About the EagleRIP

The EagleRIP is the new generation of Founder’s Raster Image Processor based on
Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 and Windows 2000. The Eagle RIP is able to convert
PostScript and PDF documents generated by page layout programs to
high-resolution images and then drive external devices such as platesetters,
imagesetters, proofers and laser printers to image on paper, film or other material.
Hardware RIPs and software RIP s are both common Rips. Normally hardware RIPs
are built in imaging device such as platesetters, imagesetters, proofers and laser
printers. They can also be stand-alone devices in their own case. Software RIPs
consist of an input section, a PostScript interpreter engine, and interface to an
output device. The RIP engine rasterizes the image data generated and sends it to
the specified external device. This is accomplished through interface cards and its
associated device driver. A software RIP has the following advantages compared to
a hardware RIP :
• Flexibility
• Ability to control the process
• Low upgrade expense

New features of EagleRIP 3.0

Base on EagleRIP 2.3, it was created to add many new features. The primary
features are as follows:
1. Support to Japanese font library (mainstream Japanese font library in the
Japanese market).
2. Full support of PDF in Chinese, Japanese and Korean.
3. Reinforced TIFF driver, with the same nomination form of TIFF as that other
RIP products.
4. More precise calibration curves for linearization.
5. Support to PostScript files without postfix names.
6. Improved processing speed for user defined screen shapes.
7. Improved page layout preview speed and functionality.

1
Founder EagleRIP 3.0 User Guide

8. Improved processing of DCS pictures in gray mode.

9. Improved identification and processing of files with spot colors (Separation or
Composite), with the setting of spot color screening and linearization.
10. Improved screening quality of rotundity, ellipse and diamond shape.
11. Added more flexibility to Hot Folder, i.e. adding options of Hot Folder files to
be chosen by the users and support for sub-directory embedded output
function.
12. Added option of file searching path, allowing users to omit the absolute
searching path of pictures described in PostScript files, i.e. Host name + path.
13. Added support for Hot Folder to automatic output of PS, PDF, EPS and TIFF
files without postfix.
14. Supported multiple NT pipe printing.

NOTE:
1. EagleRIP 3.0 does not support CMS option any longer
2. Users having bought AGS2.0 (used in EagleRIP2.3) must re-apply for AGS
Option Key to Founder Electronic s if they want to upgrade to EagleRIP3.0.
3. EagleRIP 3.0 supports new optional features for CTP application environment
such as EagleFAM screening.
4. EagleRIP 3.0 supports True Type Font, ink control options

Chapter 1

Introduction to the EagleRIP

First of all, let’s take a look at the overall structure and actual workflow of the
Founder EagleRIP.

Fig 1-1

As shown in Fig 1-1, there are two major parts in the EagleRIP. One is the ripping
section which includes input plug-ins & PostScript interpreter. Input plug-ins are
designed to process different data formats other than PostScript. PostScript
interpreters act to interpret and rasterize PostScript data to page separated bitmaps
according to the parameters specified for the job. Another part is the output section.
The named device driver controls the output device to image the page separated
bitmaps.
The processing of each job is controlled by system parameters and job parameters
located in the EagleRIP system templates.
System parameters affect all jobs and job parameter templates affect the specified
job only.
Job parameter templates include parameter settings of input plug-ins, PostScript
interpreter and device driver. Most parameters in the parameter template must be

4
Founder EagleRIP 3.0 User Guide

defined before the processing of the job (the parameters to control the output device
can be adjusted after the page separation bitmaps have been generated by the
PostScript interpreter. For example, number of copies, left margin and top margin
etc).
Furthermore, interpreting PostScript data often requires a font library, so the font
library should be installed before the processing of any job.

1.1 Advantages of the EagleRIP

1.1.1 Flexibility
Via setting different parameters the EagleRIP, as a pure software RIP , can
accommodate multiple user environments and job requirements. By setting specific
device drivers, the EagleRIP can be connected with many output devices. On the
other hand, hardware RIPs do not have this advantage.

1.1.2 Controlling the process

Since it is not a hardware RIP, the EagleRIP image rasterization process and job
outputs are more controllable .

1.1.3 Lower upgrading cost

A software RIP is easier and cheaper to upgrade. In contrast, you usually need to
purchase an entire new RIP to upgrade a hardware RIP.
The EagleRIP is a pure software RIP. All image rasterization processing is
accomplished by the software, so it possesses the advantages mentioned above.
Furthermore, it boasts the following features:
1. Supports Adobe PostScript 3 and Adobe Portable Document Format version
1.2 and 1.3. It passed the international authoritative PostScript 3 testing
program and conforms to the industry standard.
2. High speed, with competitive performance compared to other popular
PostScript RIPs.
3. Supports Mac desktop application software for direct network printing and hot
folders as well as Windows application programs via network printing.
4. Extremely user friendly GUI, typical Windows application style, with context
sensitive online help.

5
Founder EagleRIP 3.0 User Guide

5. Provides powerful batch processing capabilit ies, enabling the system to

perform large volume automatic as well as powerful manual processes.
6. Flexible and efficient page bitmap preview features.
7. Powerful media -saving features, optimizing the page orientation and page
separation arrangement, improve the media usage and output efficiency.
8. Powerful bitmap input and output functions, provide the users with more
flexible system control. Users without imagesetters can also perform page
ripping and generate and approve the page bitmaps. The file can then be
output on many devices that accept screened bitmapped files. Service bureaus
can accept such files.
9. Supports third party input plug-ins and device drivers, increasing openness
and flexibility of the EagleRIP system.
10. Multi-thread software architecture supports parallel processing, able to
increase performance in multiple CPU systems.
11. EagleRIP can run on Windows NT 4.0 and Windows 2000.

2.2.2 Questions about installation and use of

NT
1. NTFS is a file system designed exclusively for Windows NT. It supports
system restoration, able to use super capacity storage media, with various
characteristics of POSIX subsystem. For supporting hot folders for Macintosh
application software, the system requires at least one NTFS partition. For Mac
OS with version number below 7.6, the NTFS partition should not exceed
2GB.
2. Certain computer with SCSI adapter (such as DEC XL Server) would need
CMOS examination and saving configuration after changing RAM
configuration. They even use the additional BIOS disk for examination and
saving system configuration. If the setting steps of CMOS are done but BIOS
disk is not used to dispose, the NT installation may lead to fail!

11
Founder EagleRIP 3.0 User Guide

3. The server service provided by Windows NT Server occupies the system

resource remarkably, which will affect the performances of desktop
application softwares. We strongly recommend you to do an appropriate
setting on the server properties according to the actual situation of the service
required by the network, in order to reach the best performance of the system.
(1) Click “control panel”.
(2) Double click the “network” icon, enter the “network setting”dialog box.
(3) Double click the “server” option under the “installed networking
software” list box to enter the server dialog box.
(4) There are 4 options under the “optimize area”of your server dialog box.
You can select an appropriate option according to your actual networking
requirements.
• Minimum required RAM: allocate RAM for at most 10 network links.
• Balance: Supporting as many as 64 links.
• Maximum document sharing input and output capacity: allocating
maximum RAM for document sharing application programs, most
suitable for large volume network server.
• Maximum network application program input and output capacity:
optimize the server RAM for those distributed application programs (such
as SQL Server), most suitable for large volume network server.
NOTE:
EagleRIP strongly recommends choosing “minimum required RAM”; or else
the EagleRIP system performance will decrease remarkably and even fail to
drive the high-speed output devices.

