Guide for GHK M4

By Heavy Recoil Club (HRC) Saturday, May 2, 2020 1

Version 1

Foreword

This guide or FAQ has been setup to get as many details as possible. For example, which
real parts will fit and which don’t. As it is an M4 / AR platform, it’s relatively easy to work on.
Even for beginners who start using GBBR’s for the first time. Also because it’s an M4,
plenty of parts are available because of it’s popilarity.

This guide has the V2 in mind but there will be some comparison between the v1 and v2.

All information is gathered through personal knowlage and other peoples knowlage on this
platform. A lot of other information is collected from the GBBR Heavy Recoil Club Discord
or GHK groups on Facebook. This document is subjected to change and will be updated
when more information is shared.

Version 1

1.0 The anatomy of the GHK M4

The GHK M4 is one of the most customizable weapon platform on the market. You can
either buy a complete ready to go stock rifle or custom build your own from the ground up.
Building an GHK M4 may sound quite intimidating, but it is actually relatively simple!
Whether you want to build an GBB M4 with GHK parts, or upgrade your stock
configuration, it is important to have a thorough knowledge of its parts. You also need to
know what kinds of accessories are out there. This will allow you to customize your GBBR
to the configuration that you want.

Version 1

1.2 What parts are in the GHK M4?

The GHK m4 can be divided in 2 main groups which all contain different sub groups:

 Upper receiver group:

Upper receiver Barrel Gas block & gas tube

Bolt carrier group Bolt carrier group Charging handle

Charging handle Forward assist Rail system & handguard

Dust cover Muzzle devices Front and rear sights

 Lower receiver group:

Lower receiver Trigger group Lower parts kit

Bolt carrier group Bolt carrier group Charging handle

Magazine Butt stock Buffer tube / buffer / Buffer spring

Pistol grip

This image is from a real ar-15 to explain all the components. However because it is a
GBBR they do share a lot of similarities.

1.3 Upper receiver group

Your GHK M4 upper receiver group is the part that consists of the upper receiver, barrel,
for-end, bolt carrier group and charging handle, as well as other AR-15 upper receiver
components. This component attaches to your rifle’s lower receiver to form your
fully-functional M4 GBBR.

Just like other parts of your rifle, the upper receiver group can be customized to your
exact specifications. You can choose to buy a stock product and start shooting right away,
or you can buy the parts separately and build it up yourself.

1.3.8 Bolt carrier group

There are a number of components inside the bolt carrier group, including the nozzle
which also has a lot of parts, bolt and bot stop. At a very basic level, the bolt carrier group
is responsible for loading your rifle.

Depending on which year of production you could have the V1 Bolt carrier or the V2 bolt
carrier. The V1 Bolt carrier has been made from 2014 until 2017. The V2 has a new
design for the bolt lock. Both are steel made. Although the V1 bolt carrier isn’t being
produced anymore, it is still possible to buy one as today. (30th of April, 2020.)

If you have issue of nozzle not move smoothly (over tight or loose) in new M4 bolt carrier,
please refer to the following article in this manual (click here. Insert hyperlink)

 M4-17 V1 Bolt carrier (2014~2017) $35.00

 M4-17-V2 V2 Bolt carrier, with new designed chamfer for bolt lock $95.00

Nozzle
The nozzle is located inside the bolt carrier. The function of the nozzle is to push the bb in
the chamber and hop up and redirect the gas or co2 to propel the BB down the barrel.
GHK does produce 4 different nozzles which do output different muzzle velocities.
(Results may vary depending on environmental temperature)

 M4-15 ≈ 120m/s - ≈ 393 FPS

 M4-15-1J ≈ 100m/s - ≈ 328 FPS
 M4-15-H ≈ 130m/s - ≈ 425 FPS
 M4-15-L ≈ 80-90m/s - ≈ 295 FPS

1.4 Lower receiver group

The lower receiver group connects to the upper receiver group, and together, the two
parts complete your rifle. You’ll find the trigger group, buffer tube, magazine release,
safety selector, bolt catch and all other necessary components

1.4.1 Lower receiver

GHK does manufacture the lower receiver with a few different engravings. The blank
lower receiver is completely with no markings such as semi, auto, safe or markings like
brands which all other receivers have. The receivers are made from an aluminium alloy.

 M4-19 - Original navy marking $50.00

- Blank $50
- Colt M4A1 $90.00

1.4.2 Lower parts kit

The lower parts kit are the components which are mostly visible from the outside. These
include components like the pivot pin, takedown pin and bolt catch but also components
like the the safety selector and pistol grip.

You’re able to buy all internal parts of the lower receiver for $81.00 here

 M4-24 Fire control fixing pin. $1.00

Trigger group
The trigger group is one of the most important parts for your your rife. It does contain
component like the trigger and trigger spring and much more. Without it you can’t shoot it.
It’s also an important part to have a good experience with your M4. A heavy the feel or
shape of the trigger can make you say “yes this is awesome” or “it could be better”. For
example you can have triggers which are curved or flat like the Hephaestus flat triggers.

