Serve-side script execution with Windows PowerShell
Manages PowerShell script files that can be triggered by the ScriptExecute command. Scripts are graphic-independent and all HMI servers share
script files under the same application.

Data Grid object
A native table control to retrieve and display records from a SQL database, including historical alarm data and user-defined databases.

SVG image
An SVG image that can be added to a graphic object. SVG images can be scaled up and down without losing image quality.

ThinManager functions
ThinManager functions can be used in an expression to show the status and connection information of the ThinManager terminal.

Variable for determining confirmation types
Configures a tag or parameter to determine the confirmation types before writing a value to a tag.

Numeric input remark property
Allows operators to log a customized audit message in the Diagnostics Log when setting a tag value. The current value and the new value can be
included in the audit message.

FactoryTalk View version 12.00.00 modernizes FactoryTalk View Studio to enhance design efficiency and optimize user experience by providing:
Customized window layouts that facilitate your development workflows and the ability to keep the layout once customized.
Searchable toolbox containing all the graphic objects and easy access to frequently used graphic objects.
Quick search in the Object Explorer to filter elements on the graphic display.
Function to quickly zoom in and zoom out using the shortcut keys, Ctrl and mouse scroll wheel, Ctrl and +, or Ctrl and -.
Function to move an object in small increments using an arrow key.

 FactoryTalk View version 12.00.00 adds the function to organize graphic displays with folders in FactoryTalk View Studio.

Global object runtime optimization
Optimizes the runtime performance of the FactoryTalk View SE client if the application includes a large quantity of global objects.

FactoryTalk View SE Website Setup tool
An enhanced utility to simplify the steps to enable custom website and enable the HTTPS protocol for secure communications.

Symbol Factory
A new version of Symbol Factory that includes enhanced symbols with a native format of SVG. You can toggle the view between Basic and Enhanced
symbols.

ScreenPrint command enhancement
Introduces the new /m parameter to specify which monitor to print when using the ScreenPrint command in a multiple-monitor configuration.

RecipePro+ security enhancement
Adds a specific security permission Modify TagSet to prevent operators from making unauthorized modifications to the tag set in a recipe file.

TrendPro VBA enhancement
Adds new TrendPro VBA methods, SetCaption, SetMinMax, SetMinMaxUseTag, and SetUnit, to provide more runtime editing abilities.

Corrected Anomalies
This release corrects the following anomalies.

When replicating from primary to secondary or restarting the secondary HMI server, using a customized data log file folder without the LOCAL
SERVICE access leads to a long starting time of the secondary HMI server. First reported in version 9.00.00. [153380, Jira 41967]
In this release, the HMI server responds and shows an error message, indicating that the datalog file access is denied. This is because of the security
enhancements in FactoryTalk View SE, which requires the customized folder to be granted with the LOCAL SERVICE access. To grant the access, add
the user LOCAL SERVICE to the security of the folder you are writing your datalog models to. For more instructions, see Knowledgebase Document
ID: BF22544 - HMI Server Stuck at Starting or Not Loaded.

If the tag in a Remark command includes extended tag properties, changing the current application language also changes the language of the
extended tag property value. First reported in version 11.00.00. [Jira 461798]
In this release, changing the application language will not change the language of the extended tag property value. The value is determined by the
default application language.

If an FactoryTalk Alarms and Events object is used on a global object display, it cannot be imported to another global object display through an XML
file. First reported in version 11.00.00. [Jira 440830]
In this release, the FactoryTalk Alarms and Events object can be imported to another global object display successfully.

If the Require E-Signature is selected for a Numeric Input object, an error message indicating that value was out of range shows after the value is
successfully written to the log files. First reported in version 11.00.00. [Jira 432224]
In this release, invalid values will not be written to the log files.

When replicating an HMI project from the active server to the standby server, an "out of disk space" error message shows even though the server
computers have sufficient disk space. First reported in version 10.00.00. [Jira 432217]
In this release, the replication operation completes successfully if the server computers have sufficient disk space.