4. Windows NT virtual memory configuration

EagleRIP recommends you to set your Windows NT virtual RAM twice as the
physical RAM of your machine. For example, if your machine has 256M
RAM, then you are advised to modify your system's virtual RAM to 512M,
follow the steps below:
Open the “control panel”, double click the “system” icon, click the
“performance”option, and then click the “Modify”at virtual RAM.
First, select the drive that contains the virtual RAM pagefile.sys. You are
recommended to select a drive with sufficient space and faster accessing speed.
Then, select the size of your pagefile.sys. Both “initialization size” and
“maximum value”are double the size of the physical RAM. Press “set”then
“OK”, finally press “Close”. The system indicates you to restart your

12
Founder EagleRIP 3.0 User Guide

computer. You can restart after you complete all the system settings. Setting
will take effect after you restart your computer.
5. NetWare networking support
If you are using NetWare networking environment, you can open the “control
panel” upon installing Windows NT. Select “networking”, “add” under
“server” then “NetWare”. Complete NetWare networking support as per
instruction.

2.3 Components Connection

Page Bitmap Import

If you specify a path, the EagleRIP will automatically list all imported page bitmaps
EagleRIP imported before under that path. You can select desired page bitmaps.
Upon confirmation, EagleRIP will load the selected bitmaps into the current
EagleRIP system waiting to print. During the importing process, the system will
signal a sound alert for each page bitmap. After the import is completed, the
Information Window will display the number of page bitmaps imported.

Page Bitmap Export

Fig 3-5
The user may select desired page bitmap, and specify a path (if the path does not
exist the system will inquire whether to create it, see (Fig 3-6).

Fig 3-6
EagleRIP will save the selected page bitmap into the path, later you can load the
page bitmaps into any EagleRIP system through “Page Bitmap Import”for printing.
During the exporting process, the system will signal a sound alert for every bitmap
processed. After the export is completed, the message window will dis play the
number of page bitmaps actual exported.
DESCRIPTION:
“Page Bitmap Import/Export” function provides the user with another flexible,
reliable and highly efficient way to output to different locations. The user can use
his/her pre-produced bitmap which can be a file with no machine specific

25
Founder EagleRIP 3.0 User Guide

information. Then, the bitmaps can be output directly (without re-ripping) in the
output service bureaus which have an EagleRIP system. This will save time and
cost to the user, as well as reduce the possibility of inconsistencies due to different
configuration of RIP parameters and font libraries.
“Page Bitmap Import/Export”function can also be used to backup the page bitmaps
of large jobs. In order to prevent the EagleRIP from automatically deleting these
page bitmaps during the output process, you’d better export the page bitmap into
the backup bitmap directory, and import the page bitmap under that directory when
necessary. When you are sure that you do not need these bitmaps anymore, delete
them from the directory to save disk space.

Exit
Exit EagleRIP. If there are jobs Ripping or printing, when you try to exit the
EagleRIP, the system will indicate the following dialog box (Fig 3-7), press “Yes”
to terminate EagleRIP, press “No” to terminate EagleRIP after all jobs under
ripping or printing have been finished. Press “Cancel”to cancel this operation.

4.1.1 “Information Window” settings

The “Information Window”settings (Fig 4-1) controls the message feedback of the
system, such as whether to alarm for warning or errors found, the frequency and
duration of the signal, the number of messages displayed in the Information
Window and the number of days to save the messages. The options include:

“Update file regularly” check box

EagleRIP will save the contents of the Information Window into a system file
(SysData\InfoWnd.txt). You may decide whether to update the contents of the
document. If you select the box (single click the icon), the system will keep only the
messages of the latest “keep messages in file for <number> days”(to be discussed
later). If not selected (unchecked), the system will save the contents in the
Information Window permanently.

“Keep message in file for <number> days” edit box

If you haven't selected to update regularly, the edit box will be disabled. If you have
selected to update the information files regularly, you may set the messages of the
latest number of days to save here. The information files will only save the contents
of Information Window for the number of days you set, and the messages before
this duration of time will be deleted automatically. The default value is 30 days.

42
Founder EagleRIP 3.0 User Guide

NOTE:
If you set the number of days as 0, the contents of the information win dow will not
be saved. Every time you restart EagleRIP, the Information Window will be empty.

“Alarm when warnings or error appears” check box

To control whether the system sounds an alarm as warning or for errors found while
processing jobs. If this is selected, the system will sound an alert in a set frequency
and duration (to be discussed later). If not selected, no sound alert will be heard.
The default value is “enabled”.

“Warning Frequency” “Warning Duration” “Error

Frequency” and “Error Duration” edit boxes
These 4 options will only be enabled when the “Alarm when warning or error
appear”box is selected. They control the frequency and duration of warning signal,
as well as the frequency and duration of errors found respectively. The system
default values are 1000Hz, 500Hz, 50ms and 500ms respectively.

“Test” button
These two buttons are used to test the warning and error signal you set.

“Erase oldest message when exceeding <number> lines”

edit box
Controls the number of rows in the message window. If the feedback messages
exceed the number of rows set, the Information Window will only display the latest
number of message rows. The system default value is 500 lines.

4.1.2 “Hot Folder” settings

The EagleRIP supports various working modes. Besides being a network printer, it
also supports Hot Folders.

43
Founder EagleRIP 3.0 User Guide

Fig 4-2
REMARKS:
Hot Folders are actually treating the EagleRIP as a print server that completes the
printing job automatically. Its typical steps are briefly as follows: setting the system
parameter for Hot Folder, creating or selecting a user parameter template (refer to
4.2 Parameter Template setting). EagleRIP will perform auto detect in the specified
hot folder path at a regular intervals If files waiting to be processed are found, the
system will start processing those files. As such, you just need to copy the
documents need to be processed into the hot folder with properly set parameter
template. As to the parameter template and its actual operation, please refer to
“4.3.4 Hot Folder parameter”.

“Enable all hot folders” box

Upon selection, the system allows hot folder auto detection, or vice versa.

“Interval to detect job in Hot Folder” edit box

EagleRIP will perform auto detection in all the hot folders at regular intervals to
check if there are any documents waiting to be processed. The edit box allows a
number value between 5 and 3600 to be input. The units are seconds. The system
default value is 10.

44
Founder EagleRIP 3.0 User Guide

“Parameter template folder” edit box

The system parameter default path is “EagleRIP directory”+ “\paramTPL\”. You
can change this location if desired. If you do change this path move all the
pre-defined parameter templates the defined parameter template files under the
original path into the new path. Otherwise the EagleRIP wouldn’t find the template
files. For example, the original path for EagleRIP parameter template is:
“C:\EagleRIP\paramTPL\”,
You have a parameter template subdirectory at:
“C:\EagleRIP\paramTPL\MYTPL001”
Now, you select “D:\REMOTETPL\”as a new parameter template path. You need
to input this path to the system through the “Parameter template folder”edit box. To
enable you continue using your parameter template under the new path, you must
move the original parameter template subdirectory together with its files into the
new working path as follows through a tool such as document administrator or
resource administrator.
“D:\REMOTETPL\MYTPL001”.
After restarting EagleRIP, the new working path can be used. You can input
directly the path you want to set with the edit box, or press “Browse”to select a path.
If the specified path does not exist, the system will inquire whether to create a new
path..
REMARKS:
EagleRIP supports network printing. The users can use network printing for auto
ripping and printing functions.

