Anecdote about COVID-19 Experiences

Last March 16, 2020, people all over the world were completely off guard
due to the rampant cases of Coronavirus from Wuhan wherein the borders of some
countries decided to close in order to avoid transmission of virus from one place to
another.
For me, it has advantages and disadvantages based on what I have
experienced. So, let us do some flashbacks last year.
I was a former senior high school student and we were about to conduct
our graduation ceremony, but due to unexpected circumstances, we were not able to
make it. Instead, they just gave our diplomas and medals to be brought at home. It was
my first virtual graduation ever. It was sad but we were still grateful that we were safe.
After that, Department of Education decided delay of classes to public
schools. Luckily, some private schools were able to continue their operation but through
online class only. Since the lockdown, it was extremely hard to go out especially when
we want to buy our foods and personal needs. I remember those days that we must wait
for the governments food donation just to be compensated from suspended work duties
of our parents because of the increasing number of COVID-19 positive. As we can see
from TV News, many Filipino families lost their jobs and just rely on the government’s
fund to survive and we were one of the beneficiaries. If you are about to ask me, we still
also do not like what happened during pandemic, but we have no choice.
During holy week last year, vehicles were not able to pass because of the community
quarantine guidelines. So, normal beach outings and mass gatherings that were being
done before the pandemic were forbidden. We just stay at home, do social distancing,
wear masks and practice sanitizing everyday—our daily precautions to avoid being
infected. I was already a college student then and I was enrolled at Surigao Education
Center, currently, we are having our online classed and limited face to face during
evaluations. I am still thankful because I still able to continue my college degree despite
of today’s crisis that we are facing all over the world.
December is fast approaching and still, just like last year, I still hope for a
better future and more vaccines to roll out so that we have protection from Coronavirus.
After a year, closed establishments slowly opened. I was able to go out
after my online classes. Now we can do again beach outings but unlike before we need
to wear facemasks and face shields.
After what happened to us, I realized if I could turn back time, I will cherish
those moments where I can visit my friend freely, those times where I can bond with our
distant relatives. Because as time goes by we need to cope up with the new normal. We
should not forget to pray to God because being alive nowadays is a true blessing from
Him.
