A manager needs to understand how an information system works, not just how to use it. If a manager only knows how to use a system without understanding it, they will be unable to properly evaluate the system or solve problems without assistance. A manager must receive training on information systems so they can understand how it works in addition to knowing how to use it.

Assumption5: MANAGERS NEED ONLY TO UNDERSTAND HOW TO USE AN

INFORMATION SYSTEM.

A manager does not have to understand how information system works, only need to know how
to use it. I strongly disagree with this Ackoff’s contention. Without knowing information, a
manager is useless. A manager need to know and completely fathom how everything works. If a
manager only know how to use it, it means managers is not perfect that specific task. Most MIS
designers seek to make their systems as innocuous and unobtrusive as possible to managers. The
manager need to train about MIS so that they can properly know about it, how to use an information
system and evaluating. I think any time may create sort of problem can arise, without understanding this
work he/she waits for someone taking help for completing work. So I think a manager need to
understand how to system works besides know how to use it.
