Cadastral Survey Using Plane Table

Plane table surveying is a graphical technique to map portions of the Earth's surface onto paper. It involves using a plane table and alidade. The plane table is a flat surface measuring approximately 75cm by 60cm. The alidade has two types - plain and telescopic. Both are used with the plane table to measure horizontal and vertical angles to plot points on the map. Measurements of height difference and horizontal distance are calculated using formulas involving readings from the alidade and stadia staff. This allows surveying of an area by establishing stations and measuring points between them.
