Fixed partial denture design,

types and its indications

Basic Design of
Bridges: 1- Fixed-fixed
bridge. 2- Fixed-movable
bridge. 3-fixed-removable
bridge. 4- Cantilever
bridge.
5- Spring cantilever
bridge. 6- Compound
bridge. 7- Resin bonded
bridge.
Fixed-movable
bridge.
Cantilever bridge •
FPDs in which only one side of
the pontic is
attached to a retainer . •
However, the long- term
prognosis of the single
cantilever is poor.
• cantilever will induce
lateral forces on the
supporting tissues, which
may be harmful and lead
to tipping, rotation,or
drifting of the abutment.
Spring
cantilever
bridge
Compound bridge
Resin bonded
bridge
Preparation of the abutment teeth:
1-adequate clearance for the retainer.
2-Removal of proximal undercuts
3-ledges and grooves for resistance

Wing Design :
1-leave the margins about 1 mm from the incisal or
occlusal edge and 1mm supragingival as possible.

2-Types of Retainers:
I-perforated(4-6 holes)
II-non perforated

Non perforated is either :

1-Electrolytic etching
2-Macroscopic retention
: a-meshwork
B-water-soluble crystals

Contra-indications:
1-deep bite
2-patient liable to receive
trauma. 3-Bruxism or clenching
patients.
• Resin bonded fixed bridge can be used for
posterior teeth
