GESTURE CONTROL AUTOMATION

INTRODUCTION

• INTRODUCTION TO CURRENT
SYSTEM

→Home Automation is the new trend in a consumer market.

There are many home automation systems with different
features and facilities.

→All the home automation systems are used to control home

appliances through a remote control. The remote control
can be a stationed unit or a wireless remote.

→The remote used for controlling appliances usually have

keys or touch-based sensors. In this project, a home
automation system is designed which can be controlled by
gestures.

VPMP POLYTECHNIC 7
GESTURE CONTROL AUTOMATION

• INTRODUCTION TO OUR PROJECT

→ Basic purpose of developing new system of hand gesture
remote control is to remove the need of the hand held
remote. Gesture is an action of arms or any other body
part which are made to emphasize speech. Basically,
Gestures include motion of the hands and face.

→ Gestures can obtain from any bodily motion but

commonly obtain from the face or hand. The basic
purpose of this system is to control different electronic
devices with the help of hand movement.

→ Thus, this system will work as a remote control for

operating different electronic devices present in a daily
use. We are using gestures of hand as a remote to
controlled home appliances like Tube light, fan etc.
instead of using manually.

→ Now days, it is impossible for living in a home without

interacting with the home appliances. Due to evolution of
technology in the field of gesture recognition for hand
gesture or human computer interaction many Techniques
are done.

WORKING OF PROJECT
→ When the finger is bend then flex sensor is bend so, the
resistance is change. Then the data will go in nodemcu.

→ The data is send to the firebase through the internet. Then

the data is change in firebase.

→ Device which are connected with nodemcu can perform

the operation and the query is perform using another
nodemcu.

GESTURE CONTROL AUTOMATION

OBJECTIVES
→ The main purpose for developing this project is to
provide the Automation for the handicapped people
using Gesture control.
→ So that they can control the home appliances
independently without any help of others.

VPMP POLYTECHNIC 11
GESTURE CONTROL AUTOMATION

DRAWBACKS AND PROBLEMS

→ Make people lazy and effortless

→ Internet must require.

→ Sensors are costly.

→ Hard to maintain.

→ Must learn gesture

VPMP POLYTECHNIC 12
GESTURE CONTROL AUTOMATION

USER BENEFITS
→This project contains a lot of advance modules such as Gesture
control and also can control voice based.

→To help DEAF, DUMB humans to control the home appliances

independently without any help of others.

→Physically Handicapped people also control the home

appliances using voice control.

→You can control your home lights, fan, etc.… control from any
were in world using the android app.

→This features make life more comfortable for humans.

REQUIREMENTS

• FRONT-END REQUIREMENTS

1. Arduino NodeMCU

→NODE MCU is MICROCONTROLER.

→NODE MCU module has integrated ESP8266 Wi-Fi chip.
→It’s MEMORY(RAM) is 128KB.
→It can store data up to 4MB.
→To give POWER supply using the USB cable .
→There are 22 PINS all work as GPIO (GENERAL PURPOSE
INPUT/OUTPUT) pins.
→RX, TX, SD2, SD3 PINS are not mostly used as GPIO’S pins
because they are used for other internal process.

2. Flex Sensor

➢ Flex sensor are usually available in two size

1. One in 2.2 INCH
2. Another in 4.5 INCH
➢ PINS
PIN 1: Usually connected to POSITIVE OF Power Source.
PIN 2: Usually connected to GROUND.
➢ Flex sensor’s operating voltage is +5V.
➢ It can also operate in low voltages.
➢ It can bend up to 1 Million times.
➢ Flat resistance of flex sensor is 25KΩ.
➢ Bend resistance range vary from the 45KΩ to 125KΩ.

3. Relay Module

A relay is an electrically operated switch that can be turned on

or off, letting the current go through or not, and can be
controlled with low voltages, like the 5V provided by the
Arduino pins.

VPMP POLYTECHNIC 16
GESTURE CONTROL AUTOMATION

Backend requirements
4. Firebase (cloud server)

→The Firebase Realtime Database is a cloud-hosted database.

Data is stored as JSON and synchronized in real-time to every
connected client.
→When you build cross-platform apps with our iOS, Android, and
JavaScript SDKs, all of your clients share one Realtime
Database instance and automatically receive updates with the
newest data.
→The Firebase Realtime Database lets you build rich,
collaborative applications by allowing secure access to the
database directly from client-side code.
→Data is persisted locally, and even while offline, real time events
continue to fire, giving the end user a responsive experience.
→When the device regains connection, the Realtime Database
synchronizes the local data changes with the remote updates that
occurred while the client was offline, merging any conflicts
automatically.

GESTURE CONTROL AUTOMATION

FUTURE EXPANSION
→We will implement the website which is directly connected to
the firebase which can be use anywhere at anytime.

→We will provide more Gesture about each and everything that
can be automated in home.

→We can solve the issue of the main drawback by implementing

the project at low cost.

→We can implement the voice recognition before accessing the

devices for more security.

CONCLUSION
→The goal of this project is to design a useful and fully functional
real-world product that efficiently translates the movement of
the fingers for the home appliances.

→Our motivation is to help differently able people to control the

electronic appliances more easily.

→The gesture control automation system also teaches people to

learn the different gestures and it uses a glove to recognize the
hand positions and gives the outputs to controls the electronic
devices like fan, Tube light , Bulbs , AC etc.
