2.3.1 Benefits of Key dimensions of GCED in resolving climate change

Climate change is a serious global issue which is affected us and our environmental.
GCED is the part of UNESCO’s education to ensure all learner acquire the knowledge and
skills needed to promote sustainable development. There is a lot of benefits of these three key
conceptual dimensions of GCED in resolving climate change.

First of all, cognitive is one of the 3 key conceptual dimensions of GCED. The
cognitive concerns the learner gaining knowledge, understanding and critical thinking in local
or global issues. This means before we talk about an issue or making decision related to it, we
need the knowledge about it. Climate change, the issue that can wreak havoc on the world.
Cognitive education enable learner to addressing the climate issue and enabling informed
decision-making on this issue. And also, it empowers us to act, that is take action on it and
help us to solve the climate change issue. Moreover, it let us know the tools for learning and
research about the effect and causes of this issue. What we do not know is, that every
individual activity has also one of the causes for the greenhouse gas increases, thus
preventing us from doing the activity that affect climate. Avoid activities such as open
burning, reduce water waste and electricity use and etc. We can make a right decision for
reduce this problem when we are fully aware of this issue. Additionally, this makes the
learner gain critical thinking.

Next, the socio-emotional dimension is related to experiencing have a sense of


belonging to common humanity as well as developing attitudes of care and empathy for
others and the environment, learner recognize and appreciate different and multiple identities
and build values, soft skills to critically analyse, respect and social justice. This help to
instilled the above-mentioned sense in everyone. Thus, we will love our environment and
protect it from climate change. For an example, a lot of places are directly affected by this
climate change. Mostly indigenous community territories are affected. Nevertheless, they
play a main role in combating climate change (Nations, n.d.).

Thirdly, behavioural is consist of getting engaged and taking action in an issue at


local or global levels to bring out a more peaceful and sustainable world. It is our
responsibility as a child of this earth to prevent environmental issues. This makes us to
understand our responsibility and taking action on solving the climate change. Moreover,
behavioural empower learner need to take immediate action, rather than just watching our
Mother Earth being destroyed by this climate change.
