Through information and communication technology, while communication has become quicker and more convenient, it has also led to several disadvantages: 1) Loss of traditional communication skills as people prefer online interactions over in-person social activities. 2) Over-dependence on ICT as some people, especially children, may not know how to function without technologies and rely on them instead of other resources. 3) Internet addiction can cause increased isolation, social imbalance, and health issues from excessive screen time.

Through information and communication technology may have made communication

quicker, easier, and more convenient, it has also brought along a lot of disadvantages in our
daily life.

Loss of communication skills

Most parents are becoming more worried about their children, as they prefer to stay in the
room using all the gadgets rather than going outside and taking part in social activities. It
seems the traditional communication skills will be lost; instant messaging and emails have
replaced the old tradition of the handwritten letter. And although this is advantageous because
of time constraints, personal touch and sense of feeling are lost compared to taking time to sit
down and handwrite a letter. Now the world has omitted the world empathy and, comparison
and complain have taken over the hearts of the people. This concern is especially those who
often engage themselves in the websites because the communication and interactive skills are
not important with computers.

Over-dependence on ICT

A lot of people believe that computers and the internet have become such a regular part of
modern life, and some people particularly children who grow up with them, will not be able
to function without them. But they do not realize that the Internet is making them lazy, for
example when it comes to doing an essay or project research, they just perform google
searches instead of reading books in the library. Moreover, nowadays students no longer take
time to solve the equations and research topics, all they do is the query in google or on a
calculator and proof the answer. So, without these devices, they would not know how to
achieve the same results in the library or on paper.

Addiction

With the increased addiction to social networks and the internet games, people spend more
time on social gadgets and reject their normal life, which is resulting in increased isolation
and social imbalance. Research has shown that technology can cause many problems in a
person’s health. Many scientists, researchers, and doctors are worried about possible links
between technology and heart problems, eye strain, muscle problem, obesity and deafness.
And also, the waste emitted from the technology can pollute the environment, which makes
people ill.

Cybersecurity issues

We always share our information with all the sites in internet we are using without any
hesitation. We don't even have time to think that the data is being stored somewhere, and
without any second thought, we are sharing our personal information in there. And also, this
can be harmful if we are dealing with professional hackers, and the personal data of the
management, intellectual properties, bank records, vendor information, and many more the
hackers may distribute the company’s data to the internet or sell the data to the rival
companies or use the data to destroy the image of the companies.