Version 1

Trigger set components

 M4-25 Trigger set, steel made $15.00

 M4-26 Auto lever, steel made $3.00

Safety selector
A safety selector or safety catch is a mechanical component which ensures that your rifle
is safer to shoot and helps reduce the chance of an accidental discharge. The safety
selector can vary in design and style but the function remains the same. For example an
ambidextrous which does mean you can operate the selector from either sides from the
receiver.

 M4-27 selector set, steel made $12.00

By Heavy Recoil Club (HRC) Saturday, May 2, 2020 17

Version 1

Magazine catch
The magazine catch or also known as the magazine release has the function to properly
lock the magazine in the magazine well of the lower receiver and drop it free and clear
when the magazine release button is depressed.

 M4-28 magazine fixing button, steel made $11.00

Buffer location pin

The buffer location pin or also known as the Buffer detent pin is not needed for the GHM
M4 to function. It is just to stop the Buffer (M4-33) from springing out during the
disassembling of the rife but it’s very useful to have so you can’t go without it actually. It
also helps to align the buffer tube in the lower receiver (M4-19)

 M4-29 Buffer locate pin, steel made $1.00

The takedown pin

The Takedown Pin or Pivot pin on an GHK m4 or any other M4 rifle is the first pin you
push in when you want to separate the lower receiver from the upper. The takedown
pin located above the grip and is held in place by a small and spring, called
the takedown Detent and Detent Spring, which are hidden inside the lower receiver.

 M4-30 Takedown pin (End combination pin, steel made) $5.00

By Heavy Recoil Club (HRC) Saturday, May 2, 2020 18

Version 1

Trigger guard

A trigger guard a component which does reduce the chance of an accidental discharge by
filling in the gap at the bottom of the lower receiver
 M4-31 Trigger bow set, aluminium made $4.00

1.4.3 Pistol grips

To able to hold the rifle you have to have a pistol grip. A good pistol grip can make the
difference in comfort and discomfort. A lot models and brands do exist but also the angle
the pistol grip is in. For example a standard GHK A2 pistol grip has an angle of 25°. If you
prefer a more shallow angle you can get an 20° or 15°. Luckily most real pistol grips fit
without any modification.

 M4-32 Grip, plastic $20.00

1.4.4 Buffer tube / buffer

The buffer tube or also known as the receiver extension is the component which contains
a buffer and buffer weight. This is the assembly by which the bolt is pushed back forward
after recoil and chambering a new round. In this case a new BB. It also allows the user to
attach a stock to the rifle. The GHK buffer tube is mil-spec which does mean that all
mil-spec buffer tubes will fit. (Ø1.14” or Ø28.95mm)

By Heavy Recoil Club (HRC) Saturday, May 2, 2020 19

Version 1

Buffer weight
The buffer weight helps absorb the recoil of the rifle. In a GBBR m4 like the GHK M4
changing the weight can reduce or increase the felt recoil but it also has effect on the rate
of fire and the gas usage.

 M4-33 Buffer tube steel & aluminium made

 M4-33-1

Buffer spring
Buffer spring or recoil spring function is to absorb recoil and cycle the action back in
battery. With a GBBR, by installing a stiffer buffer spring it will increase your rate of fire
(ROF) but it also will increase your gas usage.

 M4-34 Recoil spring, Iron made $4.00

Buffer tube
The buffer tube is mil-spec with which is Ø1.14”. A real butter tube is most of the time
cheaper than an airsoft variant and will fit just fine. The buffer tube is connected by the
castle nut to the lower receiver

 M4-35-1 GHK M4 butt stock rod, plastic and metal made. $40.00

By Heavy Recoil Club (HRC) Saturday, May 2, 2020 20

Version 1

1.4.5 Butt stock

How your rifle rests on your shoulder plays a major role in your overall gunning experience.
It’s easy to be distracted if you’re uncomfortable while aiming at targets. In the simplest
terms, the butt stock is the part of your AR-15 that connects to the rifle’s firing
mechanisms. Like most other parts of your gun, you can choose among a wide array of
butt stock options to build your rifle to your exact specifications. There are plenty of
different stocks out there like a fixed stock or collapsible stock. Comfort is very important if
you’re using your rife for an extensive long period.

The GHK M4 comes with a standard military style m4 stock.

 M4-35 Butt stock, aluminium made steel and plastic made. $80.00

1.4.6 Sights

Iron sights play a crucial part in aiming at your target. Without it it’s way more difficult to hit
your target at a longer distance. The sights, at the front and rear, can be adjusted in the
hight and wind direction and can be folded away. They also can be used as a backup
sight if your optic breaks or does run-out of battery. For the ascetic it does give it a more
complete

Common Modifications

DEVILHUNTER mod (DHM)

The DevilHunter Mod is designed to allow you to refill GHK AR and AK magazines with
liquid CO2. The original Mod is designed to allow players to refill the CO2 magazines
(refilling the CO2 capsule left in the magazine) but some people have done the Mod on
green gas magazines instead.

Materials for the modification:

 GHK STANAG / Gmag green gas magazine (v1 or above)

 KJW M9 Inlet valve
 GHK m4 Co2 output valve
 Teflon tape

1.2 What’s the difference between the V1 and V2

 V2 has a CNC'ed BC that's heat treated. They've fixed their bolt catch problem and
added magnates to ensure full contact. Lastly it includes the new light weight mag.