45
Founder EagleRIP 3.0 User Guide

4.1.3 “Page Bitmap” settings

EagleRIP converts document files into page bitmaps, then the page bitmaps can be
imaged on output device or saved as TIFF files.

Fig 4-3

“Page Bitmap Path” edit box

EagleRIP saves the page bitmap files generated by the ripping process together with
relevant job description files under a subdirectory. The system default value is
“EagleRIP directory”+ “\FrameBMP”. You may change this path if desired. It is
recommended that you place the page bitmap path into the drive with the most free
space, in order to process large documents You can directly input the path you wish
into the edit box, or press “Browse”to select a path. If the specified path does not
exist, the system will inquire whether to create one.
SUGGESTION:
The page bitmap path is strongly recommended to be placed in the drive with the
maximum free space. This lessens the chance of errors due to insufficient disk
space. Assuming the disk space is sufficient, you should try to place this path under
the drive with the fastest read/write speed. This may increase the RIP speed.

46
Founder EagleRIP 3.0 User Guide

4.1.4 “Other” settings

This set (Fig 4-4) includes the parameters for the path and system scale.

Fig 4-4

“Installation Folder” control

The system shows the directory path where EagleRIP has been installed.

“Temporary folder” edit box

The EagleRIP will locate the Window system temporary directory when it installs.
It will use this directory as a temporary area for ripping jobs.
You may directly input the path with the edit box, or press “Browse”to select a path.
If the specified path does not exist, the system will inquire whether to create a new
path.. The EagleRIP will save its internally used temporary file into the temporary
file directory during the process. As such, the available disk space and read/write
speed of the temporary file directory will affect the result and speed of EagleRIP
operation.
NOTE:
If the designated temporary file path does not exist or the available disk space is
insufficient, EagleRIP may report as “ write disk file error,” and will not work
properly.

47
Founder EagleRIP 3.0 User Guide

“Enable to share template upon startup” check box

If you select the option, the next time the EagleRIP starts, the system will
automatically share the parameter templates previously set to share.

“Enable Modifying the Parameter Template When Printing

Files(s)”check box
If you select output jobs manually, you can modify the current parameter template.
If this option is selected, the modification to the current parameter template is
permanent and will affect all later jobs which use the same parameter template. If
not selected, the modification will only affect the current job.

“When free space in the folder of Page Bitmap is less than

(MB)” edit box
Sets the trigger remaining disk space point for the functions below. The system
fault value is 200.

“Auto delete printed files” check box

Upon selection, the system will check the size of the remaining disk space. If the
free disk space is found to be smaller than the set value, the system will
automatically delete the oldest printed jobs until the free space is larger than the
specified value.

“Delete disk files manually” check box

Upon selection, the system will check the size of the remaining disk space. If the
free disk space is found to be smaller than the set value, the system will pause and
request the user to delete the disk files manually.

Units
There are three kinds of units the Eagle RIP support: Millimeters (mm), Inches (inch)
and Points (point). You can select one from the list.

“Bitmap Buffer(MB)” edit box

Every time you preview a page bitmap, the EagleRIP needs a buffer to store the
preview data. The bigger this parameter, the faster preview speed. But you should
be careful to make balance between the preview memory size and the left memory
size for ripping and printing process, otherwise the current ripping or printing
process may be interrupt due to insufficient memory. The system default value is
4MB.

“Abnormal Job Number In Rip Queue” edit box

The jobs you select will first go into the “Waiting to RIP”queue of the Job Monitor.
If the RIP process successfully completes, the system will automatically delete it
from that queue. If the RIP process is interrupted or shows error messages, then it
will stay in the “Waiting to RIP”queue as an abnormal job. This option is used to
control the number of abnormal jobs in the “Waiting to RIP”queue. If the number
of abnormal jobs during the process exceeds the preset value, the earliest job in the
queue will be deleted, while the latest job will enter the queue. The system default
value is 100. The existing abnormal jobs in the queue may help you to check the
reason for the errors. Once you have confirmed and sorted out the problems, you
may directly output from the queue again. You can adjust the setting to suit your
requirements.

“Max Jobs Number in Printed Queue” edit box

The printed jobs enter the printed job queue. The purpose of EagleRIP forming the
queue is to retain the latest printing job sequence to facilitate checking and repeat
printing. This option is used to control the number of jobs in the printed queue. If
the number of printed jobs exceeds; the earliest job in the queue will be deleted,
while the latest job will enter the queue. The system default value is 256.
NOTE:
If the selected number of jobs allowed in the “Printed Job”queue is too large, it may
occupy too much disk space and result in RIP failure. As such, you are advised to
set this parameter at an appropriate value to suit your actual requirements. As to
how to retain the operation in the printed queue and the usage and operation method,
please refer to descriptions under 5.1.4 “Printed Job”queue.

“Max Jobs Number in EagleRIP” edit box

This option is to control the scale of EagleRIP. The number of jobs is equal to the
sum of jobs under “Waiting to RIP”, “Waiting to Print”and “Printed Job”. When
the sum of those three queues exceeds the preset value, the system will not allow
new jobs processor RIP . The memory of the system and free disk space basically
determines the maximum number of jobs allowed by the system. If the memory and
its hard disk space are small, you may modify the setting of this option
appropriately. The system default value is 1000.
NOTE:
If the number of jobs in the EagleRIP system exceeds this maximum number, your
request for job output will fail, and the system will report an error message:

49
Founder EagleRIP 3.0 User Guide

#<Document name>: number of jobs in EagleRIP system exceeds upper limit, this
job cannot enter the “Waiting to RIP”queue!
Once the new job enters the “Waiting to RIP”queue, all the pages selected by the
user will be processed and enter the “Waiting to Print”queue, unless the disk space
is insufficient or due to other errors.

4.2 Parameter template settings

The parameter template is a combination of all parameters of the job waiting to rip
and printed. In the EagleRIP, a parameter template is a set of parameters that
include that of input plug-ins and output devices, screening, calibration, RIP and
job priority. They affect all jobs using this template. For a certain type of job, the
parameters of input plug-ins, output devices, screening, calibration, RIP and job
priority are similar. You may create a series of parameter templates according to
your actual requirements for the use of different type of jobs. This may substantially
improve the efficiency of your work, besides saving time and media
This part will discuss the management and settings of EagleRIP parameter
templates in detail.

4.2.1 Parameter template management

Select the “Parameter Template(s)”menu item from the “Action” menu or click the
“Parameter Template(s)” button on the tool bar to enter the “Parameter
Template(s)”dialog box (Fig 4-5).

Fig 4-5

50
Founder EagleRIP 3.0 User Guide

The dialog box lists all parameter templates. When you run the EagleRIP for the
first time, only the system default parameter templates will be shown in the dialog
box. This is a series of fixed templates designed by the system for the user, meant
for specific devices. In the EagleRIP, you may start from the system default
template to add, delete or modify the user defined parameter templates.

System default template

The parameters of the system default template are changeable but non-savable. This
way, EagleRIP guarantees that when you are confused with the modification of
parameters, it will restore the original system default value, so that the system
maintains a correct template. However, the best solution is to create your own
template on the basis of the system default template instead of modifying the
system default template directly.
You may double click the specified template from the parameter template(s) dialog
box or highlight the template then press “Modify”button to enter the modify dialog
box.

