CAPISTRANO, ALYSSA MAE M. BAPS 1-1

MODULE 2 ASSESSMENTS

1. What is mental health?

Answer: According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, mental health refers to the
state of being mentally and emotionally sound characterized by the absence of a
mental illness or disorder. It reflects being comfortable about oneself, positive
feelings about others, and having the ability to meet the demands of daily life.
According to the World Health Organization, this is the foundation for the well-
being and effective functioning of individuals. It is having the ability to think, learn,
and understand the emotions and reactions of someone towards other people
(World Health Organization, 2018).

2. Ask someone to share a story, experience, or circumstance in his/her life. It can

be about his/her family, studies, friends, or self. Afterwards, answer the following
questions.
a. How do you feel about the story you just heard? What was your first
reaction? How about as the story unfolded?
Answer: I felt sad hearing the story, especially being unconscious that this
person was going through all this while trying to act fine all along. At first, I
was really shocked, because I did not know that she was going through a
lot during that time.

b. What were your thoughts regarding the signs and symptoms of this mental
health issue? Have you experienced any of these yourself or in someone
you know?
Answer: These signs and symptoms were so common that it can be
mistaken to be just normal occurrences. I personally have experienced
most of these and I did not mind it much, because it is so expensive to
have a check-up, and I do not have the resources to get checked.

c. How would you react if you noticed these in someone you care about?
Answer: I would try to talk to this person and ask him/her and see if I can
help that person in any way. I want to make him/her feel that I am here,
and she/he can talk to me anytime.

d. How might acting benefit you and the person you care about?
Answer: I think it will benefit in a way that she/he can feel safe and secure
that she/he has a person they can entrust with these kinds of information.

MODULE 2 ASSESSMENTS

e. What actions can you take to help someone exhibiting these signs and
symptoms?
Answer: I believe that there should be interventions and maybe I can try
and talk them into getting themselves checked. I can also recommend
clinics that provide free emergency therapy as I have been in that situation
before.

f. What do you believe is important for anyone to be aware of if they know

someone with this mental health issue?
Answer: Everyone should be careful with the triggers that people around
them may have. It is important to be sensitive and one should not bring up
topics that may cause triggers to the person having a mental health issue.

g. What experiences have you had related to this story? What was similar?
What differed?
Answered: I think we really had similar signs and symptoms, but we had a
different coping mechanism.

3. With all the lessons you have learned from this module and stories you have
heard from your interview, enumerate the methods and strategies that you must
prioritize in keeping your mental health well and stable.
Answer: These are the things one must take note to have a stable mental health:
 Time-offs/breaks
 Having time for your hobbies
 Exercising
 Practicing communicating with other people
 Eating a well-balanced diet
 Having enough sleep
