COMPARING AND CONTRASTING PHOTOS OR PICTURES

1- DESCRIBE
What you can see in the photo.
What is happening. Ex: on the right/ left, at the top/bottom, in the middle, behind,
etc
What are they doing. *(Present continuous)
What are they wearing?
What’s the weather like?
Are they inside or outside?
How do they look? Use adjectives: happy/sad/tired/bored/etc
How does the photo make you feel?
Would you like to be there? Why? Why not?
2- COMPARE AND CONTRAST
Compare: What vocabulary do we use?
Similarities: all, both, some, most…
…and, also, as well, too
Ex: in both pictures…
Both pictures depict…
In this one… and in the other one…
Neither of them…
Contrast: differences you can see
…but/ however/whereas/while/ on the other hand…/ Although…
Ex: In the first picture…whereas the other picture…
On the one hand…on the other hand…
Compare and contrast example:

3- SPECULATE
Speculate about the situation. What language do we use?

Ex: They seem to be very happy. Their team must be winning.

4- REACT
Give your reaction. What language can you use?
I’d love/ hate to do that!
It looks great/ dangerous/awful!
It makes me want to try/ go there…
It wouldn’t suit me.