Create user's parameter template

Use the mouse to highlight a template from the parameter template(s) dialog box,
use it as the model for the template you are going to create. Press the “Add”button,
and the system will pop up the “Add”dialog box (Fig 4-6)

Fig 4-6
Input the name of the new template in the “Add”box, then confirm. After that, the
new template is added into the list in the parameter template(s) dialog box. At first,
the setting of the parameter of this template is exactly the same as its model. The
system will allow you to modify various parameters of your new template (refer to
4.2 Parameter template settings, 4.3 Parameters non-relevant to the output device).
TIPS:
The name of your template preferably carries specific meanings (for example,
relevant to parameters such as device name, resolution, color mode and screen

51
Founder EagleRIP 3.0 User Guide

frequency, etc), so that you can retrieve the appropriate parameter templates
quickly when you need them.

Modify user's parameter template

Unlike system default template, the user's parameter template can be modified and
saved. The modification of parameter template is done in the modify dialog box.
You may choose one out of the three methods to enter the modify dialog box:
1. The system will enter the modify dialog box automatically when you create a
new parameter template.
2. Select the template you want to modify from the parameter template(s) dialog
box and press “Modify” or double click the desired template. Refer to 4.2
Parameter template settings and 4.3 Parameters non-relevant to device.
3. Modify the parameter template when you select jobs to output. The result is the
same the last 2 (refer to CHAPTER 5 The operation of EagleRIP).
NOTE:
You can't modify a template if there is a password set for the template and you
don't know its password.

Delete user's parameter template

Select the user's parameter template that you want to delete from the parameter
template(s) dialog box, press “Delete”, enter the correct password (refer to 4.2
Parameter template settings) and the particula r template will be deleted. The system
default template can neither be modified nor deleted permanently. When you
accidentally try to delete the system default template, the system will show a
forbidding sign (Fig 4-7).

Fig 4-7
For example, there is a parameter template “My New Template #1” in your
EagleRIP. If you want to delete this template, you can select this template in the
Parameter Template(s) dialog box, press “Delete” button and the system will
inquire about the password. If the template has a password, you must input the right

52
Founder EagleRIP 3.0 User Guide

password. Press “OK”to confirm to delete. Press “Cancel”and the template will
not delete.
NOTE:
1. You can't delete a template if you don't know its password.
2. If some of your job documents are saved under the path of the template that
you want to delete (this may happen when you use hot folder feature), deleting
this parameter template will delete your job documents as well. As such, it is
recommended that you examine whether there are any valuable data found
under the particular path before you delete a parameter template. Make proper
arrangements before confirming to delete the parameter template.

4.2.2 Parameter template settings

Now we will discuss the actual settings of various parameters in the parameter
template. The parameters in the “Modify”dialog box (Fig 4-8) are divided into 5
portions: name and password, input plug-ins settings, output device settings, output
page range selection and parameters non-relevant to device. The first 4 portions
will be discussed here, while the last portion is more complicated and it will be
elaborated in 4.3 as a separate part.

Fig 4-8

Name and Password

You may arbitrarily modify the template name (only for user's parameter template)
with parameter template edit box. If the template has a password, the system will
require you to input the right password in the “PassWord”dialog box (Fig 4-10).
You can also press the “Password...”button to set or modify the password of the
template. If you setting the passwords for the first time, please input the new
password at the “New PassWord” edit box. Input the same new password
repeatedly at the “Confirm New Password” edit box, press “OK” to complete
setting or modifying password.

Fig 4-9

Fig 4-10
NOTE:
The system default template does not allow you to tamper wit h its name, nor setting
any passwords.

4.2.3 Input plug-ins settings

As EagleRIP software ultimately processes PostScript data, these input plug-ins act
to transfer non-PostScript data to PostScript data.
Select an input plug-in option from the “Device Setup”combo box. Press “Input
Setting”button to open the dialog box for the selected input plug-in setting. Set the
appropriate parameter (refer to CHAPTER 6 Input plug-ins).

NOTE:
Different input plug-in have different parameter settings. The third party
manufacturer or you can also create a dynamic linking library (DLL) for a special
category of document format based on the input plug-ins interface provided by
Founder, to transfer the specific document to PostScript data streams. Add this DLL
into the designated directory. The EagleRIP will check it automatically when it is
started and load it into the EagleRIP system.
You can select this option from the “Device Setup”combo box and prepare this
document for ripping and printing.

4.2.4 Device Setup

You can select an output device from the “Device List”combo box, press “Printer
Setup”button to enter the corresponding setting dialog box.
As the EagleRIP supports various output devices, we are not going to discuss the
parameter setting for every output device one by one. The details of the devices you
want to install are found in the Device Driver Installation and Use Guide.

Print Range selection

This function allows the user to choose the pages that need ripping and printing.
Selecting “All” means all pages of the job need ripping and printing. Selecting
“Pages” means only certain page need ripping and printing. The page number after
“From”and “To”determines the printing range.
NOTE:
“From”and “To”are only effective when you select the “Page”button.
You may also select “Custom”, then input the designated page numbers. The page
number can be an independent numeral or a page number range linked by a series of

55
Founder EagleRIP 3.0 User Guide

characters which are separated by colon “;”. For example, input 4; 5; 6-9; 20 for
printing pages 4; 5; 6; 7; 8; 9; 20.
NOTE:
1. No blank allowed before or after the colon.
2. The EagleRIP will automatically ignore invalid page numbers. Invalid page
number refers to those non-existing page numbers. For example, an operation
contains only 2 pages, and the user selects to rip and print pages 2-5. Actually
EagleRIP will only rip and print page 2, pages 3,4,5 are invalid and will be
ignored.
3. If you want to rip and print all pages starting from a certain page, but you are
not sure of the number of the last page, you may input a larger number such as
100,000 to specify the last page number.
EagleRIP no longer supports using #(*) to represent last page.

4.3 Parameters non-relevant to the output

device

56
Founder EagleRIP 3.0 User Guide

Fig 4-11

Press the “Options”button in the “Modify”dialog box to enter the “Options”dialog

box (Fig 4-11), then you are allowed to set the parameters non-relevant to device
for your job.
There are several groups of parameters in this option dialog box: “Screening”,
“Calibration”, “Rip”, “Hot Folder”, “Register Mark” and “Other” parameters
respectively. The “Screening”group describes the screen parameters, “Calibration”
group describes the calibration curve, “Rip”group describes parameters relevant to
ripping process, and “Register Mark”group describes set mark parameters while
“Other”group describes parameters not belonging to the first six sets.
There are corresponding to the option page bearing the same name (on the top of the
dialog box) in the option dialog box. If you want to modify a group of parameters,
use the mouse to click the corresponding option page to highlight it, and the
relevant parameters will appear in the dialog box for modification. The system
default value displays the Rip parameter option page.

All parameters will be discussed in details as follows.

4.3.1 Screen parameters

Used for setting screen parameters (Fig 4-12).

57
Founder EagleRIP 3.0 User Guide

Fig 4-12
THE PARAMETERS INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING OPTIONS:

“Dot Shape” combo box

Setting the shape of screen dots. There are 9 types of screen dot shapes: Round,
Rhomb, Diamond, Square, Ellipse, Pure Round, Sharp Ellipse, Cross and Founder
FM.
The first 8 dot shapes are conventional Amplitude Modulated screen dot shape.
“Founder FM”is one kind of Frequency Modulated dot shape. When you choose
them, the “FM Cell”edit box is enabled to define the size of the FM screen dot.
Bigger dot size may make the image very rough. Smaller dot size also makes it
difficult for plate making and printing. FM screen dot size requires close attention
to the printing requirements. If the “Founder FM”shape is used large amounts of
dots will require more system memory. If it requires too much, please choose a
lower device resolution and / or smaller dot size.

