Task 5 - Pages 54-55 (BSA 1C_ANTONETTE JOSH ESCORIAL)

Briefly answer the following:

1. Describe the background of Rizal's ancestry that might have contributed to his life
and education.

Dr. Jose Rizal hardly experienced hardships in life especially in terms of

financial stability because he was born into a wealthy household. He was able to
receive a learning that only a few individuals can afford due to monetary difficulties.
Rizal was pretty much sheltered by his mother, aside from that their family is very
compassionate and devoted to one another. He grew up in a home where nature was
cherished and seen, and most significantly, his mother had already planted seeds of
faith in him. Since the beginning of his existence, Rizal's forebears have been well-
known. It is usual for them to join a prestigious university, and as a result of his
experiences and education, he has the potential to be a more successful man than his
forefathers, let alone make history in our country.

2. Compare the experiences of Rizal as a student in Ateneo Municipal, UST, and in

Madrid.

Looking at Rizal’s achievements and perseverance since he was a kid it is

inevitable for us to assume that he grew up loving the art of studying and with his
eagerness to learn it is safe to say that he has this indefinite hunger for new
experiences and learning's. Ateneo was the first university he entered in which he
obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree to exhibit his love for the arts and language. He
started off behind his friends in class, but because to his commitment to his
academics, he was labeled the King for being the most exceptional individual in just a
month and earned a degree. He subsequently moved to UST to study medicine for his
mother, although he was less involved in Ateneo. At the Ateneo de Madrid, he
roamed and mastered French, English, and German. Rizal was regarded as a brilliant
achiever who, despite the difficulties he experienced, never quit until he completed
what he started.
3. Who were the important persons that influenced Rizal in his intellectual pursuits?

A lot of people created an impact and left a mark on Rizal’s journey as an

intellectual person. One of them are his teachers who had a great input to improved
his schooling, but Leon Monroy was the one who truly taught him and polished his
Fundamental Latin, literacy, and comprehension skills. Rizal's brother, Paciano, also
had a great impact on his scholarly aspirations. Throughout his lifetime, he was the
one who nurtured Rizal, and Rizal looked to him as if he were his parental figure. Last
but not the least was Dona Teodora Alonso, Rizal's mom, was by far the most
prominent character in his educational endeavors of all the people who had been with
him; under her tutelage, Rizal acquired his appreciation for all sorts of artistry and the
stunning scenery that encompassed them.

4.What were Rizal's activities in Dapitan and their impact?

Rizal had a peaceful life in Dapitan, where he practiced medicine, continued to

hone his abilities, and created a school for boys to help with developmental projects.
Rizal's initiatives in Dapitan increased his involvement in his field, enabling him to
reach more people and alleviate the circumstances in Dapitan. Even with these
activities Rizal continued to pursue his medical career as well as his artistic interests
in painting, sculpture, drawing, and literary writing.

5. How would you assess Rizal's objection to the revolution?

Rizal's resistance to the rebellion was obviously driven by a desire to do the

smart work and avoid a bloodbath between both the Spaniards and the Filipinos.
Rizal's true intentions are to enlighten his people so that they might study and grasp
what is happening on, and then to bring the Filipinos together to rescue the territory in
a peaceful and harmonious manner. Not the finest swords or arsenal, but his
knowledge and expertise were Rizal’s strongest weapons. Even though he opposed to
the rebellion still it proceeded and ended in his and our desired outcome.