DerivedTags.exe and DisplayClient.exe programs may stop responding. First reported in version 10.00.00. [Jira 419581, Jira 397369, Jira 42412]
In this release, the problems of programs not responding are fixed.

After configuring the engineering unit for the TrendPro object, the Unit column is empty in the Trace Data dialog box at runtime. First reported in
version 10.00.00. [Jira 415244]
In this release, the engineering unit shows correctly in the Unit column.

When right-clicking the x-axis of a Trend object and dragging to change the span over 24 days, the span will reset to zero, and will show the pens
incorrectly. First reported in version 11.00.00. [Jira 407766]
In this release, right-clicking and dragging the x-axis works properly.

When using a client configuration of multiple monitors and displays are cached, the displays do not retain their screen position after closed and
reopened. They cannot replace the existing display that they are being called over. First reported in version 11.00.00. [Jira 399254]
In this release, cached displays of the multiple monitor configuration retain their position and can replace the existing display they are being called
over.

A floating-point value that exceeds the maximum value set in a Numeric Input object can be downloaded to the controller, if there are six digits
including the decimal point. First reported in version 11.00.00. [Jira 398117]
In this release, a floating-point value of six digits that exceeds the maximum value cannot be downloaded to the controller.

FactoryTalk Alarms and Events commands do not work properly with global objects because the commands cannot parse the parameters when using
parameter files with global objects. First reported in version 11.00.00. [Jira 387659]
In this release, FactoryTalk Alarms and Events commands can parse the parameters correctly when using parameter files with global objects.

When an application uses a client running in a Remote Desktop Services (RDS) environment, the parameter files that are passed with the display may
not be loaded. First reported in version 10.00.00. [Jira 393092]
In this release, the parameter files can be loaded successfully on an RDS-based client.

When zooming out on a global object display, FactoryTalk View Studio will stop responding. First reported in version 11.00.00. [Jira 389515]
In this release, FactoryTalk View Studio works properly when zooming out on a global object display.

When an object uses the gradient shading and the display background is dark, a colored border shows around the object. First reported in version
11.00.00. [Jira 375088]
In this release, the colored border doesn't show around the object.

The control from AXIS Media Control cannot be inserted on the display on Windows 7 (32-bit) operating systems. First reported in version 11.00.00.

In this release, the control from AXIS Media Control can be inserted on the display.

If an initial display uses parameters, when clearing the display history or logging on with another user, the subsequent display history doesn't show
any parameters. First reported in version 11.00.00. [Jira 340138]
In this release, the display history shows parameters of the initial display properly.

Using $tag$ within the path of a tag (for example, folder\$tag$) doesn't work in FactoryTalk View SE. First reported in version 11.00.00. [Jira 300304]
In this release, $tag$ can now be used in the path of a tag, for example, folder1/$tag1$/tag2.

On operating systems such as Windows 10 and Windows Server 2016, pointing to a color in the color palette doesn't show the frame around that
color. First reported in version 11.00.00. [Jira 299044]
In this release, the frame around the color in the color palette shows properly.

The referenced line object can be resized even if its LinkSize property is set as True. First reported in version 11.00.00. [Jira 263934]
In this release, when the LinkSize property is set as True, the referenced line object cannot be resized.

After logging out and logging in with the Logout and Login commands, Local Station and Network Station cannot be activated by the RSVSE.15
license. First reported in version 10.00.00. [Jira 272198]

Some applications listed in the FactoryTalk Local Directory may not show in the FactoryTalk View SE Application Manager. First reported in version

In this release, the Application Manager lists all the applications.

When dragging an image object from one corner across the display to the other corner, the Image Properties dialog box may not open. First
reported in version 12.00.00. [Jira 160915]
In this release, the Image Properties dialog box can be opened successfully.

The size and position information of the ListView Control 6.0 in the Property Panel shows incorrectly when reopened if the display property is
configured as Zoom to Fit. First reported in version 10.00.00. [Jira 250865]
In this release, the size and position of the ListView Control 6.0 show correctly.

In a FactoryTalk View SE local application, when switching between the calling display and the display with a gauge object repeatedly, the gauge
object shows different thresholds for the same value that is set in the tag intermittently. First reported in version 11.00.00. [Jira 248983]
In this release, the gauge shows the correct threshold when switching between the displays.

If a global object is restored from FactoryTalk View SE version 8.2, when reopening the display with the global object, the global object's height or
width changes unexpectedly. First reported in version 11.00.00. [Jira 242636]
In this release, after reopening a display with the global object that is restored from version 8.2, the global object's height or width remains
unchanged.

When restoring a stand-alone project to a newly named project, the HMI tag database files are not renamed accordingly. First reported in version
11.00.00. [Jira 242622]
In this release, after restoring the application and renaming it, the database files are renamed accordingly.

When the connection to the SQL Server is lost, the data logging switches to the ODBC backup path. However, after approximately 10 hours,
Serverframework.exe stops responding. First reported in version 7.00.00. [Jira 235051]
In this release, Serverframework.exe works properly.

When using the PrimaryServerStatus() or SecondaryServerStatus() expression in a derived tag file to pass the value to an HMI or controller tag, it will
not pass the correct value. First reported in version 10.00.00. [Jira 42363]
In this release, the correct value is passed to the HMI or controller tag.

When a display with an ActiveX object is docked by the Display command, the client will stop responding upon triggering the logout or auto logout
feature. First reported in version 10.00.00. [Jira 183889]
In this release, when triggering the logout or auto logout feature, the client will continue to function correctly.

The default font cannot be changed by using the DefaultFont registry key under Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USE\Software\Rockwell
Software\RSView Enterprise\Attributes. First reported in version 11.00.00. [Jira 42407]
In this release, changing the DefaultFont registry key can change the default font successfully.

After test running an application for two hours, the application cannot be closed, and FactoryTalk View Studio stops responding. First reported in
version 10.00.00. [Jira 42408]
In this release, the test application can be closed properly after doing a test run.

TrendPro traces with dash lines appear solid if the time span is more than 10 minutes. First reported in version 11.00.00. [Jira 42438]
In this release, TrendPro traces with dash lines show correctly with different time spans.

When performing the Logout command from FactoryTalk View SE, the ThinManager thin client is also logged out. First reported in version 10.00.00.

In this release, the ThinManager thin client remains logged in when logging out of the FactoryTalk View SE with the Logout command.

When using the ScreenPrint command in a multiple-monitor configuration, the command does not print the screen on the monitor which it is issued
from. Instead, it always prints the primary monitor contents. First reported in version 9.00.00. [Jira 42411]
In this release, use the /m parameter to specify which monitor to print. It takes effect only when you use multiple physical monitors in the client.

When the active data server is turned off, the client stops responding while the diagnostics list is displaying a large number of errors. First reported in
version 10.00.00. [Jira 42271]
In this release, the client remains responsive while the diagnostics list is displaying a large number of errors.
 Prior to FactoryTalk View version 11.0, circular references for Global Object parameters are not allowed. Circular references for Global Objects can be
inadvertently be created using Find and Replace. First reported in version 10.00.00. [Jira 160980]
In this release, using Find and Replace will no longer create circular references.

After changing the font style and size of a string input object to anything other than the default value of Arial 10, clicking between characters doesn't
accurately place the cursor. First reported in version 9.00.00. [Jira 76286]
In this release, clicking between characters can accurately place the cursor.

FactoryTalk View File Viewer stops responding when opening a DAT file or saving a large data file in the CSV or DBF format. First reported in version
8.20.00. [Jira 41698]
In this release, FactoryTalk View File Viewer remains responsive when opening a DAT file or saving a large data file.

The AE_DisabledCount function does not detect the existing disabled alarms after restarting the FactoryTalk Alarms and Events server service. First
reported in version 11.00.00. [Jira 42101]
In this release, after restarting the FactoryTalk Alarms and Events server service, the AE_DisabledCount function can detect the number of existing
disabled alarms correctly.

After starting and stopping the test run of a display with a Web Browser object, the application or the display cannot be closed and FactoryTalk View
Studio stops responding. First reported in version 10.00.00. [Jira 42329]
In this release, the display can be closed successfully after stopping a test run.

When using a tag list to replace tag placeholders, only one tag can be selected in the Tag Browser each time. First reported in version 11.00.00.

In this release, multiple tags can be selected in the Tag Browser.

Scrolling the mouse wheel cannot scroll down the spreadsheet in the Tags editor. First reported in version 12.00.00. [Jira 238514]
In this release, scrolling the mouse wheel can scroll down the spreadsheet in the Tags editor.

Using FactoryTalk View SE Application Manager cannot delete an application. First reported in version 11.00.00. [Jira 42511]
In this release, the application can be successfully deleted with FactoryTalk View SE Application Manager.

If FactoryTalk View uses FactoryTalk Linx as the communication server, the Trend object cannot display historical values of SINT tags. First reported in
version 7.00.00. [266629]
In this release, the Trend object shows historical values of SINT tags correctly.

The VBA reference information is not retained in the XML file through the export and import process. First reported in version 11.00.00. [Jira 490048]
In this release, the VBA reference information is retained correctly in the XML file through the export and import process.

If a maintained or momentary push button is pressed, it will inadvertently trigger the VBA code associated with the change event of Numeric Input,
Numeric Display, String Input or String Display objects on the same display even though each object is connected to different tags. First reported in
version 11.00.00. [Jira 666730]
In this release, the VBA code is not inadvertently executed when pressing a maintained or momentary push button.

Known Anomalies
This release has the following known anomalies.

Display client

FactoryTalk View SE Client does not respond
When Alarm and Event Log Viewer is opened from the FactoryTalk View SE Client but cannot get events from the SQL Server database, the
FactoryTalk View SE Client does not respond for a few minutes. First reported in version 7.00.00. [344892]
To resolve this problem, on the toolbar of Alarm and Event Log Viewer, click Stop to stop reading events from the database.

When login from ThinManager directly to FactoryTalk View SE Client, some warnings about the password do not show on FactoryTalk View SE Client.
For example, the password expires or will expire, or the password needs to be changed. First reported in version 10.00.00. [367304]
To resolve the issue, check messages in FactoryTalk Diagnostics and follow the instructions accordingly.

When multiple SE clients are launched simultaneously on the same computer, the startup of the SE clients may not respond at the Loading Command
Server stage. First reported in version 8.10.00. [368162]
To resolve this issue, create a Windows batch file and add a Pause 5 command between the launch of each SE client file. This will allow the start of
each SE client to be offset from each other.

FactoryTalk View SE Application Manager

Timeout may occur when you perform backup or restore operation through an unstable or slow network. First reported in version 8.10.00. [355276]
To resolve this issue, open the Registry Editor of the computer that runs the tool, update the registry key CompressTimeout to a value larger than
1200 and try again. The key is in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Rockwell Software\RSView Enterprise\DistributeApplicationManager\Settings.

Cannot overwrite all components in the HMI server
During the restore operation, when overwriting components of a running HMI server, some components of the server may still exist in the HMI folder
after you restart the computer. This happens when the names of these components do not exist in the archived HMI file. First reported in version
8.10.00. [354220]

Find and Replace

East Asian languages do not show correctly
There is a possibility that some object properties that are configured in character sets for East Asian languages such as Chinese or Japanese, will
display a question mark in the result list when you use the Find and Replace, Cross Reference or Undo feature. First reported in version 7.00.00.

To resolve this problem, go to Control Panel -> Regional and Language Options, and select the appropriate language to match the language
 desired.

Graphic displays

Applying color animations to an object group as well as to the individual objects in the group causes unexpected behaviors. First reported in version
8.00.00. [346758]
To set up color animations for an object group, either apply the color animations to the group, or to the individual objects in the group.

