《Advanced Manufacturing Technology》Experimental Report

1) The student conducted an experiment on 3D printing technology to understand the basic concepts and operation of a 3D printer. 2) The experimental process involved using 3D modeling software to design parts, slicing models for 3D printing, operating the 3D printer, and evaluating the final printed parts. 3) The student reported having a good experience in the experiment and learning about 3D printing, but noted some imperfections in the final printed parts that required post-processing.

Experiment 1 3D Printing

Ⅰ. Experimental Preparation

a). Experimental Objectives

Understand the basic concept of 3D printing technology through experiments, understand the

system composition of 3D printer, master the basic operation of 3D printer, deepen the

understanding of molten deposition manufacturing, and cultivate the ability of practice and

innovation.

b). Experimental Contents

1. 3D computer software was used to model the molded parts and save them in the "STL" format.

TMCTW400T software was used to transform and make the models;

2. Observe and analyze the structure and use method of wiiboox1 desktop 3D

printer;

3. Complete model printing of forming parts.

c). Experimental Principles

3D printing, also known as additive manufacturing, is a kind of rapid prototyping technology.

It is a direct manufacturing technology based on digital model files, which can produce almost any

shape of 3d entity.3D printing USES adhesive materials such as powdery metal or plastic to build

objects by stacking and accumulating them layer by layer. 3D printing is different from traditional

machining techniques, which are usually achieved by cutting or drilling (known as the "reduction"

process). In the fields of mold manufacturing and industrial design, 3D printing technology is often

used to make models and is gradually being used in the direct manufacturing of some products. In

particular, some high-value products (such as hip joints or teeth, or some airplane parts) already

have parts printed using this technology, which means the popularity of "3D printing". Currently,

there are more than ten different processes for 3D printing, such as Stereolithography Apparatus

(SLA), Laminar Object Manufacturing (LOM), Selective Laser Sintering (SLS), Fused Deposition

Molding (FDM), Solid Ground Curing (SGC), 3D Printing (3DP), and granulation (BPM).

Wiiboox1 desktop 3D printer, using FDM (Fused Deposition) molding technology. The

process flow is as follows: the CAD model is divided into layers of extremely thin sections to

generate 2d geometric information that controls the moving path of the FDM nozzle; The FDM

heating head heats the hot melt materials (ABS, PLA, nylon, wax, etc.) to the critical state, showing

the semi-fluid property. Under the control of the computer, along the 2d geometric information

movement trajectory determined by the upper computer software, the nozzle extrudes the materials

in the semi-fluid state and solidifies them to form a thin layer of contour shape. When one layer is

finished, the forming table drops a layer thickness and continues to form the next layer. In this way,

layers are stacked and bonded to form a three-dimensional entity of parts from bottom to top.

Ⅱ. Experimental Steps

Ⅴ. Experimental Procedure

a. Conversion of 3D model data format for forming parts

1) Open the software TMCTW400T, double-click the icon ; click the button of

to find the 3d model data (**. STL format) file of the part to be formed, and

select the file;

2) Select the model with the mouse, and pop up ICONS

in the lower left

corner of the main interface for rotation, scaling and mirroring.

3) Click
the icon

to save the
generated Gcode
file to the
specified
directory and
import it
into the SD
card.
to start slicing. After slicing is completed, click the icon

b. Change the material

To install and remove the material, preheat the sprinkler head until the temperature reaches

210 degrees. Press down the spring next to the sprinkler head and insert or pull out the material

through the small hole above the sprinkler head. The nozzle must be wired before installation. c.

Part forming

1) Load forming parts processing file SD card

2) Open the printer power switch to enter the standby interface;

3) Press the multi-function knob in the standby interface, rotate the multi-function knob to

select the main menu, select the Gcodeg format with the print file, press the multi-function

knob to return to the standby interface, the printer starts to warm up, and the printing starts

after the pre-heating;

4) After printing, the nozzle is returned to the original position, and the display shows the

printing time

5) Take out the model with special tools;

6) The molding model is polished, cleaned and processed.

d. Take photos of the processing model;
Ⅲ. Experimental Results

The experience of my experiment was good enough when the printing machine had been in love
with the 3D model for a long time until I was hoping that my design would be completed. This is a
very patient experiment. But when I got my final 3D model after the experiment, everything looked
good. But in some places there were some extra parts that emerged as a result of 3D printing that
had to be removed with the help of later cutters. As a result of this kind of designing, we can easily
do a lot of difficult designs by designing with computer solids.
