Self - Learning Home Task (SLHT) : Subject: Science Grade: 6 Level: Elementary Quarter: 3 Week: 3
Objectives:
K- Identify the different forms of energy
S- Discover how some forms of energy work
A - Display appreciation of the different forms of energy use in their daily activities
A. Readings/Discussions:
Imagine that you are one of these pupils watching the basketball game. What will you be
doing while watching your favorite team?
Will you also clap your hands?
Will you shout?
Will you wave your banner?
Will you feel the heat of your body making you perspire?
No matter what you do, you are using energy. Energy comes from the Greek word “
energia “ which means “ in-work.”Energy is the ability to do work. Without energy you cannot
accomplish anything. You cannot move, heart cannot pump, eyes cannot see, ears cannot hear
and you can`t breathe, eat and speak. In other words without energy one will not exist. Energy
enables us to move, shout, warm up and even think.
Energy comes in different forms .
6. Thermal or Heat energy is energy present in everybody due to the motion of its
molecules. The sun and the heat from volcano are examples of thermal energy.
7. Nuclear energy is energy released by the splitting of the nucleus called fission and by
combining the nucleus called fusion. Nuclear energy is an alternative source of
energy Nuclear energy is “cleaner” than fossil fuels since nuclear power plants do not
emit dust and other particles that cause air pollution. This is used to generate electricity
to provide fuels for the engines in ships and submarines and to make atomic bombs.
It is also used in the field of medicine.
B. Exercises
Exercise 1.
A B.
G. mechanical energy

____3.Lighting a bulb
____ 4. Sun’s rays
____ 5. Moving car
____ 6.Grilling barbeque
____ 7. Drying clothes
____ 8.Ultraviolet rays
____ 9.Plucking the guitar
___ 10.Burning a matchstick
Directions: Read each item carefully and write your answers in your notebook.
1.What type of energy do plants use to make sugar in the photosynthesis process?
A. chemical energy B. light energy C. mechanical Energy D. thermal energy
2. Food, batteries, and fuel such as gasoline are similar because they are sources of
_________ energy.
A. chemical energy B. energy C. light energy D. mechanical energy

GUIDE
Advise the students to read the Reading and Discussion portion before they
attempt to answer the practice exercises. Let the learners go through the parts
sequentially to help them understand the topic easily. The Key Answers are for you
to refer during the checking. Don’t include it in the printing.
Read thoroughly and understand the Self-Learning Home Task from the first part
to the last part. By doing so, will help you understand better the topic. If you still
have enough time, do it twice for more understanding. You can use a dictionary if
you find it hard to comprehend the science terms. Use a separate sheet for your
answers.
Assist your child and make sure that he/she reads the Self-Learning Home Task
from the beginning up to end, to ensure proper understanding of the concepts. Don’t
feed the answer to your child. Let her/him do it of his own.