Graphic objects

Cannot register or unregister Microsoft ActiveX® Control objects
When registering or unregistering an ActiveX Control object in FactoryTalk View Studio with User Account Control (UAC) enabled on the operating
system, an error message shows. First reported in version 8.00.00. [346124]
To avoid this problem, before registering or unregistering an ActiveX Control object, do one of the following:
Turn off UAC and restart the computer
Run FactoryTalk View Studio as administrator

Cannot save animation expression changes
If the expression setting for the animation property of the base object is empty when you change the LinkAnimation property of a reference object to
Link without expressions and change the expression setting for the animation property, the expression setting change cannot be saved. First reported
in version 6.00.00. [272937]
To avoid this issue, fill in a valid value in the expression setting for the animation property of the base object first.

If you copy and paste a PNG image into an application, the image might appear blurred. First reported in version 7.00.00. [337726]
To avoid this issue, import the image into the Image folder first, and then insert the image into the application from the Image folder.

The caption of Signature button does not support language switching. [367600]

The reference object of a momentary button shows an incorrect initial state when the display containing the reference object is run on the FactoryTalk
View SE client. First reported in version 11.00.00. [Jira 845437]
After pressing the momentary button, the state returns to normal.

Tag Browser may not respond for a while when selecting a tag. First identified in FactoryTalk View version 10.00.00. [Jira 861955]
To avoid this problem, press Alt+Tab to switch to another window, switch back to Tag Browser, and then select the tag again.

HMI server

VBA execution may pause temporarily while an HMI server is replicating. First reported in version 7.00.00. [361749]

During replication some project information may fail to replicate to secondary servers. First reported in version 8.00.00. [347733]
To resolve this issue, restart these secondary servers and replicate again. If the replication still fails, cancel the redundancy configuration and delete
HMI project from secondary servers, restart secondary servers, and configure the redundancy again.

If you configure NIC speed remotely, to Auto, (rather than to 100 Mb Full), it doubles the amount of time to open the tag editor. First reported in
version 6.10.00. [270579]
To avoid this issue, we recommend that you configure NIC speed to the highest value possible.

HMI project folder does not replicate to secondary HMI Server. This issue can be caused by a couple of situations. One cause could be the size of the
HMI project file being larger than the maximum allowable file transfer size. The other cause could be the replication taking longer than the default time
limit of 20 minutes.
To resolve this issue, change the limit size to an acceptable value or set the limit time to a larger value. For more instructions, see Knowledgebase

Installation

Cannot continue with the installation because of IIS
If you have mapped IP addresses to host names in the C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts file, the invalid mapping could stop IIS from being
installed. The following message is displayed:
IIS is not installed correctly. Install cannot continue.
First reported in version 7.00.00. [338385]
To resolve this issue, update the entries in the hosts file to include the correct IP addresses and host names. Alternatively, place a # symbol in front of
the entries so that they are not used and are not validated as part of the IIS installation.

The Client Install Portal feature cannot be added or installed in the Program Maintenance mode from Control Panel. First reported in version 8.10.00.

To avoid this issue, make sure to select the Client Install Portal check box at the first time if you plan to use this feature.

When upgrading FactoryTalk View version 6.00 or 6.10 to 9.00, the following message may be shown: "The following installed products are dependent
on this installed package and may not function properly if this package is uninstalled:" First identified in FactoryTalk View version 9.00.00. [363810]
To resolve this problem, click Yes in the dialog box and continue with the upgrade.

Operating systems

When running FactoryTalk View SE redundant applications on Windows 10 Professional or Enterprise v1607 operating systems, initiating a network
connectivity break by disabling NIC adaptors in Device Manager can cause application failures requiring a restart of the application. This issue was
introduced in the Windows 10 v1607 feature build. First reported in version 9.00.00. [363223]
To avoid this problem, run the Microsoft Hotfix KB3201845 outlined in https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3201845.
Alternatively, you can run Windows 10 v1703 or other supported operating systems where this issue is not present.

 Slow network communication performance because of IPv6
If IPv6 is not supported or is disabled in your network environment, when you use FactoryTalk View Studio on Windows Server 2012 R2 or Windows
Server 2012, the network communication performance may be slow. First reported in version 8.00.00. [347310]
To resolve this issue, you may need to disable IPv6 on your computer or enable IPv6 in your network environment. Contact your IT department for
details.

