STEP 1 (PREREQUISITES)
Ensure that your personal PC has virtualization support enabled for CPU:
1. Right click “Start” -> “Task Manager”
2. Select “Performance” tab and look for “Virtualization” option
3. In case virtualization is disabled please refer to your Laptop/Workstation manual for enabling
instructions.

STEP 2 (SET UP VIRTUALBOX)
1. Download the Oracle VM VirtualBox (https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads)

2. Install using default settings:

STEP 3 (OBTAIN WINDOWS 2016 IMAGE)
1. Download Windows Server 2016 evaluation image:
a. Access Windows 201Evaluation center - https://www.microsoft.com/en-
us/evalcenter/evaluate-windows-server-2016
b. Select “ISO” download type and proceed to evaluation form:

c. Fill in evaluation form and download ISO image:

STEP 4 (CREATE WINDOWS 2016 VM)


1. Open “Virtual Media Manager…” from the “Oracle VM VirtualBox” console:

2. Press “Optical disks tab”, click “Add” button and select downloaded ISO image:

3. Open Oracle VM VirtualBox console and select “Machine” -> “New…”:

4. Select “Expert mode”:

5. Fill in required fields for new VM:
a. VirtualBox-scoped logical VM name (1)
b. Folder for storing VM files (2)
c. Virtual Machine type and version (3 and 4)
d. Select Memory size depending on your PC capacity (at least 1024Mb) (5)
e. Select option “Create a virtual hard disk now” (6)
f. Click create (7)

6. In “Create Virtual Hard Disk” window :


a. Set the new virtual hard disk size (at least 50 GB) (1)
b. Select “VHD (Virtual Hard Disk)” hard disk type (2)
c. Select “Fixed size” storage on physical hard disk (3)

d. Click create (4)

7. Start the VM by clicking the “Start” button:

8. In the “Select start-up disk” window from the drop-down menu select the ISO image added in the
step 2 and press “Start”

9. At the first Windows Setup screen leave default values and press Next:

10. Press “Install Now” button:

11. On the next screen select “Windows Server 2016 Datacenter Evaluation (Desktop Experience)”
operation system and press “Next” button:

12. Accept the license terms and press Next:

13. On the next screen select “Custom: Install Windows only (advanced)” item:

14. On “Where do you want to install Windows” screen press “New” button (1), leave the size section
without changes and press “Apply” button (2):

15. Press “OK” button on the Information window:

16. After the disk is formatted select the Primary disk and press “Next” button:

17. After the Windows will be installed (the virtual machine could be rebooted) create a password for
Administrator and press Finish:

18. For log in to the system from the menu select “Input”->”Keyboard”->”Ctrl-Alt-Del”, type the
password from previous step and hit “Enter” key on the keyboard:

19. Enable Network discovery by pressing the “Yes” button:

20. To change Server name complete next steps:

a. In the “Server Manager” window select “Local Server” and click on the “Computer Name” (1
and 2)
b. Click “Change” button (3)
c. Replace the current Computer name with required one (4)
d. Click “OK” buttons (5 and 6)

21. To change Time Zone settings complete next steps:


a. Click on the time panel in the bottom right corner (1)
b. Press on the “Date&Time Settings” (2)
c. Select you Time Zone (3)