“Frequency” combo box

The setting is used to set the screen frequency value. EagleRIP provides 9 screen
frequency values. You may choose one of them or input your own.

58
Founder EagleRIP 3.0 User Guide

NOTE:
Normally, the screen frequency should be relevant to the resolution of the device. If
the user changes the resolution of the job in the “Printer Setup”, he/she is advised to
confirm whether the screen frequency parameter in the template is appropriate. The
relationship between the device resolution and the default screen frequency is
shown in table 4-3 for your reference.
RESOLUTION RECOMMENDED SCREEN
FREQUENCY
( 0, 300 ) 65
( 300 , 600 ) 87
( 600 , 1200 ] 100
( 1200 , 2032 ] 133
( 2032 , 2400 ] 150
(2400, 3048 ] 175
( 3048 , +) 200

Table 4-3

The frequencies listed by the EagleRIP have been completely tested and guaranteed.
The other frequency may cause moirépattern when used in color printing.

“Screen Angle” combo box

Setting the screen angle value. Every color plate has a screen angle. There are four
screen angles: 15, 45, 75 and 90 degrees. You may arbitrarily modify every screen
angle value.
NOTE:
The angles listed by EagleRIP have been completely tested and guaranteed, so you
are advised to use the default value provided by the system. The other angles may
cause moirépattern when used in color printing.

“EagleFAM Shape” Combo box

EagleFAM is an optional product for EagleRIP 3.0. You can use this option only
after you have purchased it and input the correct serial number. Refer to the
corresponding user guide for its operation and setting.

“FM Cell (um)” edit box

This option helps you to define the dot size of Founder FM. (Founder’s Frequency
Modulation screening). The unit is micron. Only highlighting when you select
Founder FM dot shape.

59
Founder EagleRIP 3.0 User Guide

“Halftone Levels” edit box

This is used to set the screen levels which is between 256~65536. The bigger the
screen levels, the smoother gradation can be produced.
NOTE:
When you choose gravure screen shape, you need to adjust the calibration curve to
suit for its characteristics. As adjusting the calibration curve may result in the loss
of gravure screen level, it is recommended that you set “Halftone levels”more than
256. For example, 512, 1024 up to 65536.
Under normal conditions the screen frequency, output resolution and screen levels
are all related. Under fixed resolution, the higher the screen frequency, the less the
screen levels. However, EagleRIP has overcome this limitation by using dither
technology, and can output more screen levels when the screen frequency is higher.

“Using Founder precision screening” check box

If selected, you will get the exact screen angle and screen frequency for the screen
parameter. This can produce moiréfree result in color printing. It is recommended
that you should choose this option when outputting color plates. If not selected,
there screen angle and frequency generated may have some deviations from you
specified. The default value is selected.

“Generate more Levels” check box

Under normal condition, screen frequency, output resolution and screen levels are
all related. Under fixed resolution, the higher the screen frequency, the less the
screen levels. However, EagleRIP has overcome this limitation by using dither
technology, and can output more screen levels when the screen frequency is higher.
Check this option, EagleRIP will generate the levels that the user specified. For
example when outputting gradient graphics, you can specify a higher level to get
the smooth gradient result. The default is checked.
NOTE:
EagleAGS is an optional product for Eaglerip3.0. You can choose the accurate
gravure dot shape (, Coin, Hexagonal, and T) shape only after you have purchased
EagleAGS.

60
Founder EagleRIP 3.0 User Guide

“User Defined Screen” check box

Fig 4-13
You can specify the screen parameters in the layout application file such as
PageMaker etc. The following options are used to set the relationship between the
used defined screen parameters and EagleRIP defined screen parameters that are
the setting in the template.

Override frequency in job

Checking this option means the screen frequency defined in the parameter template
is used; If not checked it means the screen frequency specified in the input job file
can take effect.

Override dot shape in job

Checking this option means the screen dot shape defined in the parameter template
is used; If not checking it means the screen dot shape specified in the input job file
can take effect.

Override angles in job

Checking this option means the screen angles defined in the parameter template is
used; If not checked it means the screen angles specified in the input job file can
take effect.

“Spot Color Setup” combo box

Eaglerip3.0 enables the user to add, delete and modify the spot color through “Spot
Color Setup”combo box. If you do not set it here, EagleRIP will not allow you to
output the spot color plate which is contained in the input job file, then the spot
colors in the composite file will be converted to process colors and spot colors in
the separate file will be output as separate plate respectively.

Add Spot Color

Press “Add”button to enter the following dialog box, for example we want to add a
spot color named PANTONE 809 CVC.

61

shape and screen frequency for this spot color are the same as the setting in the
“Screening”option.

Fig 4-15
NOTE:
EagleRIP supports the conversion of spot colors to CMYK, but does not support
outputting partial spot colors.

Modify the spot color

You just can set the screen angle for the added spot color, the screen dot shape and
screen frequency for this spot color are the same as the setting in the “Screening”

option. Choose the spot color that you want to modify, set the angle through the
“Angle”dropdown list.
The “Default Spot”means default angle for spot color plate, you can add the spot
color to specify the angle setting for one of the special spot color.

Delete spot color

Delete the unused spot color. Choose the spot color that you want to delete from the
“Spot Color Name”dropdown list, press “Delete”button to delete it.
NOTE:
“Default Spot”could not be deleted since it is the default spot color.
If the user does not set the angle for the spot color, then EagleRIP will output it
according as the setting of the default spot color.

4.3.2 Calibration parameters

Used for device calibration to ensure a linear output. (Fig 4-16)

Fig 4-16

63
Founder EagleRIP 3.0 User Guide

NOTE:
If output film is not calibrated enough, at first, you should adjust the intensity of
exposure and film developing condition such as temperature and speed. If the result
is still not calibrated enough, you can use the calibration curve to adjust it.

EagleRIP allows different calibration curves for different color plates. As such, you
should first select the name of the color plate, then define the calibration curve for
that color plate. When you use CMYK color mode, you can set the calibration curve
corresponding to cyan plate, magenta plate, yellow plate, and black plate.
“CMYK(RGB)”selection meaning four color plates sharing one calibration curve.
When you use RGB system, you may set the calibration curve corresponding to red
plate, green plate, blue plate, gray plate and all plates. You may define a (0,100%)-
(0,100%) calibration curve. The horizontal value stands for the expected value,
while the vertical value stands for the actual output value. The calibration curve
shown tallies with the changes of values on the right hand side list. There are two
methods of defining the calibration curve of a color plate, first is to use the mouse to
drag the calibration curve directly until the value at every measuring point satisfies
your requirement. Another method is to modify the value in the list directly.
You can specify every measured value for every wanted value listed to the right.
The Eagle RIP can calculate correct calibration curves based on the differences
between the wanted value and the measured value. For example, create a calibration
bar, ranging from 0 to 100%, increase by 5%, output on film, and use a
densitometer to measure dot percent on the output film. For example, if the measure
result to 75% area is 78%, you can directly input the 78 in the 75% edit box.
Press “Reset”button to set the calibration curve of current color plate to a linear
curve.
If you select the “Load”button, the system will load a calibration curve file of your
choosing.
If you select the “Save” button, the system will save the currently defined
calibration curve to a file.
If you check on “Use curve directly”, you will directly use the calibration curve
keyed in by the user, without RIP calculation. For example, if you want 75% area to
output as 68%, you can input 68 at 75% edit box. Then check on the “Use curve
directly”. This function can be used when you output gravure screen dots, you can
directly input the calibration value according to its characteristic s.
NOTE:
The password for the parameter template can prevent others from modifying the
parameters for this templa te. However the calibration curve is not password
protected.