System and HMI tags are wireframed
If your system is experiencing HMI tag failures and wireframing, you may have a port conflict. Check the event log for the message: "Unable to
establish connection with Live Data using TCP/IP protocol. Port may be in use by another process." The HMI tag failures
could occur on any operating system due to dynamic port range changes. First reported in version 5.10.00. [264248]
To resolve this, you will need to manually change the port. For additional information on how to do this, see Knowledgebase Document ID: QA7128 -
FactoryTalk View Site Edition: Unable to establish connection with Live Data using TCP/IP protocol.

On Microsoft Surface® tablets, the press and hold gesture may not open a component's menu if the component is a text box. First identified in
FactoryTalk View 9.00.00. [362400]
To work around this problem, use a mouse and right-click the component to open the menu.

ODBC databases

The datalog cannot log data
If a FactoryTalk View SE datalog becomes disconnected from a remote ODBC database and then eventually becomes reconnected, it fails to continue
logging data to the ODBC database. First reported in version 8.20.00. [359289]
To resolve this issue, follow the steps below:
1.  In the datalog configuration, specify a backup ODBC database. If a disconnection occurs to the primary ODBC database, the logging of data will
now continue to the backup ODBC database.
2.  The connection to the primary ODBC database has recovered and you do not have a backup ODBC database configured. To make the datalog
resume logging to the primary ODBC database, issue the command Datalogoff <name of datalog> and then the command Datalogon
<name of datalog>.

Software components

Cannot restore KEPServer
Updating to the new KEPServer Enterprise version, V5.7, may require updating the OPC Data Server configuration after a restoring an application file.
First reported in version 6.10.00. [276028]
To resolve this issue, on the OPC Data Server configuration tab, update the computer name then restart the computer before browsing for the new
Prog ID for KEPServer Enterprise.

Trend objects

Timeout may occur when you try to load large amounts of data points from an ODBC data source such as SQL Server, and the Trend object does not
show the historical data. First reported in version 7.00.00. [343026]
To resolve this issue, open the Registry Editor, update the key DatalogOdbcDbTimeout to a larger value in the following two locations, and try again:
HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Rockwell Software\RSView Enterprise\Data Log
HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-18\Software\Rockwell Software\RSView Enterprise\Data Log

At runtime, the context menu of Trend can not be shown on the screen when trying to trigger by pen or finger. First reported in version 12.00.00. [Jira
42333]
Use a mouse or another pointing device to access the context menu of the Trend.

Unable to change the historian server on a TrendX object for pens in the Model column. First reported in version 10.00.00. [Jira 42006]
There is no workaround for this anomaly. However, TrendPro supports the change of the historian server from the configuration page.

TrendPro objects

One hour datalog data is not displayed on the trend chart
When switching from Daylight Saving Time back to Standard Time, you will see two 1:00 hours on the trend chart of a TrendPro object. If you trend
data from data logs, one hour data is not displayed on the trend chart and seems to be lost. All data actually is in the database and no data is lost.
First reported in version 9.00.00. [363699]
To view the data that is not displayed, add a real-time trace to the chart. For more information, see Knowledgebase Document ID: QA4519 - Trends
and Daylight Saving Time (DST).

Considerations for application server host computers

In a network application, it is possible for a single server computer that meets the recommended requirements to host all of the following components:

One FactoryTalk View SE Server
One FactoryTalk Linx data server (which can also be set up as FactoryTalk Alarms and Events device-based alarm server, or also includes the
secondary data server)
One RSLinx Classic server (or some other OPC data server)
One FactoryTalk Alarms and Events tag-based alarm server
The FactoryTalk Network Directory

If a network application requires multiple HMI servers, data servers, or alarm servers, to distribute the load, it is recommended that you install the necessary
software and run the servers on multiple host computers.

FactoryTalk Diagnostics

FactoryTalk Diagnostics cannot log to a remote database using Microsoft Access. You can only log to a local database using Microsoft Access.

Find and Replace

If an HMI server at the root node of an SE Network distributed application has the same name as the application itself, the Find and Replace feature search
results might include the application name even though you performed the search at the HMI server level.

