NOTE :

· Do not use any test equipment that is overdue for calibration.


· Operator must observe proper E.S.D. precautions.

WARNING :

· Only qualified personnel are allowed to perform these tests.


· Do not use any test equipment that appears to have physical damage such as a broken/loose
wire or connector, burned appearance, unsecured components (loose screws or hardware), or
defective features.
· Only use the power receptacle and power cord with earth ground for all test equipment
involved, unless the procedure specifies differently.

WORK INSTRUCTIONS

Reference Material:

Applicable DR800 Series Instrument Manual (Ex. DR820, DR850, DR870, Palmlab,
etc.)
Hach Company Exchange Procedures for Private Labeled Instruments (doc # 19001-01)

1.0 REPAIR DETAILS:

1.1 Repairs are limited to replacement of the following components.

1. Top housing assembly 5. Bottom housing


2. Optics assembly 6. Cell cap
3. Battery holder 7. Detectors
4. Battery cover

1.2 Clean the instrument to improve the appearance and functional


operation.

1.3 If the instrument is under warranty and has a circuit board related
problem, replace the instrument at no charge.

1.4 If the instrument is not under warranty and has a circuit board related
problem, exchange the instrument at the fixed price.

1.5 After repairs are completed, checkout and testing shall be performed
and the results recorded on the DR800 Series Check Out Sheet.

1.6 If the instrument is private labeled for another vendor (such as Betz or
Nalco) and was received as part of an exchange program, refer
to procedure 19001-01.
CHECK OUT & TESTING INSTRUCTIONS

Test equipment required:

1. DTA Data Transfer Adapter


2. OG570 Stray Light Filter
3. OG590 Stray Light Filter
4. RG695 Stray Light Filter
5. SpeckCheck Color Standard Blank
6. SpeckCheck Color Standard DPD-Chlorine STD 3
7. SpeckCheck Color Standard Ammonia/Monochloramine STD3
8. DI Water
9. Platinum Cobalt Standard Solution

1.0 FUNCTIONAL TESTS:

1.1 Display test:

1.1.1 Press and hold the EXIT I/O key.


1.1.2 Verify all segments are illuminated on the display.
1.1.3 Release the EXIT I/O key.
1.1.4 Record the result on the DR800 Series Check Out Sheet.

1.2 Keyboard test:

1.2.1 Press and release the following keys in the order listed.
The beeper should beep after each key except the SETUP 8
and the EXIT I/O keys.
UP ARROW - DOWN ARROW - ENTER - SETUP 8 -
PRGM 7 - DATE 4 - STORE 1 - ZERO O - READ -
RECALL 2 - TIME 5 - PRINT 9 - CONC 6 - ABS %T 3 -
TIMER CE - EXIT I/O.
1.2.2 Record the result on the DR800 Series Check Out Sheet.

1.3 DTA test:

1.3.1 Connect the Data Transfer Adapter to the instrument.


1.3.2 Press and release the following keys: PRGM - 5 - 2 -
ENTER.
1.3.3 Install the SpeckCheck color standard blank into the sample
compartment. Press the ZERO key.
1.3.4 Wait until 0.000 is displayed, then press the PRINT key.
Verify the instrument printed the displayed reading.
1.3.5 Remove the Data Transfer Adapter.
1.3.6 Record the result on the DR800 Series Check Out Sheet.

2.0 ACCURACY TESTS:

2.1 520nm test:

2.1.1 Press and release the following keys: PRGM - 5 - 2 -


ENTER.
2.1.2 Install the SpeckCheck color standard blank into the
sample compartment. Press the ZERO key.
2.1.3 Wait until 0.000 is displayed, then place the OG570
stray light filter into the sample compartment. (Align the
adapter notch to the 6 o’clock position.) Press and release
the READ key.
2.1.4 Record the reading on the DR800 Series Check Out Sheet.
2.1.5 Place the SpeckCheck color standard DPD-Chlorine STD 3
into the sample compartment. Press and release the READ
key.
2.1.6 Record the reading on the DR800 Series Check Out Sheet.
2.1.7 Press the ZERO key, wait until 0.000 is displayed, then
place the SpeckCheck color standard blank into the sample
compartment. Press and release the READ key.
2.1.8 Record the reading on the DR800 Series Check Out Sheet.

*If you are testing a DR820, proceed to step 3.0 Post Check. If you are testing a
DR850, DR870, DR890 or Palmlab proceed to step 2.2.

2.2 610nm test:

2.2.1 Press and release the following keys: PRGM - 6 - 1 -


ENTER.
2.2.2 Install the SpeckCheck color standard blank into the
sample compartment. Press the ZERO key.
2.2.3 Wait until 0.000 is displayed, then place the RG695 stray
light filter into the sample compartment. (Align the
adapter notch to the 2 o’clock position.) Press and
release the READ key.
2.2.4 Record the reading on the DR800 Series Check Out Sheet.
2.2.5 Place the SpeckCheck color standard Ammonia/
Monochloramine STD 3 into the sample compartment.
Press and release the READ key.
2.2.6 Record the reading on the DR800 Series Check Out Sheet.
*If you are testing a DR850, proceed to step 3.0 Post Check. If you are
testing a DR870, DR890 or Palmlab proceed to step 2.3.

2.3 420nm test:

2.3.1 Press and release the following keys: PRGM - 4 - 2 -


ENTER.
2.3.2 Install the DI water blank into the sample compartment.
Press the ZERO key.
2.3.3 Wait until 0.000 is displayed, then place the OG570
stray light filter into the sample compartment. (Align the
adapter notch to the 6 o’clock position.) Press and
release the READ key.
2.3.4 Record the reading on the DR800 Series Check Out Sheet.
2.3.5 Place the Platinum Cobalt standard solution into the
sample compartment. Press and release the READ key.
2.3.6 Record the reading on the DR800 Series Check Out Sheet.

*If you are testing a DR870, proceed to step 3.0 Post Check. If you are
testing a DR890 or Palmlab proceed to step 2.4.

2.4 560nm test:

2.4.1 Press and release the following keys: PRGM - 5 - 6 -


ENTER.
2.4.2 Install the SpeckCheck color standard blank into the
sample compartment. Press the ZERO key.
2.4.3 Wait until 0.000 is displayed, then place the OG590
stray light filter into the sample compartment. (Align the
adapter notch to the 10 o’clock position.) Press and
release the READ key.
2.4.4 Record the reading on the DR800 Series Check Out Sheet.
2.4.5 Place the SpeckCheck color standard DPD-Chlorine
STD 3 into the sample compartment. Press and release the
READ key.
2.4.6 Record the reading on the DR800 Series Check Out Sheet.

3.0 POST CHECK

3.1 Post check:

3.1.1 If any of the check out tests fail and additional repairs
need to be performed, the entire check out process must
be repeated.
