GUIDE QUESTIONS for PHLEBOTOMIST/REGISTERED MEDICAL TECHNOLOGIST

JUNDEL: Hello, good evening everyone! Thank you for gracing us with your presence
today to our guest participant. We are indeed grateful to have you with us.  
FIEBREY: And so, before we start, let me introduce myself first. Hello, I am Fiebrey
Anne Barete, a 1st-year Bachelor of medical laboratory science student at San Pedro.
And with me are my classmates, …… Areanne, Jundel, metrix, dave, and steff. and we
are your interviewers for tonight. 
AREANNE: Also, before anything else, may we ask you to introduce yourself, ma’am?
Please state your name, age, profession/job, the year you graduated, school you
attended, and the institution you are currently working.
DAVE: All right. It is truly a pleasure to meet you po, ma’am Ohara! So, how are you
today po? How are you coping up with our current situation? 
STEFF: By the way, may we know what and how should we address you, ma’am? Are
you comfortable with ma’am Ohara? 
METRIX: okay, okay. Without further ado, shall we start with our interview proper? For
the first question – 
1. We see that you are a registered medical technologist. May we ask the reason
why you chose this path? What influenced you to get into this field?
2. How many years have you been working as an RMT? Can you enumerate the
clinical laboratory areas you have been assigned to already? 
3. Among those responsibilities, what specific arena did you enjoy the most?
4. (if he/she answered: Phlebo, ask why.) (otherwise, ask: HOW ABOUT
PHLEBOTOMY SECTION? How would you describe working in that area of the
laboratory? Can you state some advantages and disadvantages of working as a
phlebotomist? 
5. By the way, how was your experience on learning the craft of perfecting the
phlebotomy procedures (such as venipuncture)? Did you have a hard time
learning phlebotomy during your pre-baccalaureate days? 
6. Were there instances where you made mistakes while doing such services? How
and what have you learned from it?
7. In your perspective, what is the most stressful part about working as a
phlebotomist or in practicing phlebotomy?
8. How did you handle patients who are afraid of syringes, injections, and the sight
of blood?
9. Have you encountered a nervous or agitated patient? How did you deal with it?
How did you reassured or calmed him/her? How did you handle interacting with
such patients that have anger issues?
10. On a side note, did you have someone you do not go along with within your
workplace? How did you handle working with someone you often disagreed with?
11. Can you give some tips/practices on managing phlebotomy procedures for first-
timers like us? Any tips for students who are pursuing this program in the future?
What qualities do you think a medical technologist should have?
12. Last question, being an RMT indeed can be challenging at times. Most especially
with this trying time, we are dealing with a pandemic. Thus, how do you keep
yourself motivated?
