I. Read the passage and find out at least ten redundant words then write
them on the answer sheet below. (5*)

Hearing – impaired people cannot hear sounds (completely) well. How do they
(can) ‘hear’ words and talk?

Many hearing – impaired (disabled) people use American Sign Language

(ASL). They talk with (using) their hands. Sometimes two hearing – impaired
people talk to (communicate with) each other. They both use ASL. Sometimes, a
(listener) person listens to someone talking, and then he or she makes hand signs.

There are two (different) kinds of sign language. One kind has a sign for every
(single) letter in the alphabet. The person spells words. This is finger spelling. The
other kind (of sign language) has a sign for whole words. There are about
(approximately) five thousand of these signs. They are signs (to describe) for
verbs, things and ideas. Some of the signs are very (extremely) easy, for example,
eat, milk, and horse. You can see what they mean. Others are (much) more
difficult, for example, star, egg, or week.
People from any country (in the world) can learn ASL. They don’t speak
words. They use signs, so (that’s why) they can understand people from other
countries.
ASL is (nearly) almost like a dance. The whole (full) body talks. American Sign
Language is a beautiful language.

II. Read the passage to answer following questions and write on the
answer sheet below. (5*)

Compact discs (CD's) have revolutionized the music industry with their
surprisingly realistic sound. The six-inch discs look like thin plastic sandwiches
with aluminum in the center. They have digitally recorded material that is read by
laser beams, so the sound has none of the crackling of the vinyl records. CD's are
also virtually indestructible, and they are lighter and smaller than conventional
records (LP's). CD's are becoming more widely available than LP's. They are now
sold in electronics and video stores that haven't formerly carried records or
cassettes. Many record stores are now cutting their prices on LP's to make room for
the new CD's. There has been a phenomenal growth in the sale of CD's. Sales were
up to 150 percent in the first half of 2015 as compared to the first half of 2014.
Although fewer than 8 million CD's were sold in 2013, there were approximately
60 million sold in 2015. It is likely that the sales would have been even higher
were it not for the price. CD's cost nearly twice as much as LP's in the near future;
however, prices should lower as more production facilities open.
