Dowel Calculation For Uplift - JP Nagar

The document calculates the tensile stress in dowel bolts due to an uplift force of 100 kN. It finds the stress of 12.5 MPa is less than the tensile strength of 410 MPa, so the dowels are safe. It also calculates the pressure in the concrete is less than 27.72 MPa and 32.34 MPa, so the dowels are safe for the pedestal and superstructure.

Dowels Check in Tension due to Uplift Force (ULS Case) :-

Total Uplift Force Acting = 100.00 kN

Tensile Stress in Bolts due to Uplift Force = 100.00 x 1000

Dld x Dll

= 100.00 x 1000
50 x 160

= 12.50 < 410.00 MPa (410 Mpa is Tensile Strength of E250)

Hence Safe

Dowels Dowel Size = Dia. ( Dld ) = 50 mm

For Pedestal
Length ( Dll ) = 160 mm

Pressure in Concrete < 27.72 Mpa

Vr,sd x 1000
Dld x Dll x n

= 19.34 < 27.72 MPa

Hence, Safe

iii Dowels Dowel Size = Dia. ( Dld ) = 50 mm

For Superstruture
Length ( Dll ) = 160 mm

Pressure in Concrete < 32.34 Mpa

Vr,sd x 1000
Dld x Dll x n

= 19.34 < 32.34 MPa

Hence, Safe
