7 GTG’s are started, they will be synchronized to the RasGas grid and begin
operation in a power sharing mode with the RasGas grid, monitoring and control is from the
RasGas ELICS.
Emergency power demands within Trains 6 and 7 have not been detailed to date, however it is
anticipated that these demands will not exceed 3 MW per Train.
This demand will be met by the installation of two 6.6 kV feeders (one for each Train) from
RasGas Train 5 Main Substation SS-03 to Trains 6 and 7, Main Substations SS-04 and SS-05.
The intended purpose of these two circuits are to supply emergency power for a safe and orderly
shutdown of the Frame 9 Turbines (for N2, C3 and MR Compressors), should the 33 kV
Switchboard in SS-04 and SS-05 not be available.
For the purpose of the RasGas Power Management System these circuit will not be considered as
supplying “normal Operating Power” to Trains 6 and 7.
Loading on these circuits will be accounted for in Substation SS-03, RasGas Train 5.
