Interference of Sound Waves
When two waves simultaneously pass through the same region of space
they interfere with one another. For example, sound waves of the same
wavelength from two speakers:

A & B : in phase ( both forming crests or troughs simultaneously)

C : Crest (trough) of one wave with a crest


(trough) of another wave:
constructive interference

D : One crest with another trough:


destructive interference

NOTE:
interference would not be produced
if sound did not exhibit wave like
properties.

YOUNG’S DOUBLE- SLIT EXPERIMENT
By studying the double-slit experiment,
we can show that:
the interference effect will occur;
therefore light behaves as wave:

If light is a wave, light passing through one of two slits should
interfere with light passing through the other slit
The interference occurs because each point on the screen is
not the same

interference:
