DIARY ENTRY:

Purpose:
- A diary is created and maintained by an individual to record his/her personal
thoughts, feelings, and events that have a significance in their lives.
- Is a safe place where people can be honest about thoughts and opinions, for the
eyes of the owners and no one else.

Layout:
- Date, day, time: It includes this information to have as a memory, to know exactly
when something happened. It is included usually at the top left corner
- Title: It is sometimes included, and helps to understand what the content is going to
be about. Also subtitles may appear
- Content: It includes information about emotions, an event, or any experience that
happened. It is informal and it includes whatever the person wants to.
- Signature: It is optional to include the signature, but it can be there to show who
wrote it.

Characteristics of the text type:


It should include:
● Day, date and time of the entry
● A descriptive heading of the entry
● Detailed comprehensive body of the diary entry
● Written in first person
● Informal
● Signature of the writer

Could be classified as personal writing:


● Uses a personal voice
● Establishes a relationship/intimacy/empathy between the writer and the reader.
● Usually employs first person; subjective; informal, familiar style/register; often
includes emotive language.
● Emphasises ideas, opinions, feelings and impressions, rather than factual, objective
information.
● May use the act of writing to help the author understand and unravel his/her own
feelings or ideas.
● May, in certain contexts, use contracted language.