64
Founder EagleRIP 3.0 User Guide

If you select the “Test”button, the RIP can generate a test job according to the
current template parameters. The user can output the job and check the calibration
result.
If you set the Color Mode in the Device Setup to Gray, then EagleRIP uses the
calibration curve for Black (Gray);
EagleRIP allows different calibration curves for different color plates. As such, you
should first select the name of the color plate, and then define the calibration curve
for that color plate. When you use the CMYK color mode, you can set the
calibration curve corresponding to cyan plate, magenta plate, yellow plate, and
black plate. “CMYK (RGB)” selection means four color plates sharing one
calibration curve. When you use RGB system, you may set the calibration curve
corresponding to red plate, green plate, blue plate, gray plate and all plates.
“Default Separation”in the Separation means the spot color plate; you can specify
the different calibration curve for every spot color plate in the input job file.

Add the calibration curve for spot color

Press “Add”button to enter the Fig 4-17; input the name of the spot color, for
example PANTONE 809 CVC:

Modify the calibration curve for the spot color

If you are not satisfied with the calibration curve for the added spot color, you can
select this spot color from the “Separation”drop down list, and then set the curve in
the square area or the value edit box.

Delete the calibration curve for the spot color

To delete the unused calibration curve, select the spot color from the “Separation”
drop down list and then press the “Delete”button to delete it.
NOTE:
1. “Default Spot”could not be deleted since it is the default spot color.
2. If the user does not set the calibration curve for the spot color, then the
EagleRIP will output it according as the setting of the default spot color.

How to test and adjust the calibration curve

After you have modified the parameters for the calibration curve, press “Test”
button, EagleRIP can generate a test job according to the current template
parameter. Output this job to film and develop it.

66
Founder EagleRIP 3.0 User Guide

Use a densitometer to measure the density of the solid black, then measure the dot
percentage at every color block and write it down. The density on the solid black
will be from 40~4.2, otherwise, you need to adjust the intensity of exposure and
film developing condition until the density meets the requirement, then do as
below:
You can specify every measured value for every wanted value listed in the right.
The Eagle RIP can calculate the correct calibration curve based on the differences
between wanted value and measured value. For example, create a calibration bar,
ranging from 0 to 100%, increase by 5%, output on film, and use a densitometer to
measure dot percent on the output film. For example, if the measure result to 75%
area is 78%, you can directly input the 78 in the 75% edit box.
If you check on “Direct Curve”, you will directly use the calibration curve keyed in
by the user, without RIP calculation. For example, if you want 75% area to output
as 68%, you can input 68 at 75% edit box. Then check on the “Use curve directly”.
This function can be used when you output gravure screen dots. You can directly
input the calibration value according to its characteristic.
You can save this calibration curve when the adjusted value is almost equal to the
theoretical value.

4.3.3 Rip parameters

Setting a RIP parameter for your job (Fig 4-19).

67
Founder EagleRIP 3.0 User Guide

Fig 4-19
INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING OPTIONS:

“ Font Substitution” check box

If “Font Substitution”item is selected, the EagleRIP will substitute the absent font
with the default system font and output the file, even if the mapping content of the
default font is not set in the “Font Substitution”. The default absent mapping font
for English is Courier.
If this item is not selected, EagleRIP will report an error message when there is no
corresponding font as specified in the job, and adds the absent font into the absent
font mapping list. If the absent font is pointed as a specified font in the absent font
mapping list, EagleRIP will use the substituted font while outputting again.

“Ignore Blank Separation” check box

If selected, RIP does not output any blank separation. If not selected, RIP always
outputs all separations, even if it’s a blank separation. The system default value is
not selected.

68
Founder EagleRIP 3.0 User Guide

“Use Idiom Substitution” check box

PostScript 3 can describe smooth shading by using new smooth shading dictionary
and operators. This can greatly improve the speed of generating smooth shading for
RIP and can also improve the quality of smooth shading. PostScript 3 supports
many types of smooth shading. Using them, you can easily generate colorful
smooth shading graphics. If you select to use Idiom resource, EagleRIP will replace
the old smooth shading description in PS with the new smooth shading description
of PostScript 3 to improve the efficiency.

“Device Calibration” check box

If the “Device Calibration” item is selected, EagleRIP will allow the device
calibration. If the image in the layout application is RGB, but you set the Color
Mode to “CMYK”in EagleRIP, then EagleRIP will use the default parameters to
convert the RGB to CMYK. Vice versa, the default state of this item is selected.

“Stroke Adjust” check box

If the “Stroke Adjust”item is selected, the position and thickness of the table in the
input job file will be very smooth when the file is output at low resolution.

“Support Level 1 Spot Color” check box

If the “Support Level 1 Spot Color”item is selected, EagleRIP3.0 can support the
gradient with spot color in the layout application much better.

“Override OverPrint In Job” check box

If the “Override OverPrint in Job”item is selected, EagleRIP will use the setting in
“Over Print Mode”option instead of the setting in layout application.
If not selected, the EagleRIP will process overprint parameters according to the
definition in input job files.

“Over Print Mode” combo box

When “Override OverPrint In Job” item is selected, the EagleRIP will use the
setting in “Over Print Mode”option.
Over Print: This means that all plates are overprinted. The contents in every plate
is overprinted, the overprinted color may be distorted, but will not leave out the
white edge.
Black Only: Black plate is not overprinted. This means that only the text and
images on the black plate are overprinted. The text and images on other plates are
not overprinted.
No Overprint: This means that no plates are overprinted.

69
Founder EagleRIP 3.0 User Guide

The default value is Black Only.

“Image Quality” combo box

There are three options for controlling the quality of the output image: Proof,
Normal, Fine. As for output proof copy, selecting “ Proof” may result in a poor
quality image, but the speed is fast. You may consider this when you just need to
layout proof. Selecting Fine may produce good quality image, but the speed is
slower. You can select Normal when output proof copy, and select high for ripping
and printing. When selecting fine, the speed is even slower, but the image quality is
better. The system default value is Normal. Refer to the description for screen
grayness gradation.

