1. Introduction
This procedure aims to establish the essential requirements and minimum standards of safety whilst
working at night & or extended hours. This procedure will be used in the development of specific
work method statements and associated job safety analysis for work scopes required during
working at night and or extended hours. It is also intended to operate according to (Project name)
emergency procedures, principles, standards and practices, and to comply with all company policies
and applicable government laws and regulations.
The (Project name) Working at Night Procedure is a formal written system devised to control work it
supports the commitment we have made in the Clients Commitment & Policy on Health, Security,
Safety, Environment and Social Performance of particular relevance are Clients commitments to;
2. Scope
This procedure covers all night work and or extended hours work to be carried out on the project
irrespectively of work areas. This procedure must be read in conjunction with the most recent
revision of the following procedures;
The document applies to the activities of all Hydro-C employees working for or on-behalf of (Project
name) Exceptions to applying this framework shall be in accordance with Procedure ‘Deviating from
HSSE Controlling Documents’.
3. Objectives
• Ensure the safety of personnel, property and environment.
• Identification of Hazards, controls & reduction of Risk to be As Low as Reasonably Practicable
(ALARP).
• Provide clear, concise, necessary trainings and effective understanding of Night Work and or
extended work hours.
• Ensure the workforce are fully aware of the conditions under which the work can proceed
• Appropriate authorization of designated work.
• Establish effective command and control over the work site with responsible supervisors aware of
all work to be done/under execution.
• Maintain documented records in case of investigations, claims or other legal & regulatory body
requirements.
• Periodic review of the this working at night procedure & the controls it contains for the purpose of
continuous improvement
4. Routine Night Work / Extended Hours

5.1. Authorization
All non-routine night work and extended work hours must be authorized in writing via an email from
either the Field Manager or the Asset HSE Manager. The request for night work should be done 24
hours’ prior work commencing. This will be controlled through the Permit to Work Process &
Procedure.
This authorization must include:
• Number of supervisors
• Number / name list of workforce
• Number of safety representatives
• Name of designated first aiders
This authorization must be communicated to the appropriate line manager, department & security
team other relevant members of the Project team and should only be given when it is not possible
to eliminate the need for night work by perform the task during normal working hours.
5.5.1. Drivers
The Iraq driving environment is classified as high risk. All driving hours will therefore comply with the

• Health & Safety of all personnel working on the permit (night work / extended hours)
• Toolbox talk is discussed with the work force assigned for night work
• Plan safety manpower in liaison with the Manager in Charge and senior site HSE representative.
• Notify the site HSE team of requirements needed for work at night / extended hours
• Ensure that safety personnel man-hours do not exceed the permitted hours as per Client policy.
• Ensure that the evacuation plan for night work and extended hours is in place and everybody
understands it.
• Assist the Manager in Charge with compiling the risk analysis for night work activities.
• Visit the plant with the Manager in Charge and audit the lighting for compliance to night work.
5.7. Health & Hygiene
• No person may work under the influence of alcohol or drugs (including prescription drugs)
• Food during work at night will be served in the mess hall and no food will be taken to work area
• The time of serving the food will be communicated to all persons by the onsite supervisor.
• Clean drinking water will be available on site and placed at rest shelters.
• Unless within a common illuminated area walking from work areas to the mess is strictly prohibited
and bus transport must be available to transport the people to and from the site and to the mess
halls.
• Toilet facilities must be fitted with light fittings and lights for night purposes and the entrances to
these premises must be clearly marked.
Adequate planning should be performed to mitigate the effects and maximise communication &
coordination with local stakeholders. Solutions that eliminate disturbances e.g. by finding an
alternative transportation route should be prioritized. If the disturbances cannot be eliminated the
manager in charge should;
• Consult with the Community Liaison Officers (CLO) at the planning stage of any night work activity
• Utilise the CLO the sole point of contact with local communities
• Provide local stakeholders / communities with adequate notice of potential disturbances
5.9. Emergency Response
Prior to any night work and extended hours activity during the planning stage the manager in charge
will;

This document should be periodically reviewed to ensure its ongoing relevance to the organization &
its environment. This should be completed at intervals no greater than every 1 year.
Part of the review process should be the inclusion of learnings from incidents. In the event that a
change is required prior to the next review the document owner publish an interim revision to the
procedure without full consultation if it is based upon the findings / recommendations of a relevant
investigation / review.
