202002-SW02L2 Y10 Transformations Practice Worksheet

The document describes different types of geometric transformations including reflections, rotations, translations, and enlargements. It provides examples of describing each type of transformation, noting that reflections require the equation of the mirror line, rotations require the angle and center of rotation, translations require the translation vector, and enlargements require the scale factor and center of enlargement. The document also includes practice problems asking the reader to fully describe the single transformation that maps one shape onto another.

Enlarge the shape: Enlarge the shape:
• by scale factor 2, and • by scale factor 2, and

Transformations – Part 3: Extra Practice
1. To describe a reflection,
reflection you give the equation of the mirror line.
Example: “Reflection in the line ! " #.”

In each of these examples, describe fully the single transformation that maps shape A onto shape B.

2. To describe a rotation,
otation you give the angle (and direction) of rotation and the
coordinates of the centre of rotation.
Example: “Rotation of 90° CW about '0,3*.”

Notes on direction:

• use CW/CCW to indicate clockwise/counter-clockwise direction.

• you do not need to indicate direction if the rotation is 180°.

In each of these examples, describe fully the single transformation that maps shape A onto shape B.

3. To describe a translation, you give the translation vector.

Example: “Translation by the vector . 0.”

Note: you may use “1 unit left and 3 units up” instead of . 0. However, in some cases you may be asked to

write down the translation vector.

In each of these examples, describe fully the single transformation that maps shape A onto shape B.
