STS Act 2
STS Act 2
Religion and Science are both powerful but they contradict each other, it is like a water and soil that can’t be mixed together. This
is due to the fact that religion is founded on faith, while science is supported by evidence and believing in the saying that to see is to
believe. Faith is believing in the divine in the absence of evidence. It cannot be detected or measured if it is unknown.
Where a community or cultural group assumes the Faith will shed light on a situation, scientific culture takes priority. Science
practices suffer as politicians choose to bend against legislative agendas based on personal values. Political and cultural landscapes
of the society will greatly affect the development of scientific culture, science activities and science literacy when a cultural or
political entity pushes "truth" through a society that cannot be shown rather than evidence. Then scientific literacy is denied. Also,
the development of these three has a thing to do with the society as the people are the ones who operate and control science. When
truth are greater than evidence then we can see the society as stagnant water that has no development after all.
In our current state, as we are facing this pandemic, cultural and political must push evidence through society because science
inventions is all what we need right now and scientific literacy enables people to look at opportunity to develop the situation rather
than embrace it as it is. We can’t say that we should set aside first our personal beliefs and the truth but when political and cultural
entities consider the development of scientific culture, scientific activities and science literacy then we will make this world a better
place
2. Considering the current state of our society, do you think science literacy among people has contributed to the growth of our
economy? Why? How? (10 points)
Science is a method of learning about the universe. Technology, as a medium, a substance, and an organization, allows
individuals to participate in the creation of new knowledge as well as use evidence to accomplish desired outcomes. Access to
science whether using or generating knowledge requires some experience with the enterprise and practice of science; this is
referred to as science literacy. Considering the current state of our society, I personally agree that science literacy among people
has contributed to the growth of our economy because scientific literacy enables people to explore at opportunities to improve
the future rather than embrace it as it is. Researches, innovation on technology, medication, better and more effective
transportation, pharmaceuticals, and so on are examples. Especially nowadays that we are facing this pandemic. Although we
don’t have a stable economy is that scientists and expertise has been getting smarter as a result of higher education. They
innovate vaccines that is effective to avoid COVID19 and with this, rich people as well as developed countries will sell or buy these
vaccines around other countries not only for their safety but also for their economic growth. Another example is that as more
people gain knowledge of information technology, more small and medium-sized enterprises emerge with new goods,
contributing to economic development.