Floating-point operations

Floating-point numbers may not precisely represent all real numbers. Floating points only has six digits of precision. As a result, expressions based on
floating-point arithmetic operations may not evaluate as expected. This is a side effect of how the CPU represents the floating-point data. For this reason, in
certain cases you may experience loss of precision and get unexpected results of floating-point operations.

KEPServer

If you are using KEPServer Enterprise as an OPC server with FactoryTalk View version 9.00.00 or later and using an HMI tag to connect to a third-party
device, you will not be able to access the tag value. The cause is that the security enhancements in FactoryTalk View version 9.00.00 or later affect the
communications with third-party devices. To access the tag value, additional Distributed Component Object Model (DCOM) configuration is required for
KEPServer Enterprise on the computers.

Pre-installation configuration

Before you install FactoryTalk View SE, there are a number of steps required to set up the installation environment. This will help ensure that the installation
proceeds smoothly and that your new or upgraded FactoryTalk system operates as expected. For detailed information about pre-requisites before
installation, see Chapter 3, Pre-installation configuration of FactoryTalk View Site Edition Installation Guide.

1.  The number of alarm backing tags influences the maximum number of available alarms because they
increase the resource requirements of the alarm server. When using backing tags for status and control, a
good rule of thumb is to multiply the total number of backing tags by the total number of alarms, and ensure
the result is less than 20,000. PlantPAx® users should refer to the PlantPAx Reference Manual PROCES-
RM001 for alarm server sizing guidance for a PlantPAx application.
2.  This number is the sum of both instruction alarms and Logix tag-based alarms across all the controller
shortcuts in each FactoryTalk Linx server.
 3.  The total number of alarms per application includes all FactoryTalk Alarms and Events tag-based and device-
based alarms in the application.
4.  Refer to Knowledgebase Document ID: IN7377 - Amounts of device tags that may have in FactoryTalk View
SE application for detailed information to determine system scalability for the total device tags per
application.
5.  The maximum number of HMI tags that can be created on a single HMI server is 175,000. Extensive use of
HMI tags has a significant performance impact on an HMI server, so Rockwell Automation recommends
minimizing their use, and instead using direct-reference tags as much as possible.

Tag Browser

If you rename an HMI server while you are deploying an application, you may need to restart the computer in order to have the HMI tags show up in the Tag
Browser.

Tools and utilities

In the DeskLock utility, all Windows hot keys are disabled except the Windows Logo + L combination, which still locks the Windows Desktop.
In the Tag Import and Export Wizard, you are recommended to close the running project while importing a tag CSV file containing large amounts of
tags and alarms. Otherwise, you will need to wait a few minutes and the Server Busy Dialog box may pop up.

Trend objects

The Trend objects cannot get the oldest data from FactoryTalk Historian server when you click the Oldest Data button.

TrendPro objects

Clicking on the X-axis or Y-axis takes it into the free layout mode. In this case, anything done to the canvas is how you want it and it does not resize.
The free mode does not persist scale and removes tags from the trend. Avoid using the free mode in the trend.

UAC support

Turning off User Account Control (UAC) is not recommended.

If the VeriSign Universal Root Certification Authority certificate does not exist on the local computer, the certificate is installed while installing Rockwell
Automation software. Use Microsoft Management Console (MMC) to view the certificate in Console Root > Certificates (Local Computer) > Trusted
Root Certification Authorities > Certificates.

Unattended installation

Use command-line parameters to perform an unattended or silent installation of the software.

Command-line parameters

The following table identifies the installation command-line parameters. Command-line parameters are case-insensitive. However, if a specified value
includes a space, be sure to enclose the value in quotation marks (for example, "value with spaces").

Parameter Description

/? Displays the usage options for installation parameters.
Silent Install, install runs in a quiet mode without any user interface.
/Q
This parameter is recommended when deploying the software installation
using an IT tool or script, and don’t expect any error or restart
messages. When using this parameter, check the error codes, and
respond as needed. For example, if the installation returns error code
1641, then the IT tool or script should restart the computer and relaunch
the installation after restart.