“Job Time Out (minutes)” edit box

Some jobs take time, while others may fall into a dead looping. These two
situations may result in a long waiting period and lead you nowhere.
This parameter enables you to set an upper time limit, so that when the job handling
time exceeds the limit, EagleRIP will automatically cease the job and indicate it in
the Information Window.
When you set the parameter as 0 minutes, the system will ignore it, which means it
will go on and on unless the job is completed. You may set this value according to
your actual environment (refer to CHAPTER 7 EagleRIP feedback messages and

Fig 4-26
INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING OPTIONS:

“Job Priority” combo box

Used to set job priority. There are 5 classes of job priority: Lowest, Lower, Normal,
Higher or Highest. Under default condition, the job priority class is Normal. When
the priority class of a later job is higher than that of some jobs in the Waiting to RIP
queue, it will be inserted into the front of those jobs and be processed earlier. For
example, there are already two jobs in the “Waiting to RIP”queue: Job1.ps and
Job2.ps respectively. Job1.ps has a Lower priority while Job2.ps has a Lowest
priority. At this time two more jobs arrive: Job3.ps that has the Higher priority. And
Job4.ps which has a Lower priority. Then, the new Waiting to RIP queue will
become Job3.ps, Job1.ps, Job4.ps, and Job2.ps.
NOTE:
Job priority will only be effective when it adds the job into Waiting to RIP queue as
the job enters the EagleRIP system. Jobs with higher priority class will never
interrupt the currently processing job.

restricts the authorization of the operation. We clarify below:
Case 1: The PDF file has no password.
The PDF file could be outputted correctly no matter what password is specified in
the “PDF Password”edit box.
Case 2: The user just set an Open Password in the Acrobat, no Security Password.
If the PDF file is allowed to be printed in the Acrobat, then input the correct Open
Password at the “PDF Password”edit box to output this PDF file.
If the PDF file is not allowed to be printed in Acrobat, then whatever password you
input in the “PDF Password”edit box, the EagleRIP will report an error and cancel
the processing.
Case 3: PDF has Security Password and no Open Password.
If the PDF file is allowed to be printed in Acrobat, then no password needed in the
“PDF Password”edit box.

4.4 Font settings

Word processing is actually the processing of the characters in the font. As text files
are important in most pagination descriptions, font is a vital part in the EagleRIP.
When the PostScript descriptions being processed requires certain font information,
the EagleRIP system must provide it with corresponding font messages, or else the
operation can not be completed successfully. As such, before and during the use of
the EagleRIP , you need to maintain the font according to the actual situation. The
maintenance of font includes adding, deleting, substituting and re-installing, which
will be discussed in detail as follows.

4.4.1 Add Fonts

Adding font means to install new font libraries into the EagleRIP system. Select the
“Add Fonts”option in the “Fonts” menu or single click the button on the tool bar

to “Reset Fonts”and confirm the system's font library directory before adding font,
or else the EagleRIP will use the currently selected directory or system default font
directory. After many times of adding and deleting fonts, it is best to execute font
re-installation.
NOTE:
Do not copy the font file directly into the EagleRIP font directory, or else the
EagleRIP may not be able to process the characters under your font directory
correctly.
After unloaded font library under the default subdirectory of the the EagleRIP fonts
from Macintosh machine, it is necessary to re-install the font library; or else the
EagleRIP would report the font is absent if the font library had been used in your
output jobs.

designated substitution characters for those characters not installed in the system.
Whenever the EagleRIP finds a non-existing font being used, it will search the
substitution font library for that font from the font substitution table. If that
particular substitution font does exist, the EagleRIP will replace the absent font
library with it. If the corresponding substitution font is not found or non-existing,
the EagleRIP will use the system default font to replace it. Select the “Substitute
Fonts”option in the “Fonts” menu or single click the tool bar buttons bearing the
same name to enter the “Font Substitution Table”dialog box (Fig 4-30).

Input plug-ins

The EagleRIP supports variety of file formats. The file you want to print may be a
PostScript file, TIFF file , EPS file and PDF file. No matter what the file types are,
you just need to install an input plug-in preprocessor for this particular file format
into the path specified by the EagleRIP, the system will automatically recognize
this format, change the layout information stream of file into PostScript information
stream by using input plug-in file when printing, then only go through the RIP
process. To increase efficiency during the transfer process, the input plug-ins will
never produce middle PS files. Instead, it transfers the files while submitting them
to the PS interpreter for execution. As the EagleRIP will open the standard of its
input plug-ins, third party font vendor can also develop input plug-ins for your the
EagleRIP, enabling your the EagleRIP to have unlimited power of expansivity and
adaptability.

6.1 Add an input plug-in

The extension name of input plug-in is IPN. If you already have an IPN file, and
expect it to add into the EagleRIP path, follow the steps below:
1. If your EagleRIP is open, close it.
2. Copy the input plug-in files into the PlugIns subdirectory under the path where
the EagleRIP belongs to (such as C:\Program Files\Founder\EagleRIP).
3. Restart the EagleRIP.
That's all you need to do. Once the EagleRIP is started, you can view the input
plug-in name you added in from the parameter template modify dialog box (refer to
4.2 Parameter template settings). On the other hand, you can see the new file type
you just added in from the file type combo box under the output file dialog box
(refer to 5.1 Host interactive operation). Now you may print the new type of file
through the EagleRIP. Normally, a new file type consists of a special parameter
used to control the PS file conversion. You must set these parameters according to
the input plug-ins you installed. The EagleRIP has already developed some
common input plug-ins, which will be discussed below:

127
Founder EagleRIP 3.0 User Guide

6.2 Setting up plug-ins

6.2.1 TIFF input plug-in

TIFF is a normative image file format. The TIFF input plug-in files are called
TIFF2PS.IPN. You can see it in the PlugIn subdirectory under the EagleRIP
working path. It is used to change the TIFF image files from image information into
PS information for output.

MESSAGES
#Standard PostScript syntax error: ioerror_PSERROR
TROUBLE-SHOOTING:
Refer to the descriptions for configurationerror_PSERROR.

136
Founder EagleRIP 3.0 User Guide

Specifically, this error may be due to incomplete output file; incomplete disk file
used, or networks accessing trouble for files on the remote server. All these reasons
can result in the EagleRIP reporting ioerror_PSERROR syntax error.
MESSAGES
#Standard PostScript syntax error: limitcheck_PSERROR.
TROUBLE-SHOOTING:
Refer to the descriptions for configurationerror_PSERROR. Usually happens when
the output job exceeds the RIP process limitations. At this time, the EagleRIP will
report limitcheck syntax error. The common causes for the error and the solutions
are as follows:
Number of elements such as dictionary, string and array exceeds the upper limit
(65535) of the EagleRIP. This error is due to the PostScript description for the
output job itself; User defined screen dot (screen or halftone) measurement exceeds
the upper limit of the EagleRIP. It is recommended that you try to select other
screening parameters from the application software used to produce that PostScript
data stream.
The pattern measurement used in the PostScript description of the output file
exceeds the upper limit of the EagleRIP.
The number of graph item exceeds the upper limit of the EagleRIP when processing
text, picture or images.
The saved picture status number derived from the save and gsave commands
exceeds the upper limit of the EagleRIP.
If the image command results in a limitcheck syntax error, it is possible that the
image measurement exceeds the upper limit of the EagleRIP when processing the
image.
If the path described in the page is more complicated, it is possible that the buffer
area used to save the path exceeds the upper limit of the EagleRIP.
If the BuildChar or BuildGlyph nested layer exceeds the upper limit of the
EagleRIP, contact your EagleRIP system supplier.
If the number of open files of the output file exceeds the upper limit of the EagleRIP,
contact your EagleRIP system supplier.
If the EagleRIP fails to acquire a temporary buffer area during the process, it may
report a limitcheck syntax error. At this time, you ought to check whether your
physical RAM and Windows NT system virtual memory are disposed according to
the requirements of the EagleRIP and Windows NT environments. Sometimes, the
parameter you set in the system parameter setting may be too big that it occupies

