Professional Experience
Defenders of Wildlife, Washington DC Jan. 2020 – May 2020
Geoinformatics & Data Science Intern
Utilized Python in a new machine learning application that can correctly determine the presence
of solar panels on the ground by using Sentinel-2 imagery as training data.

 Created scripts in Google Earth Engine to investigate the accuracy of the machine
learning program.
CINCIA Amazon Scientific Innovation Center, done remotely June 2018 – Aug. 2018
GIS Summer Intern
Investigated the spatial pattern of deforestation due to gold mining in Madre de Dios, a region in
the Peruvian Amazon, using remotely sensed data from Landsat and statistical tools such as
hotspot analysis in ESRI ArcGIS. Developed cartographic deliverables in terms of professional
maps to indicate deforestation hotspots, identify trends in deforestation over the past 20 years,
and investigate the relationship between deforestation and the price of gold.
 Identified regions in the Madre de Dios that should be focal points for controlling the
growth of gold mining.

GIS Projects
Clark University, Worcester, MA Aug. 2017 – May 2017
Remote Sensing Student

Assessed the 2017 flood damage in the metro Houston area after Hurricane Harvey. Interpreted
Sentinel-1 post-flooding images using supervised classification and created maps indicating the
flooded areas. Assessed demographics of the flooded neighborhoods and compared them to
the demographics of the entire city of Houston.

 Identified flooded areas in both low- and high-income areas of the city.

Clark University, Worcester, MA Jan. 2018 – May 2018

Raster GIS Student
Forecasted changes in Central American land cover out to 2030 to demonstrate deforestation
trends for the Nature Conservatory. Measured changes with Terrset’s neural networks.
Clark University, Worcester, MA Jan. 2018 – May 2018
Vector GIS Student
Examined the occurrence, spatial distribution, and cluster patterns of forest fires in California’s
history using ArcGIS to find meaningful spatial patterns that could be a resource for future fire
prevention or management. Found the most appropriate data source, considered data quality
issues, analyzed geospatial data, and created maps of California that showed the results.

 Presented this project as a poster at the AAG meeting in 2019.
