A Resistor R in Series With A Capacitance C Is Connected

This document contains information about four different circuit problems involving resistors, inductors, and capacitors connected in series AC circuits. The first problem gives component values and asks to calculate impedance, current, power, and power factor. The second problem provides voltage, current, power, and frequency and asks to calculate inductance. The third problem gives resistance, inductance, capacitance, voltage, and frequency values and asks to calculate impedance, current, and power consumed. The fourth problem provides voltage, current, power, frequency and asks to calculate resistance and capacitance. Formulas and calculations are shown for solving some of the problems.

A series circuit with R=10Ω , L=50mH and C= 100μF is supplied with 200V, 50Hz.

Find i)
the impedance ii) current iii) power and iv) power factor.

An inductive coil takes 10A and dissipates 1000W , when connected to a supply of 250V ,
50Hz. Calculate the inductance of the choke coil.

V= 250V, I = 10 A, P =1000 W, f = 50 HZ

A coil of resistance 8Ω and inductance 15mH is connected in series with a capacitor of

capacitance 150μF , across a supply of 200v, 50Hz. Calculate i) the impedance of the circuit
ii) the current and iii) power consumed

xl = 2*3.1444*50*15*10^-3=4.714 ohms

xc=1/2*3.14*50*150*10^-6= 21.22ohms

z= 8*8+(4.714^2-21.22^2)=18.34ohms

i = v/z =10.9A
P = VI COS 0

COS 0 = R/Z

=0.436
P = 200*10.9*(0.436)
= 950.50 Watt

125 volts at 60HZ is applied across a capacitance connected in series with a resistor. The
combination carries a current of 2.2A and causes power loss of 96.8W in the resistor. Power
loss is negligible in capacitor. Calculate resistance and capacitance

V=125v , f =60hz, i = 2.2 A , P =96.8 W

R =? C =?

Z = V/ I = 125/ 2.2 = 56.81 OHM

P = V I COS O
COS 0 =0.352
R = Z COS O
20 OHM
XC=53.17
