TECHNICAL DATA SL304

PRIMCO

Introduction

This is one of a series of prepregs developed for applications requiring both good mechanical properties and
low heat and smoke emission. These prepregs have qualified for aircraft interior components such as overhead
lockers and galley panels. This prepreg based upon S2 glass offers the capability of increased mechanical
performance or reduced weight for minimal extra cost.

Composition

This prepreg is based on a 2 x 2 twill S2 Glass fabric and is impregnated with resin mix 283 to a nominal 46%
resin content. The construction of the fabric is as follows:

Style 2 x 2 Twill
Weight 163 gsm Nominal

The resin used is a proprietary, modified phenol formaldehyde resin having good adhesion to honeycomb
when cured as recommended. The prepreg has medium tack, but this could be changed to suit the customer
and application.

Cure Schedule

The recommended cure schedule is as follows:

Lay up the laminate and apply a vacuum of at least 630 mm Hg.

Place in autoclave and apply a pressure of 3 to 4 Bar.
Heat up at a rate of 2 - 5°C per minute to 130°C
Maintain at 130 ± 5°C for 75 to 90 minutes. (90’ @ 125° or 75’ @ 135°C)
Cool at a rate not exceeding 10°C per minute.
Release pressure.

Alternatively the laminate may be press cured using cycles similar to the above.
