“M&M and TAFE have lost 140 bps and 20 bps market share, respectively in FY2019 while
Escorts and Sonalika have gained 110 bps and 40 bps share, respectively over this period.
Smaller overseas players such as Kubota (+35 per cent yoy) and New Holland (+20 per cent
yoy) have grown at a faster pace and have gained some market share. Mahindra has lost
market share across all major markets except Bihar,” report added.
M&M Two Wheelers merged into M&M last year, however, it has not been
able to register a growth in the market ever since its incorporation.
The company launched some products inherited from Kinetic and some
developed indigenously.
The Gusto and Rodeo were one of the first offerings from Mahindra in the
scooter segment, however, the products never caught with stern competition
from Honda and TVS.
The Stallio was their first motorcycle launched in October 2010, but never
garnered much popularity, especially after all of the customer units were
recalled over trouble with the gearbox.
October 2015, launched its 300cc touring motorcycle Mojo, attracting praise
for its refined engine; quality of fit & finish; and its equipment & features. But,
Mahindra was a little late in introducing this bike and it could never rise above
amidst stiff competition from the likes of KTM, Honda and then Bajaj launched
the Dominar 400.