137
Founder EagleRIP 3.0 User Guide

more space in the memory buffer area. As such, please refer to the descriptions
stated in teh system parameter setting part to set a reasonable system parameter.
If possible, consider expanding the physical RAM and the virtual memory of your
machine.
If the above errors happen, and the solutions stated in the manual fail to solve the
problem, please contact with your EagleRIP system supplier.
MESSAGES
#Standard PostScript syntax error: timeout_PSERROR
TROUBLE-SHOOTING:
Refer to the descriptions for configurationerror_PSERROR. Specifically, if your
output job is too complicated, and the Rip Job Time Out parameter in the parameter
template for that job is not 0, then you can increase the parameter setting or reset it
as 0.
MESSAGES
#Standard PostScript syntax error: Undefinedfilename_PSERROR
TROUBLE-SHOOTING
Refer to the descriptions for configurationerror_PSERROR. Please check if the
disk file for the error report does exist, if it is confirmed not exist, check for the
reason. If the file is saved under other disk paths or network path, please add the
disk path or network path into the (Rip) image search path of the parameter
template for your job.
MESSAGES

MESSAGES
#The RIP operation of the job is terminated due to external error.
TROUBLE-SHOOTING:
The RIP operation of the job is terminated due to external error (such as insufficient
disk space, the job number allowed by the system exceeds the upper limit of the
EagleRIP, etc). Please check system parameters such as the disk space where you
save page bitmap and the EagleRIP system temporary files, the maximum number
of jobs allowed by the system and the environment disposition. (Refer the
descriptions about system parameter)
REMARKS
If the RIP operation of the job is terminated due to external reasons, usually you can
detect the reason of that external error and its type from the message window. You
can deal with the error according to the error code.

TROUBLE-SHOOTING:
Generally speaking, insufficient resource of memory or the EagleRIP system
disposition error may report this error. Check the EagleRIP environment
disposition (physical memory, virtual memory) to see whether it meet the
requirements stated in the EagleRIP manual. Reinstall the EagleRIP, try your best
not to reside other application programs, and rerun it.
MESSAGES
#Read intermediate file data error
#EagleRIP write temporary file error, please confirm there is enough disk space
under the temporary file path.
#EagleRIP create temporary file error, please confirm there is enough disk space
under the temporary file path.
#EagleRIP seek temporary file error, please confirm there is enough disk space
under the temporary file path.
TROUBLE-SHOOTING:
Please check the read write limit of the disk path where you save your temporary
files under your system parameter and the remaining space under that directory.
Since the EagleRIP will save certain temporary files produced during the process
into that disk path, you need to confirm that the disk path contains the EagleRIP
write-in file jurisdiction, and a sufficient disk space is needed. If the problem
persists, please contact your EagleRIP system supplier.
REMARKS:
If the EagleRIP becomes abnormal, it is possible that some invalid data files are left
out in the temporary file path. When you restart the EagleRIP, it will execute
normally and automatically delete those files. You can also delete those files
manually after you quit the EagleRIP.
MESSAGES
#Start RIP failure.

142
Founder EagleRIP 3.0 User Guide

TROUBLE-SHOOTING
As RIP start failure may affect the whole EagleRIP system functions tremendously,
you need to handle the errors seriously. Usually, the reasons for RIP start failure
will follow the message. Please apply the corresponding error handling system
according to the right error code.
If it is difficult to judge the reason of errors, you are advised to retry after resetting
the system parameter (refer the descriptions on system parameter setting). If the
problem persists, try again after reinstalling the EagleRIP (it is best to install under
a new directory). If the problem still persists, contact your EagleRIP system
supplier.
MESSAGES
#Close RIP failure.
TROUBLE-SHOOTING
It is possible that the internal status of the EagleRIP is damaged during the output
process of a job, resulting in its close failure. You can try restarting the EagleRIP. If
the EagleRIP fails to start normally or job output becomes abnormal, you may need
to reinstall the EagleRIP (recommended to install under a new directory). If the
problem persists, contact your EagleRIP system supplier.
MESSAGES
#Page measurement of job too small, fail to output properly.
TROUBLE-SHOOTING
If the width or height of the job page is zero or a negative number, RIP will ignore
this job. Check the application software used to generate this job for parameters
such as the setting of job page etc. If the problem persists, please contact your
EagleRIP system supplier.
MESSAGES
#For user screening parameter setting that is not supported by the system, please
prohibit the user screening parameter in the parameter template.
TROUBLE-SHOOTING
In the course of processing the PostScript description of the job, NT RIP comes
across user screening parameter setting which it does not support (in general, the
screen type for every separation and the screening frequency parameter must tally),
you can try select a proper screening parameter combination from the application
program used to generate the job or prohibit the use of user define screening
parameter in the RIP parameter of the EagleRIP parameter template.

error, just like both the above situations.
MESSAGES
#A fatal error occurs during the job handling process. You are required to restart the
EagleRIP before outputting the next job.
TROUBLE-SHOOTING
This message informs the user that a fatal error occurs during the current job
handling process. You need to restart the EagleRIP so that the next job will RIP
properly. If the problem persists after restarting, you may need to reset the system
parameter or even reinstall the EagleRIP. If the problem still persists, contact your
EagleRIP system supplier.
MESSAGES
#The job is terminated due to insufficient font library.
TROUBLE-SHOOTING:
The job is terminated because the job output uses a font library that never exists in
the EagleRIP system and the “Ignore Absent Font and Image File”parameter is not
selected in the job parameter template. You may install the absent font library or
map the absent font library in the font library substitution table onto one that is
already installed in the system to solve the problem of absent font library. You can
also select the “ignore absent font library”parameter in the parameter template to
ignore the absent font and characters.
REMARKS
If you select to ignore user define font, at the absent font library, the EagleRIP will
automatically select an alternative font for output. In this case, the absent character
will be seen as a black block.
MESSAGES
#Fatal error, non-recognizable font type<number>.

Founder EagleRIP 3.0 User Guide

TROUBLE-SHOOTING:
The EagleRIP encounters non-recognizable font types during the RIP process.
Please contact your EagleRIP system supplier.
MESSAGES
#The job is terminated due to absent character.
TROUBLE-SHOOTING:
The job is terminated because the job uses a character that does not exist in the
EagleRIP system and the “Ignore Absent Fonts”check box is unchecked in the job
parameter template. You may use the user defined font software to create a user
defined character to replace the absent one (refer to the instructions for user defined
software and the instructions for adding the user defined font library into the
EagleRIP system) to solve the problem of absent font library. You can also select
the “Ignore Absent Font”parameter in the parameter template to bypass the absent
font and characters checking.
REMARKS
If you select the “Ignore Absent Font and Image File” parameter, the absent
character will be seen as a black block during output.
MESSAGES
#CID font library<font library name> loading failure.
INSTRUCTION
The EagleRIP failed to locate the font library described in the Information Window.
Please verify the font library you want to install. Refer to the instructions on adding
font library and reset font library.
ADDITIONAL REMARKS
If the message window displays a message that is not described above, and it is
neither a warning message nor an error message, it is possibly resulted from the
PostScript description of the user output file, and it is absolutely normal.
If the Information Window displays a message that is not described above, and it is
either a warning or an error message, please contact your EagleRIP system supplier.
If the EagleRIP system unexpectedly breaks down during the process of Ripping a
job, please delete the *.rip files under the \%EagleRIP Folder%\FrameBmp\
directory, and restart the EagleRIP .