This parameter is required if /QS is not specified.
Unattended Install, install runs in a quiet simple mode and shows
/QS progress through the UI, it does not accept any input but still shows error
or restart messages.

When using this parameter, the installation will stop and display a
prompt if there are error or restart messages. For example, if an
immediate restart is required to complete the install, a restart message
will be displayed to confirm the restart. Installation resumes
automatically from the point of interruption after restart.

This parameter is required if /Q is not specified.
Acknowledges acceptance of the license terms.
/IAcceptAllLicenseTerms
This parameter is required for /Q or /QS parameters.
Automatically restarts the computer after the installation is complete.
/AutoRestart Used when a restart is required to complete the installation.
 This parameter is optional. If this parameter is not used, silent install (/Q)
will return either error code 1641 or 3010 if a restart is required, and
unattended install (/QS) will result in a confirmation prompt that must be
agreed to before the installation is completed.
Records the installation options chosen to a recording file.
/Record
This parameter is optional.
Plays back a recording file to specify the installation options.
/Playback
This parameter is optional.
Runs a repair operation on the installed products.
/Repair
This parameter is optional.

/Uninstall Uninstalls the product.
Specifies which language will be displayed during install process.
/SetupLanguage="value"
The value must be the one of the following:
ENU
CHS
DEU
ESP
FRA
ITA
JPN
KOR
PTB

This parameter is optional. If this parameter is not used, the default
language is the current user or operating system user interface
language.
Specifies which sub-products will be installed.

Specifies the language version of the software being installed.
/ProductLanguage="value"
The value must be one of the following:
ENU
CHS
DEU
FRA
JPN

This parameter is optional. If this parameter is not used, the default
language is the same as the setup language.

If the software does not support multiple languages, this parameter is not
available.
Specifies the installation drive.
/InstallDrive="value"
This parameter is optional. If this parameter is not used, the default
install drive is C:.
Specifies that the setup ignores warnings and continues.
/IgnoreWarning
This parameter is optional. If it is not specified, the setup exits when a
warning occurs.
Specifies the serial number of the software being installed. This is used
/SerialNumber="value" to activate the software during installation.

This parameter is optional. If it is not specified the software must be
activated manually after installation if activation is required.

Some software does not require activation. If activation is not required,
this parameter is not available.
Specifies the product key used to get activation keys during installation.
/ProductKey="value"
This parameter is optional. If it is not specified, the software must be
activated manually after installation if activation is required.

Some software does not require activation. If activation is not required,
this parameter is not available.
Specifies the version of the software to activate which corresponds to the
/Version="value" product version associated with the SerialNumber and ProductKey.

This parameter is optional. If it is not specified the installer will use the
most recent product version available.

Some software does not require activation. If activation is not required
this parameter is not available.
 Specifies the FactoryTalk network directory if you are using a distributed
/DirectoryServer="value" system.

This parameter is optional. If it is not specified, the software will use its
current computer as the FactoryTalk Directory server.

The value must be the host name of the FactoryTalk Directory server.
Error codes

The following table identifies the error codes that can be returned by an installation.

Error Code Value Description

ERROR_SUCCESS 0 The installation completed successfully.

ERROR_INVALID_PARAMETER 87 One of the parameters was invalid.

ERROR_INSTALL_USEREXIT 1602 The installation was cancelled by the user.

ERROR_INSTALL_FAILURE 1603 A fatal error occurred during installation.

ERROR_BAD_CONFIGURATION 1610 The configuration data for this product is corrupt. Contact

your support personnel.

ERROR_SUCCESS_REBOOT_INITIATED 1641 The installer has initiated a restart. After restart installation

will continue.

ERROR_SUCCESS_REBOOT_REQUIRED3010 A restart is required to complete the installation. After restart
the product is successfully installed.

ERROR_REBOOT_PENDING 3012 Restart pending. Restart computer for installation to

continue.

ERROR_SUCCESS_NOT_APPLICABLE 3013 The installation cannot proceed because the products are

already installed.
