GAUGE:
14 dc + 10 rows = 4 in. (10 cm). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the
gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials
specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you less stitches and rows to make a 4
in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a
larger size hook or needles.
STITCH EXPLANATION:
dc2tog (dc 2 sts together) Yarn over, insert hook into st and draw up a loop, yarn over and draw
through 2 loops. Yarn over, insert hook into next st and draw up a loop. Yarn over, draw through 2
loops, yarn over and draw through all loops on hook - 1 st decreased.

First Half
Note: Handle is worked in rows, rather than in rnds.
Row 35 (RS): Ch 3, do not turn, dc2tog, dc in next 29 sts, dc2tog, dc in next st; leave remaining sts unworked - 33
dc at the end of this row.
Rows 36-47 (Dec): Ch 3, turn, dc2tog, dc in each st across to last 3 sts, dc2tog, dc in next st - 9 sts when all dec
rows have been completed.
Rows 48-58: Ch 3, turn, dc in each st across.
Fasten off.
Second Half
Skip 10 unworked sts along Tote following First Half of Handle, join yarn with sl st in next st. Rep Rows 35-58 of First
Half. Do not fasten off. From WS, sc ends of handles together. Fasten off.
FINISHING
Edging
From RS, join A with sl st on one edge of handle. Ch 1, work sc evenly spaced around edge, join with sl st in first st.
Fasten off.
Rep edging around opposite edge of handle.
Weave in ends.
