COLOR THEORY NOTES


OBJECTIVE:
Students will review and learn the Art Element color theory.

REVIEW:
~The color wheel has 12 colors ~There are Themes and Schemes
~Primary colors - 3 of them - they come from nature ~Tint - Add White to the color - use heavy pressure
Red, Yellow, Blue ~Shade - Add Black to the color - use light pressure
~Secondary colors-3 of them-mix 2 primaries together
Red+Blue=Violet Red+Yellow=Orange Blue+Yellow=Green

Tone–Add Grey to your Hue
Monochromatic–1 Hue, +tint, +shade, +tone
Analogous–Colors that next to each other
on the color wheel
**Warm Colors–6 total **Cool Colors-6 total
Red-Violet, Red, Red-Orange, Yellow-Green, Green, Blue-Green,
Orange, Yellow-Orange, Yellow Blue, Blue-Violet, Violet
**Complementary Colors-Colors that are opposite of each other on the color wheel. Such as Red & Green
**Split-Complementary Colors-Use a main Hue and 2 colors placed symmetrically next to the complement color
**Triad or Triadic-3 colors per Triad. The colors are evenly spaced from each other. There are 4 Triads on the color
wheel.
