Quality
CP Kelco has proudly received GFSI – FSSC 22000 Certifications for all nine manufacturing facilities.
Marketing to regulated industries such as food, pharmaceutical and cosmetics, requires compliance with current Good
Manufacturing Practices (cGMPs). All CP Kelco manufacturing facilities are compliant to cGMPs, have fully developed and
audited HACCP plans, have established raw material certification and qualification procedures and actively participate in
customer and third party audits.
As part of the Global QMS Internal Audit process, CP Kelco employs an external certified cGMP consultant as part of the
audit team. The third party cGMP expert audits the entire facility to assure compliance to cGMPs and HACCP requirements.
The auditor is intimately knowledgeable on the facility’s QMS policies and procedures, and performs an inspection of the entire
manufacturing site, processes, records and training.
CP Kelco’s ongoing Quality Improvement Initiatives places intense focus on food safety. As a reflection of this focus, all CP Kelco
facilities have been audited for compliance to the Global Food Safety Initiative, Food Safety System Certification FSSC 22000.
This global food safety management standard continues to build on prerequisite programs and existing quality management
systems and validates for our customers CP Kelco food ingredients are safe and certified by the GFSI.
Quality
As of October 2012, all CP Kelco facilities comply with cGMP, have received ISO-9001:2008 certification, and have completed
third party GFSI audits and certifications.
All CP Kelco facilities have conducted unannounced Third Party cGMP Consultant Audits.
A Global QMS Internal Audit process is in place at all CP Kelco facilities. This high-intensive audit process ensures our facilities
operate in an “audit-ready” mode and can be inspected at any time to meet global recognized standards for quality systems
and regulatory compliance.

need. Under a program titled “CP Kelco Cares,” CP Kelco sites have established an ongoing
program to help and donate in the communities in which we live and operate.
Activities are very diverse depending upon the location: donated funds and/or time to river
preservation, funding a municipal library, training of apprentices, providing supplies to school,
providing assistance to low income individuals and families…

with a combination of a vast product portfolio and our application expertise, we provide
solutions to the most creative and difficult food and beverage product design challenges.
CP Kelco abides by the Huber Environmental Health and Safety Policy and is committed
to complying with all environmental regulations that affect our operations. In addition,
CP Kelco works continuously to lower our environmental footprint by responsibly using
natural resources, and supporting a comprehensive energy policy that includes new and
traditional energy sources. CP Kelco manufacturing sites have been listed on the parent
company’s Sustainability Performance Metrics system since 2005. Each year CP Kelco sets
reduction goals for waste generation, water and energy consumption.
Energy
• Äänekoski, Finland (Cellulose Gum/CMC Facility) - 100% of energy used is
generated by biomass and hydoelectric sources.
• Limeira, Brazil (Pectin Facility) - 75% of the energy used at this facility is renewable
energy, generated by combustion of biomass and hydroelectric power.
• Lille Skensved, Denmark (Pectin and Carrageenen Facility) - In 2011, the site
installed a new evaporator that lowers energy and water consumption.
• San Diego, California, USA (Gellan Gum, Xanthan Gum Facility); Okmulgee,
Oklahoma, USA (Xanthan Gum Facility), Lille, Skensved, Denmark (Pectin and
Carrageenan Facility) and Grossenbrode, Germany (Pectin Facility) -- all capture
biogas for energy recovery.
Water
• Pectin Production - Water is used to wash citrus peel prior to use. This water
contains a dilute concentration of nitrogen. In 2010 the Limeira, Brazil pectin facility
registered this waste water with the government as a fertilizer called FERPEC®.
FERPEC is used for the irrigation and fertilization of citrus and sugar cane crops, and
is sold to local farmers in Brazil.
• Cellulose Gum/CMC Production - The Äänekoski, Finland facility resides in a complex
with four integrated paper mills. This allows the five facilities to work together to
borrow, treat and recycle water.
• As a critical global resource, water is incorporated into the Environmental, Health
and Safety risk index for each manufacturing site.
Waste
• At Lille Skensved, Denmark waste perlite from filtration is provided to grass farmers
to condition and lighten the soil.
• The pectin extraction process at Limeira, Brazil creates a high volume of citrus peel
waste that still has nutritional value. In 1998 Limeira started selling the waste, called
BRAPOLPA®, to cattle farmers for feed.
• San Diego, California generates an organic waste material from the production
of gellan gum. This waste is applied to soil to help improve the soil structure.
• Cebu, Philippines has turned waste perlite and salt and sand cleaned off of seaweed
into soil conditioners and fertilizers.
Land Stewardship
• J.M. Huber Corporation, the parent company of CP Kelco, has donated over
1,000,000 acres of land for habitat preservation. Working with non-governmental
organizations such as The Nature Conservancy, J.M. Huber has helped protect
biologically sensitive areas.
• CP Kelco continues this tradition by ensuring that 75% of the cellulose used
in our production processes comes from forests that are certified by the
Program for the Endorsement of Forest Certification, or that meet the
requirements of certification.
