Weekly Home Group Guide

Week of April 3—10

Belong
Welcome
Handout an empty plastic egg to everyone as they come. Use that as a reminder of the upcoming Easter Weekend events
at our church. Be sure to introduce any guests present & invite everyone to make them feel welcome.

Opening Prayer
Welcome everyone & highlight anything significant to the group before you pray (birthday, anniversary, special prayer
need, etc.) Ask someone who is comfortable to pray for us & ask for God’s blessings on your HG tonight.

Become (Spiritual Disciplines, Care) // Pick at least one from each category to use in leading your group
Suggestions for Family Time
A) Luke 19:11-27 teaches us that one day we will stand before Jesus & answer to Him for the way we use the stuff God has
given us. What are some simple ways that you can use God’s gifts for His purposes? (ex. “Give food to the needy.)
B) Is it possible to give more to God than he has given to you? If your answer is “No,” how does this effect your attitude
about giving to others or giving to God’s work?
C) Get in groups & memorize 2 Corinthians 8:7, which relates to our Competency Giving Away My Money. Regroup & read
2 Corinthians 8:1-7 together. How does a person get better & better at soccer? Basketball? Volleyball? How can we get
better & better in generous giving?

Suggestions for Kids Time

A) Fill several envelopes with Monopoly© money of differing totals (label A, B, C, etc). Take one, count the money out
loud & then get the kids to identify how much should be tithed (10% of the total). Provide a piece of paper & a pencil (with
an eraser!) to the kids. Have them pass around the remaining envelopes to determine the total dollar amount along with
the amount to be tithed. Have a “sweet” treat for those who get most or all the tithing amounts right.
B) Many of you have a “piggy” bank to help you save money. How might using a “tithing” bank help you keep track of the
money that you are going to give back to God? How often should this one be emptied?

Suggestions for Adult Time

A) Read Matthew 6:19-21. List examples of “earthly” (temporal) treasures. Make another list of “heavenly” (eternal) treas-
ures. Knowing that the items on the first list will be destroyed & the other will prove eternal, why do you think so many
believers struggle with a preoccupation/pursuit of earthly rather than heavenly treasure?
B) There is a long-standing, yet unbiblical teaching known as “prosperity theology” (i.e. — “give to get”). What‘s wrong
with this way of thinking? (Teacher notes: we give because we’ve already received! God does tend to bless us when we
obey, but he’s not obligated to do so. Our walk with God is a relationship, not a formula! Consider the life of Paul (Acts
20:22-24 & Philippians 4:11-13) with that of prosperity theology.
C) Last week Pastor David mentioned the word “fear” in relation to “giving.” Has this been true in your faith walk?

Suggestions for Prayer Time

A) James 1:17 begins, “Every good & perfect gift is from above.” Focus your prayer time on the good & perfect gifts that
God has given us.
B) Pray that each of us would stand before Jesus one day & hear the words, “Well done, good & faithful servant.”

Check the bulletin or www.pantego.org for the stuff going on in our church. Consider the ideas below, as well!
Community Calendar
HG Action Points: The Goal for Plastic Candy-filled Easter Eggs is 20,000. How will your HG participate in this effort?
Church Calendar
HG Action Points: PBC has reserved the worship center from 11:30-1:00pm on Good Friday as a special time for commun-
ion & personal reflection on our Savior as God’s Suffering Servant. Consider this as an alternative to your normal routine.
